I prefer to look at it another way. What happens if society don't frown upon criminal activity? If we don't care that people endanger innocent lives? It's like saying we think "it's okay, we don't care, go ahead".

I don't think we should judge every action. Just the criminal actions. Cheating and lying are seldom criminal offenses. We don't need to publically judge that. Or say mean things. But when it's a very serious crime, it's a whole other thing.

Driving under influence is IMO one of the worst things you can do. Mainly because your selfish reckless behaviour put others lives in jeopardy. If more people spoke out, then maybe fewer people would commit this horrible crime. If your friends and family took a firm stand againt DUIs, maybe you wouldn't get behind the wheels after having a a drink or having taken a drug. If your friend is ok with you driving after a couple of glasses, you just may be convinced you're ok to drive. What others say and think matters.

My parents and I had a big car accident when I was 4 or 5, a drunk driver crashed against us and his car turned around. My mother had her hip broken and my father, an arm. I only had small pieces of glass in one of my cheeks. Was the driver a criminal? Well, he had to pay us a compensation and visited us to apologize. This happened in the early 70s.

First of all, I´m glad we can speak about it with no bad feelings at all, as it should be. What I really meant to say is that in every social media (I only have Facebook and YouTube), people seem to have the attitude of a vulture. Always jumping to speak nonsense when somebody famous does something that may be "condemnable". And politicians must be happy because then people won´t criticize their stupid politics. And yes, I think that most of them live ostracized in their homes, or just take a lot from the people they live with. These are the times of hypocrites. To that, I say...

First, thank goodness you survived! That's so scary. I absolutely think that drunk driver committed a horrible crime. Doesn't mean he's a horrible person in general, but the action of driving drunk was despicable. Criminal in many countries.

Normally, when a non-famous person drives drunk, his or her name won't be printed in media. At least not in many countries where you have to be convicted for even more serious crimes to have your name made public in media. I like that. The whole world don't need to know you cheated with your taxes or robbed a store when you were younger, except those closest to you.

I also don't like when people judge actions that are "only" condemnable or a bit unethical and go after that person pitchfork style on social media. Fine if you think to yourself "what a prick". Writing pure hateful things on social media because a celebrity cheated on their partner is the vulture behaviour, IMO. Cheating isn't a crime and you don't really know the people involved.

I don't know what politics have to do with it, though? Two separate issues. Their actions in their role of representatives for the people are up for grabs. It's a whole other ballgame. As long as the comments by people are relevant to the job the politicians do, at least.

IMHO, politics have everything to do with it, and I´m talking from Spain, but for what I read online and here, politicians everywhere also try to focus people´s attention on more "discussable", trivial matters, because they, well, do what they do no matter what public opinion thinks. And if you think otherwise, good for you. Then you can live more quietly thinking that democracy works and elections too. Oh and I wish I was as fluent in English as you are!

RIP Anne Heche, a very underrated actress who always worth watching, with the probable exception of that awful "Psycho" remake. My condolences to her family and friends.

I agree. Sadly, she'll probably always be remembered first as Ellen DeGeneres's ex who didn't seem to know whether she was gay or not, but she has left behind an excellent body of work.

IMHO, politics have everything to do with it, and I´m talking from Spain, but for what I read online and here, politicians everywhere also try to focus people´s attention on more "discussable", trivial matters, because they, well, do what they do no matter what public opinion thinks. I live in a country where democracy (still) works and elections as well. More than 80% vote in the elections and media are reporting when the politicians do questionable things. And when they do, the politicians can kiss their political career goodbye.

Things aren't perfect, but we can still separate issues. Well, most people can.
