Oh! How about Diamond? Diamond Morrell? After all, Kate O'Mara's opening title had diamonds in it (thus making it the prettiest of all the title cards). And her eyes were like diamonds... and her cheekbones could have cut diamonds... ;D

Hm, what if every female Dynasty character was named after a jewel? Well naturally, there's Krystle, but how about the others...

Alexis - Coral
Fallon -
Amanda - Pearl
Sammy Jo - Amber
Kirby -
Leslie -
Caress - Diamond
Dominique - Emerald
Jackie - Jade
Dana -
Sable - Sapphire
Monica -
Bliss - Amethyst
Constance - Opal
Francesca - Ruby

Obviously, couldn't think of anything suitable for Fallon, Kirby (my heart's still set on Sofie/Sofia, apparently ), Leslie, Dana or Monica.

But here are some jewel/gem alternates for a few of the male characters:

Steven - Sterling
Adam - Jett
Jeff - Jasper
Bart - Flint (and his brother is "Clay" :lmao:)
Ben - Slate

Carat Morell?

Every time I hear that word I think of carrots. XD

And of course there had to be a Silver. But who?

I did consider Silver, but couldn't decide on who. I thought about Constance as a joke about her hair, except that seemed so cheap. And it wouldn't have worked with Fallon or Monica (a Carrington/Colby heiress named after 2nd-place silver? I don't think so!). And it wouldn't have worked for Kirby or Dana either (not unless one of them was named "Goldie", but that... ick. No. Ugh, no. Just no).

Which leaves Leslie... I guess that could work? She's the only one left... well there is Emily Fallmont, but that wouldn't work for her either. So yeah, I guess Leslie's the only one who could possibly work for Silver... in fact, it could fit in with her feeling like a second-class citizen next to cousins Fallon and Amanda.

I like Caress too. Somehow it suited the character perfectly, and I'm sure why... maybe being locked up in prison for 5 years put her in an almost perpetually horny mood?

Although I remember somebody pointed out that her real name, Cassandra, could have been a reference to the seer Cassandra who predicted the fall of Troy - but nobody believed her. Which is fitting with how Caress tried to get her sister's story out to the public, only to be prevented. And later on, she knew Ben and Alexis lied on the stand, but again was prevented from getting that story out. I rather liked that whole Greek myth allusion/motif. It fit in pretty well with the show's fairy tale vibe.

...Haha, though I just now remembered an interview Joan Collins gave about Caress' name: "That's pantyhose!"

I like your point about Cassandra predicting the fall of Troy, especially in light of the multiple disasters Caress unleashed -- at least in terms of my alternative narrative (e.g., she told Blake when and where to catch Alexis with Roger; she took the package of stuff from Agatha Scott and used it to drag Sable into the search for The Collection; she switched Baby Leslies after accidentally killing one of them; she stabbed Roger Grimes to death one night when he stumbled into the Carringtons' kitchen with a bullet in his head and raped her at midnight).

I mean, what a toxic wraith!

However, I don't like the way she arrives in Denver and asks everybody to now call her by her new pen name "Caress". That should have been her nickname all along, and Alexis only refuses to call her that because she (and Joan) didn't like it and preferred "Cassandra/Cassie".

Anyway, I want Constance (too PEYTON PLACE-y) to be named "Rubenstein" (and "Ruby" for short, or at least "Frederica/Freddie"); Emma Samms is "Emerald/Emma" Fallmont; I want King Galen's character conflated with Zachary Powers (and probably played by Ricardo Montalban, too); I guess we have to accept "Prince Michael" because Praed's real name in Michael Prince; @Willie Oleson came up with "Nevada" for Leslie's new name, and I like it; we don't need another Nick, so perhaps we can re-name Richard Lawson as "Brick"; I'd call Jackie Deveraux "Jade" instead; and Steven's Fallmont flame is "Fox" instead of dorky old Bart, and the role re-cast; Lady Ashley Mitchell needs a more chic last name (as it's too-too GWTW).

And I want Jeff re-spelled as "Geoff."

I'm not sure I really need any other changes. Although there are other characters' I'd add, with their new names.

Oh! How about Diamond? Diamond Morrell?

Diamond is the poor, helpless starlet Emily accidentally kills in October 1964, in the guest house adjacent to the Carrington garages. Diamond Cook.

For some reason, I don't mind "Kirby" yet I like the name "Raven" very much.

there was already a Michael on the show, the chauffeur. I'm just not sold on "Konstantine"... then again, considering what the character was like, perhaps he deserves a nickname like "Prince Konnie."
Konstantin doesn't sound bad, or Conrad or maybe Andres, which could have sounded good in conjunction with Amanda.

In addition to Michael Culhane, there was also Adam's Michael Torrance.

I never understood why the show was so excited about the name Michael. Adam's kidnapper/grandmother seemed rather simple-minded, so a name like Charlie or Wayne would have been appropriate instead of Michael.

Constance Colby was first named Victoria Colby. I guess it was changed because Barbara Stanwyck already played a Victoria for television (in "the big valley").

OMG, I didn't know that. I always vote Constance to be renamed Rubenstein "Ruby" Colby as that's Stanwyck's real first name (and figures into the show's jewel-themed ladies' name tradition).

Would it be tacky to use the Dietrich house for the background in Barbara's title card?

Or would a coloured version weaken the Hollywood gothic/Bates Motel-esque quality of the location?

Actually Kate O’Mara said to Terry Wogan on his show she told the producers that Cassandra was a wonderful name because it was the bringer of bad news.

The producers looked at her in stong silence and said ‘We like Caress’.

Also interesting.

Joan refused to call her "Caress" because an English person wouldn't be named that.

I'd rename Jason Colby "Tyrone", it's sort of a combination of tyrant and tycoon and it sounds more classy Hollywood.
Phillip sounds like Arthur Cates' brother so maybe he should be Patrick Colby. Sounds younger and sexier.
No, wait, Patrick doesn't sound good for a supposedly dead person. It needs to be Dynasty special but not too "sound-y" to mention it. Then he could be Jason, Jason sounds smooth and California surfing USA. And that's also very sexy.

And Garrett Boydston sounds like a difficult recipe that you only use because your mother-in-law never stops telling how much she loves it (she doesn't, actually, but that's the point).
John-Boy Garrett sounds much better imo.
