One would assume the remaining six or seven episodes had already been written and pre-production had begun on several of them. They may have to shut down production for a while to retool (maybe even totally rewrite) those final episodes now that the end is near. I guess it would depend on how much intel the producers had received about the chances of renewal. I mean, they would need significant lead time to lease that UFO.

Julie Plec (showrunner of Legacies and Roswell, New Mexico) and the Charmed writers confirmed that they had advance notice that they might not be picked up for another season. Those shows had shorter episode orders, so they've already wrapped production so I assume the Dynasty writers might have written two outcomes - one that ends in a cliffhanger and one that wraps up the show since they knew they were getting a decision before filming the episodes.

Other than Krystle and Alexis on the CW version Karin I’m struggling to think of the other recasts. The OG has it beat I believe with the three Carrington children (four if you count the reunion and Adam). Its too bad they didn’t do a prequel or Joan couldn’t get the reboot off the ground a few years ago with the younger generation of Carringtons and Colbys. The CW version was an abomination and the cancellation is long overdue.
Well they've recast Krystle three times on the new show. That is more recasts for one character than any character on the original Dynasty.

Actually, the first Cristal was revealed to have taken the name from the real Cristal Flores to escape her sordid past. So technically, Cristal has "only" been recast one time.

Alexis has technically been recast two times (first Nicolette Sheridan, then Liz Gillies briefly playing her and then Elaine Hendrix; I guess you could also count the actress who played bandaged Alexis, but she had no lines).

Julie Plec would have form on this, as she had a hand in Kyle XY - I believe she was the showrunner.

She had hoped for a fourth season of that show, but ABC Family (now Freeform) pulled the plug so Season 3 of Kyle XY ended with unresolved storylines. One wonders if it is the same for Legacies and Roswell.

if they end it with a moldavian massacre I will watch this
but they really should have done the whole "show" like the Dallas TNT version

News that should have happened in season 1. The whole show after that was just a train wreck. Recasting crystal twice...Alexis... UGH! Plus the low ratings and how Netflix saved it for 4 extra years because of the deal.

I don't come on these boards anymore. I was lashed out for my creativity as a performer and when I always disagreed that Dynasty was so great. It wasn't perfect. It really didn't deserve passed season 1. Low rated each season. Lowest rated each season. Promised Land was just cancelled and I predicted it. Any nighttime dramas nowadays about family tend to last 1 season and gone. Dynasty was no different. It had the name that was it. This show was too much Fallon centered. Too much. I would have loved to see a continuation of the original, but I guess that's not possible. It just got worse when they kept doing the recasting and it was all about Fallon. I haven't really seen much on this show lately, just that Fallon was shot and in a coma and that Daphne Zuniga was guest starring as an old friend of Blake's. That, at least would be fun to see. Is CW closing soon or getting re-named? I thought I read that somewhere. They also were not fair to the actress who played Monica Colby. She wasn't featured enough and should have been in EVERY episode from season 2 and on and in the intro, which should have done 2 rounds of the chorus. They cut it a few seconds too soon. For those upset, I get it. Just be lucky with Netflix it lasted this long. Now since they know are they writing a finale that will close it up? A finale that ends with a cliffhanger? A finale that they change about the last scenes? Or they film a re-written finale idea...

Moldavian Massacre! That would be a perfect ending if they go all out and kill everyone! But if not, hopefully it ends in a way fans are satisfied.

DIE NASTY hahahah! That would be a fun last episode title, but they'll probably use some line from the show for the last title...maybe a line from the original finale like "What would expect from a stud horse?" or "I'm gonna be sick" or "The pick of her next litter" or "This Is The Last Time You're Ever Gonna Hit me!" or "Shoot Him! Shoot him!" or "I killed Roger Grimes" (at least I think that was a line from that one as well...Hehe!

The first episode of season 2 it was a completely different show.
Getting rid of Celia/Crystal was such a knee jerk dumb reaction.
It should have started out with Crystal in a coma then having temporary amnesia about what went down right before she was shot.
This would have given Alexis a reprieve for a while continuing her scheme to sell CA and even after Crystal recovered she still didn’t remember Hank and Alexis kissing.
After Crystal and Blake reuniting and expecting a child, the miscarriage story should have happened, maybe the trauma jarring her memory, remembering everything and finding out who shot the gun.
Real Adam returning ,The CA deal fell through and Alexis getting kicked out then marrying Jeff and inheriting everything.
Keep Steven introduce Dominique after Jeff dies and she and Monica going after Alexis.
Instead we got scammed , Alexis became a joke, recasted and now selling face cream .they couldn’t have anyone overshadow Liz and yea it became the Fallon Disney show which has been a waste for the past 4 years.

Yes, they ruined it completely come season 2. Season had horrid ratings. But it was at least REAL. It wasn't recasting this one and that one or this one is dead. Oh, here's the real Crystal...I just got confused because I wasn't watching as faithfully. I watched all of season 1. As bad the ratings were, and yes, I think it should have been gone after 13 or the finale of season 1, I followed it. It was the best season because they didn't mess things up. It just didn't have a fanbase. Netflix saved it 4 extra seasons.

SEASON 1 was the most "real". But the fanbase and ratings were NOT there. After 13 episodes it should have ended, or after the season 1 or even 2 finale. What saved it was the Netflix deal. I remember a few of you saying since day 1 it was gonna last the minimum of 4 seasons or until it got enough for Syndication re-airings, et. You all were right. But they spent too much money on this show when the fanbase really wasn't there.

What if covid never happened and they aired the season episodes sooner? Would they still have gotten a 5th season? Didn't they get a double renewal after covid? When season 3 got cut short, season 4 began later and they already knew ahead of time they were getting a 5th.

Netflix’s stock is tanking,
Losing Subscribers, so much competition in streaming markets now, they can’t carry all these badly written filler shows like Dynasty,
The only reason this garbage lasted so long was their deal with Netflix and the popularity of the dynasty name overseas.
Regardless it’s not an excuse for the powers of this show to produce crap.
They amplified all that went wrong with the og, horrible recasting( Elaine Hendrix would have made a decent Jeanette, ana Brenda a believable mrs gunneron )stupid writing ,
and added out of context singing dancing and dumb fantasy plots.
Maybe if they continued and focused on producing a dark adult drama we would still have had the original cast and 5 decent seasons even if viewership was lacking .
They should have at least stayed true to the OG ‘s early seasons and not a vehicle for a mediocre actress/ singer.
I have zero expectations on them ending it any differently
I can’t imagine a network like CW can survive and I hope it doesn’t, they’re the reason this show shifted direction season 2 and all the good we were going to get , Alexis as a rich widow,Monica and Alexis become enemies, Alexis causing Celia’s miscarriage just to name a few, until Sallie just gave up and left.
If you’re guarantied a renewal each year because of Netflix at least produce a well written. Show, true to the name and what people expect from it. What we got starting bits in season two but full on 3-5 was the same premise, Fallons weekly problem
next week fallons weekly problem, week after Fallons……
CW is pure bad trash
At least in the beginning they tried
Only because of Sallie Patrick

They ruined Melrose Place. I could have at least helped them had I been a PA on it back in 2009. All the returns made zero sense! The writers didn’t watch the original. I could have filled them in on what happened. None of the crew watched originally, not even the PA’s. So glad it got canned.

I ran across two excellent recaps of (most of) the series, done right before the second half of S5.

First, the "wordy" version:

Then, the clip-show version:
