It's odd how it's being dismissed as "an opinion by an anonymous person on the internet" when there are several well-sourced threads on the subject. The data has even appeared in mainstream publications. Much of the mainstream has acknowledged that there was misinformation about masks, vaccine efficacy and side effects, lockdowns, etc. That was downplayed as well-intentioned ignorance before they had all the facts, but the fact remains that the people calling out misinformation were the ones pushing it.

I don't think anybody wanted to get into the weeds about all that in a thread dedicated to a kind, generous person like Dolly Parton. Her financial investment into the vaccine didn't bother me, as I know her concern for the health and well-being of people was genuine. The only thing that bothered me was her involvement in the "global immunization campaign" because she resorted to insults to try to coerce people into getting vaccinated. Calling people cowards seemed to be the go-to line for people pushing the vaccine.

I'm sure she thought she was just doing the right thing to get us through the pandemic, but I thought it was disappointing since she usually stood for personal freedom.

"Several well-sourced threads" that the vaccine didn't save millions of lives? Were they peer reviewed scientific studies or just internet conspiracy theories with no factual basis whatsoever?

As someone who benefitted from having the Moderna vaccine, I will be eternally grateful to Dolly Parton.

The only "conspiracy theories" the media traffics in are those that benefit the establishment. The fact that even they were compelled to address Covid policy mistakes, as well as misinformation from the government and the scientific community, says a lot. The only problem is that many of them brushed all of this off as well-intentioned ignorance.

And yes, many people took the vaccine and were perfectly fine, but that's not a defense against mandates and lockdowns, making false claims about mask and vaccine efficacy, side effects, or that transmission of the virus stops with every vaccinated person. No matter how you look at it, misinformation was spread and the people who didn't want the vaccine were shamed and threatened. Dolly Parton's legacy is one of kindness and generosity, and she certainly cared about the well-being of others, but she seriously missed the mark when she called people "cowards" for refusing an experimental medical procedure. It reveals a lack of nuance and understanding, which was not Dolly's usual style.
