What Was He Going To Say??

Marilee should have marched over and started smacking the hell out of her.
All JR said after he watched Marilee and Jordan leave was "Don't you ever do that to me again, I care enough about you not to shut you up infront of my friends, but I won't have you interfering infront of them in business".

Then he worried about what Jock would think, "My Daddy's going to hit the ceiling when he hears about this".

Massive missed Marilee moment!

She needed that smug looked smacked off her face

He would want to exact his revenge on her, not continue to want her the way he did

outright looking to sabotage Ewing Oil by using her recordings on the Texas Senate witness stand… How could he just brush that aside and still be smitten to the point of wanting to marry her?!

The weakest J.R. was ever made to look in those early years in my opinion. I never could understand how he could still want her after that. It was like the J.R. of the later years was trying to get out somehow but a decade earlier.

Here is a partial list of JR's flings/longer terms

Julie Gray
Garnet McGee
Marilee
Sly
Afton
Katherine Wentworth
Sally Bullock
Serena
Mandy Winger
April Stevens
Cally

There are others to be sure

Literally every single one of them was more attractive than Leslie.
I would even include Gayle Hunnicut's Vanessa, both in Seasons 13-14 and what she looked like when younger

Susan Flannery specialized in these characters with icy personas. And the ice didn’t melt much - even in private moments. So there was never a whole lot of romantic chemistry with her costars.
I've always been curious what her run on DAYS was like for this reason - it seemed like Laura was reasonably popular with viewers with both her Mickey / Bill pairings and I can't really see her being as popular as she was if she just played Laura with her usual icy persona. So I wonder when that shift started for her?

Susan Flannery was compelling performer and an attractive woman. But that white hair. Ugh. She was in her early 40s at the time. And the clothes didn’t help either.
I feel like it was supposed to be “platinum blonde” and therefore elegant and classy, certainly not “elderly”. In conjunction with the super-conservative outfits and the anachronistic vocal inflection (she sounds to me like someone going toe-to-toe with Don Draper and Roger "Mr. Rita Briggs" Sterling in 1961, not JR Ewing in 1981), though, it comes across as “old lady white”.

Leslie Stewart was reptilian and predatory, and one assumes she was supposed to be. Better to bang that then entertain the nethers of Clint Ogden.

I want Leslie, Jeremy Wendell, and Lady Jessica trio-ing up in a closing season as a gang of villians out to destroy the Ewings once and for all, taking orders from Kathrine Wentworth via a crystal ball or ouija board since, in my Ewingverse, Katherine is still dead.

an awful thought experiment: for whom on this show is that statement not true?
Well.......

Leslie wouldn't ever do anything for me I'm afraid, even if I tried really hard.

Now Clint? Well he could have been a lot better I agree and I don't know the actor, but some fans of his seemed surprised he was such a bore on Dallas. His part was boring, but maybe in different circumstances he could have some fire in his belly, so never say never!

Oh God I've just posted that and realised @Jingle Guzzlers said on the show!!! I thought it meant here on this thread.

Oh dear, time to curl up and hibernate in utter shame for a while.

ha, no, I meant “in general, which characters from the entire run of Dallas would (anyone) reallllly not want to 'entertain the nethers' of?" (love that phrase!)

so, a totally appropriate response, not shameful at all - Leslie and Clint were characters on the show, after all!

Don Lockwood seems to inspire the same response in fans - should we blame Sue Ellen? I preferred Don to Clint, but yeah, probably not the actor's best role. I feel like Dusty was the only 'Sue Ellen suitor/affair' who didn't have that effect on the audience to a degree... (Cliff wouldn't count as that wasn't his primary purpose on the show)

Yeah never blame Sue Ellen.

Even if she was intoxicated on occasions she did usually have excellent taste in men, I certainly admire her for that with the possible exception of boring Clint Ogden!

I liked her with Nicholas Pearce and Don Lockwood. She was great with Dusty too, but I'll never forget her dalliance with Peter Richards!

However the best chemistry of all the actors and characters was JR Ewing himself, the late great Larry Hagman. :)

I loved her with them too, Dusty was my favourite early one although at times he was a bit "not so nice".

Loved Nicholas, his story wasn't popular with viewers but I found him fascinating as well as good to look at and they seemed so good together. He also treated her well.

Loved Peter, but again viewers disapproved of him and the storyline. Each time I re-watch it I like it more.

Don not so great, but at least he treated her right.

I think at time or another they all came face to face with JR and none were frightened of him. I don't remember Clint facing JR or needing to, they just saw each other at Lucy's wedding I believe.

Dang, in one season we had Alex Ward, Clint Ogden, and Leslie Stewart.. Bland, bland, and more bland. It's amazing that I still love season 4 because of Jock and the strength of the earlier episodes, but incredibly, the show was starting to slump just several episodes after JR's shooter was revealed. Don't get me wrong, there were good things throughout the whole season, but they really got some things wrong, especially in choosing love interests, or potential or actual affairs for the main characters, other than Dusty, of course.
