To be fair, I think the reason why they didn't cut April, Cally and Liz was to hide what a sausage fest the show had become - I mean, Kimberly Foster is the female character that appeared the most that season at 16 episodes, followed by Barbara Stock at 14. They might as well have added Sly to the opening credits at that point - or just cut it down to Hagman and Duffy.
That's a good point. Liz was at least around till almost the end, wasn't she, and Cally was in the finale. Sheree probably bothers me the most. I guess I should have started a thread of "who shouldn't have been in the opening credits"? Lol.

That last season was just so lost and depressing.

If I remember correctly, April appeared as an imagination or a ghost to Bobby more than once. Perhaps the original plan was that during season 14 April would appear several times while Bobby was looking for Hillary and her "ghost" would eventually stop him from getting revenge on her. Maybe that's why Sheree J. Wilson was kept in the opening credits.

In season 14, compared to the end of season 13, three spots became vacant in the opening credits. Only Barbara Stock got one of the free spots, but not Gayle Hunnicutt. The fact that Gayle Hunnicutt wasn't added in the opening credits suggested that Vanessa's engagement to JR wouldn't last, and in fact it didn't.

When all is said and done I plumped for Audrey Landers. Quite a character and probably the best singer as Afton, out of the big four.

J.R. is back in the land of the living, after the series ended in 1991. It looked as if he was going into the eternal life. However he had just blown a hole in a mirror; when taunted by a fantasy angel turned devil, who told him he should pull the trigger on his daddy's revolver. In the closure of the T.V. movie 'J.R. Returns' the infamous oil baron and his son John Ross are talking outside Southfork, (a scene from 'J.R. Returns' 1996 / 'The Movie Collection' DVD 2011):

Bobby and Sue Ellen have bought Ewing Oil, from Cliff Barnes. It would appear J.R. has a scheme in mind down the road, as he speaks to John Ross.

John Ross: "Dad, I don't understand, why are smiling? You just lost Ewing Oil?"

J.R.: "Son, you don't understand! Ewing Oil is back in Ewing hands. Your uncle Bobby is no longer going to sell Southfork and is back in the oil business. I am the Chairman of the Board of Weststar. Your mother is back at Southfork and you are going to remain in Dallas, to learn the oil business under the best damn oil man there ever was."

John Ross: "Dad, when you say it that way, it appears you'd planned everything to work out this way from the start."

J.R. chuckles: "See son, you are learning already."

The reunion movie is over, until next time.

The real reason why no one was cut from the opening sequence during the run of the final season was financial. It would've cost money to redo the sequence and amend the theme tune. That's why the only omission from the sequence is Barbara Bel Geddes who rejected the four episode deal to return. Howard Keel accepted the deal which is why he's credited right through the season despite only doing four episodes. The same with the other actors who departed during the series run, they were all credited right through to Conundrum. :)

Oh that's an easy one to answer. Priscilla Bowlasoup Presley of course! :p

While we're discussing the lengthened version of the show's theme, in what season of the show was it first used? Was it the 'Donna Reed' season?

In Germany, CBS Records released the longer version of the theme as a single 45. The audio of which is up on YouTube in stereo.

That's the season thirteen theme and it is a variant of the first series theme (not the mini series). :)

John is a gentleman I'm sure he would have gone with a ladies first policy in that respect.
I don't think he would have had the choice.
Knots Landing had an alphabetical policy, too, but I often noticed that they cheated by having some of the bigger stars images appear before the cast list began, and again when their proper turn came.
