Why did Henri Denault want a baby boy?

And I think you know what I'm asking. But I don't think we've ever discussed this uncomfortable point before.

We know a lot more today about the predilections of some men in power. So was cuddly paternal love for a son Henri Denault's only motivation in obtaining a fresh baby from America??

It would explain a lot about Richard's bitterness.

He's Falcon Crest's answer to Cecil Colby.

But did Cecil really request Jeff -- or did Jeff just wind up with his Colorado uncle by default after Philip took off for SE Asia?

Henri Denault apparently wanted Baby Richard in a bad, bad way. And so Jacqueline pimped Angela's son out to a nazi, the wicked bitch.

I believe he persuaded Frankie that it really-really was the best thing for baby Jeff to be raised as a Colby, and therefore it was not a matter of "by default".
If Cecil was the black sheep of the family then I find it hard to believe that he'd have the family's best interest at heart.
They never mentioned that he couldn't have children of his own, and yet he chose baby Jeff.

It would make more sense if Constance already knew about Philip's infertility (and Philip shoulda been her own son anyway) and in order to avoid a possible scandal it would be better to keep baby Jeff in the family. Lord knows where Francesca would take him, and what kind of questions would be asked.
Her bargain with Cecil secures him the Colorado division of Colby Enterprises, and the problem with Frankie is solved.
That could have made Constance the The Colbys' answer to Jacqueline Perrault.
Ironically, a big part of the original The Colbys premised is based on Falcon Crest.

Problem is, these things keep getting re-written -- especially on DYNASTY/THE COLBYS.

They should have done something with the accusation that Cecil "would stab his mother in the back to make a deal!" which enraged him. But they did nothing with it, and probably didn't remember it.

Instead, they retcon Joseph's evocative reference to "that wretchedly unhappy woman" and make it all about Zach's wife. Ugh.

That could have made Constance the The Colbys' answer to Jacqueline Perrault.

Yes, she could have and should have. Constance should have been implicated, after the fact, in the Moldavian massacre -- she wasn't gonna let that skank, Alexis, near the throne.

Ironically, a big part of the original The Colbys premised is based on Falcon Crest.

The parallels between the Carrington/Colby world and the Channing/Giobrti world are really notable. There's very little in common with DALLAS.

Oddly enough, I'm again watching BOYS FROM BRAZIL (1978) right now on this thing called the television machine. And there's mention of nazis wanting babies -- of course, it coming from Dr. Mengele (Gregory Peck), so it's suspect.

The conclusion of the movie is spectacular --- Peck versus Lord Olivier (Gemini Rising versus Gemini Rising -- like SLEUTH (1972).)

Nazis and babies. It can't work out well.

Who knows. Jacqueline was very persuasive, with her men. If she said Denault needed a baby to be a future cartel leader, then that's what happened.

Or she surprised Francesca with Jason and suspected that Jason could be Jeff's father. Ironically, she moved Jeff apart in order to protect Jason's marriage with Sable, unaware of the fact that soon she would regret not having destroyed this marriage instead (as Sable will do anything she can to replace Constance as the mistress of the mansion).
