Well, there was already a Jodie Dallas on the 1977 soapcom SOAP, played by Billy Crystal. A gay crossdresser who started dating women exclusively once he took off the skirt, although he continued giving heartfelt speeches about gay rights, usually while his arm was around a girl.

So, yeah, DYNASTY did have a "Dallas," only his name was Steven Carrington.

I like Caress too. Somehow it suited the character perfectly, and I'm sure why... maybe being locked up in prison for 5 years put her in an almost perpetually horny mood?

Although I remember somebody pointed out that her real name, Cassandra, could have been a reference to the seer Cassandra who predicted the fall of Troy - but nobody believed her. Which is fitting with how Caress tried to get her sister's story out to the public, only to be prevented. And later on, she knew Ben and Alexis lied on the stand, but again was prevented from getting that story out. I rather liked that whole Greek myth allusion/motif. It fit in pretty well with the show's fairy tale vibe.

...Haha, though I just now remembered an interview Joan Collins gave about Caress' name: "That's pantyhose!"
