What if there was a remake

I’ve never posted on this part of the board before so this is a first. I also have never really watched dallas or or any of the other big 4. One day I will.
I did start the dynasty remake but never finished it.
So I was thinking I know the 2012 version was a sequel series. What if they did a remake in the vein of the dynasty remake.
How would that work, would it be as intriguing. Who could you see playing the key characters.
Any thoughts?

Never really watched Dallas? :(

Although I kind of enjoyed the reboot Dallas, I wouldn't want a remake now.
The cast, writers etc are what made Dallas so iconic and wonderful.

I know there are many great actors and writers today, but for me there could never be another Dallas and it's something you just can't replicate. If it was too different, it wouldn't be Dallas so for me a remake just wouldn't work and I wouldn't ever want it.

hello there @rlr718 - As an original Dallas fan since Day 1, 1978 and an addict since jan 12th 1980 I can only say .............

Oh please NO! TNT was awful and proof that Dallas was an 80s show and belongs on the 80s. It was perfect then, the casting, the actors, the storylines for the 1st 6 years

Also TNT was an insult to the history of Dallas and how they changed storylines, back history and characters like Cliff beyond all recogntion - but what do you expect with an incompetent producer in charge who didnt even watch Dallas 1st time round - she lost the total essence of what Dallas was all about.

It was also proof that Larry, Linda and Patrick needed the rest of their original co stars to make it a success as 99% the newbies mainly sucked as did the plotlines - It was Larrys show and when he died, so did the show as he was the key reason to watch it.

Its a very bad memory and left a bad taste - who gives a stuff about some maid we never heard of in the original, Blandie Anne who has zero chemistry with insufferable Bobby ,(yes my opinion of him changed) and many more who i have thankfully put out of my memory!! and the acting was very mediocre at best

Dallas was, is and always shall be - Barbara, Jim,, Howard, Larry, Linda, Patrick, Victoria, Charlene, Steve, Susan and Ken - They MADE Dallas #1 - They breathed life into their characters and gave them a heart and soul, people I cared about, on screen and off
and thats where I want to leave it - in the 80s, watching a DVD!!

I agree mostly. I would be open to a prequel series, set between the events of the Early Years television movie and the start of the classic series.
There is more than enough material that can be written. And it does not necessarily have to be canon. It could be in the form of writers of a book researching the Ewings and trying to decide whic events happened, and which were speculation

I could just about stand a Prequel to Dallas and didnt mind the Eatrly Years, thought Dale Midkiff in particular was very good, we know enough from original Dallas and back history that something could be written (just keep Crap Ciidre well away from it)

I would have preferred the intended original version of Miss Ellie telling the story to Pam, only VP a had a bad back and BBG was sick

I thought Midkiff was miscast -- not a bad actor, but he hit the wrong note.

Molly Hagen was damn near perfect; I fully believed she could have grown into BBG (just as I'd believe, as @Pamela E suggested, that Omri Katz could have grown into Vincent Kartheiser).

I'm against remakes. Prequels and sequels are fine in concept, as long as the quality is there -- but that's hard to come by. TNT's nuDALLAS had lots of potential (as did the closing years of oldDALLAS) but the flaws and problems were just too pronounced.

I think at this point it’s best to just leave well enough alone. Another remake/reboot would have little chance of succeeding. Dallas was an 80s show and the magic of it was with those original characters and the actors and actresses that portrayed them.

As as far a prequel is concerned, at one point I felt it was actually a good idea but I fear now there just wouldn’t be enough interest overall.

Given that commercial networks are no longer interested in producing drama I agree with you. The best time for a Dallas prequel would have been back in the mid 80's when Dallas was an international hit and mini series were all the rage. Dallas: The Early Years (dumb title) was okay but I would have preferred going further back with the arrival of the first Ewing onto American soil and tying in with the American War of Independence.
