Thanks-- just wanted to know, and to clear that up.

BTW, here's the original I was referring to (far different than ours):

Yeah, I definitely don't have that one.

I really need to get "30 ROCK". That would be the most contemporary set I'd have.

30rock-590x332.jpg
My wife binged 30 ROCK a little while ago, and I caught some of it with her. I found the show to be average for its type. I liked the cast and there were some episodes that were very funny, but I didn't find it terribly consistent overall. It isn't a show I'd find myself binging, I don't think.

I need to redo my list one of these days. Mine has changed. Some have come, some have gone.

Network, the DVDs encrypted for UK & Ireland playback devices only. And don't try to bypass it by importing one of those players to mainland Europe...they'll know.

Mine has changed quite a bit over the years-- some shows have stuck around for the long haul, and are integral in my collection, while others were the TV equivalent of one-night stands (just one season, or even just a few episodes, before I ditched 'em).

Oh yikes.

I hadn't even realised it was possible to be that specific. Since most of Europe is all Region 2 coded anyway, I can't understand how they'd know whether or not it's a player in the UK or Ireland.

Not that I doubt what you're saying. It's just that I hadn't realised this was possible until you said (or if you've mentioned it before then I've forgotten it).

What a shame for you, Willie. Before going under, Network released gem after gem of under-the-radar series that I'm sure you'd love. Fortunately I know you've managed to watch some Network-released series (such as The Frighteners) by other means.

Just when I wanted to start watching the series "True Blood" on Netflix, Netflix has decided to remove this series from their streaming service starting September 20. The first four episodes were already very addictive, so now I really wanted to see the rest as well, so I've decided to buy the complete DVD boxset. I hope the rest of the series doesn't disappoint me. ;):)

That's how I felt about The Streets of San Francisco, that 70s ABC hit police procedural w/Malden, Douglas and Hatch-- my sister had gotten me the 1-1 release one time, for Christmas, I believe (first season, first volume), and I enjoyed it entirely, so I got the all-in-one on DVD in 2018, figuring that if I enjoyed those few, I'd be in for the long haul; boy, was that ever true (as I finished it, enjoyed the heck out of it and then some), and I hope, as you said, you have the same enjoyment factor with this that I had with that).

Thanks, and yes i think i will like the rest of the series as well, and good to hear that you enjoyed the series "The Streets of San Francisco" until the end of the series, i remember a few episodes of that "The Streets of San Francisco" when it was aired in the 80's here on the Dutch Tv and it is indeed a good police series.

That's what happened to me with Pretty Little Liars. They only showed a couple of episodes on free-to-air here but it was enough to get me hooked so I ended up following the entirety of the series on DVD.

I also got hooked on Emergency!, but not by seeing any episodes beforehand-- I got the all-in-one on DVD of that NBC 70s medical/action hit in 2022, and started with the second go (1972-73); over time, I got really invested in how these magnificent firefighters and paramedics of that fictional L.A. County fire station, and the doctors and nurse they worked with at Rampart General Hospital, worked together to put out the worst fires, pull off the toughest rescues, and (in the case of the doctors and nurse of Rampart) save most of the lives of those who came into that hospital (I say save most because there were a few who did not make it; even so, their success rate was quite astronomical, IMO).

I eventually saw the rest of the series, then saw the later TV movies of 1978 and '79, which were okay, but not quite up to the series standard; I then saw the pilot that started it all from Jan. 1972, and the short first season that followed (it was good, and showed promise of what the show would eventually become; most shows do/did have to go through those growing pains).

The DVDs did have picture quality that was all over the place (many episodes were good quality, but a lot of them [especially of the fourth and fifth gos] were quite marginal, with much dirt and film splotches, among other anomalies); that didn't deter me, however, because it was the show itself that counted with me (like many of the shows that became selects with me, I had the attitude of 'the play's the thing'-- that I was enjoying it on DVD despite the bad picture quality on a lot of the episodes simply because of what the show was and how much entertainment value it has had for me).

I always find it very unfortunate that you can often only watch a few episodes and have to pay for the rest, but indeed, luckily there are still DVDs to watch the complete series. I actually don't want to buy many series on DVD anymore because I still have so much to see, but sometimes you really want to watch something and have no choice but to buy the DVD box. I love it when people get hooked on shows when they only saw the fiirst couple episodes. ;):)

Do they play okay? I've had some mixed, albeit limited, experiences with unofficial releases.

They play fine for the most part (these are mostly FX reruns of it)-- the site I got this from did state quite clearly in their TOS that there would be some problems w/this and other old shows they purvey there (so in essence, I did assume some risk of having these troubles).

The troubles I've had (fortunately quite limited so far) have included large images blocking the action (on one 1980 episode and one 1985 episode), and one 1983 show coming up short and not finishing with end titles; albeit I assumed these risks, I would still purchase from that place again, because personally, that is the lesser of two evils (better, in other words, and IMO, to assume the risk of defects with bootlegs of an older, yet also IMO, quite good, show, than to purchase functioning DVDs of a more modern show that I'm not sure I would have really enjoyed [Trapper John, M.D., while it does have some romantic, love and relationship content with its medical drama, does not seem to have as much of it as that more modern show Grey's Anatomy, which I've never touched, and never will; also, this was very low-priced at only $62, taxes and shipping included, whereas if I had gotten any of Grey's Anatomy, I would have spent so much more, as much of it as is on DVD [and also, Pernell Roberts was one of the best actors Tinseltown ever had, and was/is far better here in the title role than Katherine Heigl and Ellen Pompeo would have been for me on Grey's Anatomy]).
