# 6.28:

The apartment Cathy has a look at is located at 1220 Manning Avenue, Los Angeles, a condo complex — I think the establishing shot is footage from "Dallas" since both Alan Beam and later Nicholas Pearce called this their home:
View attachment 29904

Does anyone remember if we saw this awful establishing shot for the restaurant where Greg, Laura and Ruth are having dinner somewhere before, maybe also on "Dallas"? It looks vaguely familiar to me:
View attachment 29905
It will be the apartment of Peter Hollister too!!’n
Don’t know for the restaurant but yes it’s awful !!! It looks like the entrance of a funeral home!!!

# 6.30:

The establishing shot of the police station is stock footage of a former police station at 209 SW Oak Street in Portland, OR, which was used on many TV series:
KL-6.30-PortlandOregonPoliceStation.JPG

The scenes at the beach (Gary, Karen, Mack, Ben and later Abby and Val) are from Will Rogers State Beach on Pacific Coast Highway. They were all filmed on / near the parking lot, approximately near lifeguard tower 10:
KL-6.30-WillRogersStateBeach.JPG

You can read the street signs in this scene before Mack and Ben go to the Fishers' home: It's the corner of South Fowler Street and Holloway Avenue in Thousand Oaks, CA 91320:
KL-6.30-Holloway&SFowler,ThousandOaks.JPG

The Fishers' home was quite a tough location to find, but once I realized where the aforementioned corner was, I discovered it pretty fast. The following screen grab is from # 6.22 — you can see the street number of the house next to the door in that scene. The house is located at 3624 Erinlea Avenue, Thousand Oaks, CA 91320. It hasn't changed much; in particular there's still that 1950's wrought iron pillar supporting the roof / canopy there.
KL-6.22-3624ErinleaAvenue,ThousandOaks.JPG

I'm convinced the scenes from # 6.20 of Karen and Laura walking along a suburban street (Karen mails a letter) and of Val and Karen on the bikes — see my above post no. 171 — is from somewhere near the Fishers' place in Thousand Oaks. Too bad the street signs are illegible. But maybe someone wants to help and Google that neighborhood to identify that corner?

I've been curious about it's whereabouts and was looking forward to finding out more about its location.

I'd convinced myself it was somewhere in Granada Hills and from time to time had looked on Google Maps at anywhere that looked like a green space near the cul de sac that might fit the park outlook opposite the Fishers' house. But nope. There's something like 40 miles between them.

It's always interesting how many things fall into place... Once you discover one location from an episode, you can often identify a bunch of them since many of them are usually nearby. We always have to think from a producer's standpoint when we search for new locations.

# 7.01:

The car chase when Harry Fisher drives away is on Erinlea Avenue, and he turns into South Wendy Drive in Thousand Oaks. Today's neighborhood beyond South Wendy Drive in the east (where there used to be the grassy area in the screen grab) is completely new and has been developed after filming.
KL-7.01-SWendyDrive,ThousandOaks.JPG

The mall where Fisher arrives is the usual Knollwood Plaza (nowadays Knollwood Center) on Balboa Boulevard in Granada Hills, CA:

This is the first episode that uses 400 South Hope, the office building named after its street address, in downtown L.A. as the headquarters of Galveston Industries (later the Sumner Group):

In my mind I know the building to the right of "Galveston Industries" (with the rounded design) is the Bonaventure Hotel, but in my heart it's the "It's A Living building," the setting for the 1980s sitcom It's A Living. Every week we saw the waitresses head up to the top of the building where they worked in the restaurant---why did Greg, Abby, Paige, etc. never drop by for lunch???

Still no idea on the exact whereabouts of the Empire Valley construction site.

No idea on the airport (Greg and Coblentz) either.

Karen, Val and the babies: northern part of Palisades Park, Santa Monica, CA:

# 7.04:

Now here's a tough question for the location hunters on this thread:

Approximately nine minutes into the episode, we see a Medical Center (Val, Lilimae and the babies). I've been trying to identify that building for years.
Front-KnotsLanding-07.04-01.jpgFront-KnotsLanding-07.04-02.JPGFront-KnotsLanding-07.04-03.JPGFront-KnotsLanding-07.04-04.JPGFront-KnotsLanding-07.04-05.JPG

I'm not sure if it was a hospital in real life. Cross-referencing various shows, I found establishing shots of it on "Falcon Crest" # 134 <6.04>, "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" and "Simon and Simon" # 4.13.
Contrary to “Knots”, the building was painted white in those shows (probably earlier stock footage). I am not entirely sure if the side or rear entrance is actually at the same location, but I think it is because the prop sign "Community Hospital" was used in all the other shows at both entrances — they apparently created one that they moved during filming the various clips for whatever the original production might have been. Also, the tiles on the façade seem to be identical, so I think it’s one location with different entrances. None of the other shows I mentioned actually filmed at this location, but they simply used the same stock footage that originated elsewhere, but I don’t know the original production. “Knots Landing” is the only show I know so far that actually filmed scenes there.

Here's what we know about where # 7.04 was filmed:
- They used the usual site for Empire Valley (wherever that might be, maybe in the Thousand Oaks area).
- Capitol: Jimmy Stewart Building, MGM Studios.
- Cul-de-sac: Crystalaire Place, Granada Hills, as usual.
- They used the usual mall near the cul-de-sac: Knollwood Plaza (now Knollwood Center) on Balboa in Granada Hills (Lilimae, Val, the babies and Sheila Fisher; Laura and Greg / Knollwood Realty).

No idea where the park and stream were filmed (Sheila watches Val and the babies).

Does anyone have any ideas on the "Medical Center" location?

My previous post continues — I couldn't add enough screen grabs.

Here are the screen captures from "Falcon Crest" (grabs 1 and 2) and "Simon and Simon" (grab 3):
Front-FalconCrest-Estab.jpg
SideOrRear-FalconCrest-Estab.jpg
SideOrRear-Simon&Simon-4.13.jpg

A friend of mine, who is also obsessed with filming locations, thinks it might have been the former West Park Hospital (closed 1989) at 22141 Roscoe Blvd, Canoga Park, CA. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a photo of the location from that time, and the neighborhood has been redeveloped since. Single-family homes are now in its place.

Does anyone happen to know where the "Medical Center" location was located? Or does anyone have photos of the former West Park Hospital by any chance?

More from # 7.04:

The California State Capitol is the actual Capitol in Sacramento, CA (stock footage to establish the scene with Mack):
KL-7.04-CACapitol.JPG

Interiors of the Capitol: The first floor of Lorimar's Producers' Building at MGM Studios (now Sony's Jimmy Stewart Building), dressed with an appropriate prop sign next to the elevators:
KL-7.04-JimmyStewartdBldg-1.JPG

The exteriors of the Capitol building complex (which actually don't match architecturally): Interior courtyard of the Jimmy Stewart Building (previously used as Galveston Industries in # 6.24, see my previous post):

Can't really help with locating it, but I will suggest that the building (at least in post 197) looks as if it's not even being used. The landscaping is not being tended and weeds are creeping up through concrete. Other than the cheesy-looking sign, there are no "normal" things one sees outside a building entrance, such as garbage cans, other signage such as "No Parking/Tow Away Zone" at curbside, benches or curb-cuts for wheelchairs, etc. It's just barren.

If the hospital you mention closed in 1989, it may have closed in phases, with some wings closed earlier as they consolidated services. This may have been an entrance they closed off, allowing film crews to use it since it would not interrupt their operations as much as filming in the "inhabited" section.

Are you really sure it’s the same building ?? The 2 and 3 no doubt. But the first i m not sur . The sidewalk seems not the same and also the roof of the entrance

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's the same building, just different entrances. The one probably the main entrance, the other one a back or side entrance.

# 7.05:

While they previously used the neighboring building to establish Mack's office, it's now the former building at 1801 Avenue of the Stars in Century City, CA (which was demolished; its twin across the street is still standing though). The scene with Mack, Jill and Richard was also shot in front of this building, which was known as Gateway West.

# 7.07:

Mack and Jill are here on the pedestrian bridge over East Regent Street in Inglewood, CA with the Inglewood Courthouse in the background:
KL-7.07-InglewoodCourths.JPG

Not exactly a location I can determine, but I think the footage under which the opening credits for Joshua's show are running (the mountain scenery) was borrowed from "The Waltons", one of Lorimar's other hit series:
