"Birds Do It, Bees Do It"

WTF. After a thrilling season of heroine Jill, who was brutally murdered by both Gary and Val for only doing her civic duty by the way, we get this. It's really terrible and makes little sense! Pollyanna in a lingerie?! Yeah, that's what viewers want.

I remember the episode title but not what the episode was about. Can you remind me?

It's in season 10, basically the episode right after they figure out that Jill killed herself (which isn't true, but that's another thread) and suddenly there's this random episode that's about SEX, BABY. No really, it's about sex, married couples and Ann Landers. It's horrible and possibly the lowest point so far from what I've seen. It's Dynasty Valez worthy.

Season 1, Episode 2: Community Spirit.
One of my least favorite Knots episodes ever. It was one of the Dallas crossovers and just didn't work. The plotline was ridiculous and implausible.
It came off as silly and makes me cringe any time I watch it.

I'd argue that it was an episode where the show tried to find itself.

In the midst of season 10, well, it had found itself and it wasn't a silly sex education show. What the hell was I watching anyway?

Fair point.
I'm re-watching Season 8 at the moment and while I'm definitely enjoying it much more than 7, the Jean Hackney thing is making me cringe o_O

Not one of my favourite seasons, but season 11 is a blast.
Season 8 is a mixed bag, I loved all the scenes with Anne Matheson.

Oh really? Season 10 was one of my favorites, I was completely gripped...looking forward to re-watching it. Abby was in fine form (as always) and loved all the stuff with her and Paige.
Yes, Anne was definitely the highlight of Season 8.

Yes, good year.

I would look to early Season 13 if we're in search of something episodically KNOTSian that might be bad.

Is this the episode where Karen came in to seduce Mack in his office?

If so, I loved it and I remember little nods to some of the character's sex lives

Yes, and it's absolutely horrible!

But hey, if you want to feel baffled about what's going on then it's for you....

It seems I'm the only one who liked the first half of season 13 better than the second one.

Season 10 wasn't badly written, but it felt like a very loooooooong aftermath (of the Perfect Crime).
And then Abby's scheme with the Marikame guy that went on and on, and the season finale was one of the worst with all that chasing after Paige because she had the key to something I didn't even care for.
Only season 12 was worse.
Everything else was awesome.

From a dramatic standpoint, I assume this episode (Birds Do It) was something of a palate cleanser. After all the heavy drama of the "Jill's death" mystery, it would be difficult to segue directly into other plotlines, so they took something of a break with a change-of-pace, self-contained episode. Going from high-stakes drama to farce/comedy--and using the same characters--is a risky operation, which might be why it's so jarring to see the cast switch gears this way. But the switch, even for just one episode, helps the writers begin a new era of storytelling in the next episode (back to the drama!) without the events of Jill's exit story having to be referred to any more. They did something similar with the farcical/comical "Love In" that was dropped into the period right after Laura announced her departure/impending death.
