IMHO with Jane Wyman in poor health it was inevitable that something dark and sinister was going to happen to Angela, in season 9. The most macabre of all the seasons really was a whirlwind, one which wouldn’t let Angela go to Greece, under any circumstances. The woman who ruled her wine business through whatever means was temporarily silenced by evil newcomer Charley St. James and so FALCON CREST wasn’t the same again, at least until towards the end.
It is night and Angela is alone in the mansion, reading a book, while in bed. The phone rings twice. She answers it but there is no one there. The lights flicker. She then takes a pistol from the drawer. Someone is coming up the stairs. It is Charley St James. Angela’s bedroom door slowly opens, (a scene from season 9, 1989 – ‘90):
Charley: “Did you notice how the lights flickered, on and off, off and on?”
Angela takes the pistol, from under the bed clothes and points it at him, saying, “I won’t hesitate to shoot. I want you out of this house, this very moment.”
Charley: “I can’t do that! I can’t leave you alone, in this great big dark empty house. Can’t you see how I’m attracted to you?”
Angela: “You’re a sick man!”
Charley: “Oh don’t shoot mother.”
Angela fires seven shots repeatedly and Charley repeatedly pretends to be injured. He eventually falls to the floor and shakes the bullets in his hand.
Charley then chants: “Gimme a 7, gimme a 7, gimme a lucky 7, for uncle Charley.”
He throws the bullets onto Angela’s bed and says, “It’s a winner!”
Angela then throws the pistol to the other side of the room. She picks up the phone, says, “Hello” and then tries the same again.
Charley picks up a pillow. Angela looks terrified. He takes the phone away from her and then the pillow goes onto her face.
Angela fights vigorously to push it off but Charley puts increasing pressure on, as we can see from the shadow. Angela lies motionless.
