# 7.08:

Does anyone know where they filmed the pool and tennis courts at Lotus Point? The set decorators did a good job, creating the illusion it was still the same location (Salishan in Gleneden Beach, OR) while it actually wasn't by placing a few gray wooden elements on the grounds here and there. It was actually filmed elsewhere in the Greater L.A. area. I know they used Tocaloma Camp at 16000 Mulholland Drive for Lotus Point in season 8, but this episode is someplace else.

By the way, Val and Ben's wedding was filmed at the same location.

The Japanese restaurant where Abby meets Gary is not a restaurant in real life at all. It's the Japanese Garden at Descanso Gardens (1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011). The bridge in the background is the bridge near the Full Moon Tea House:

I don't know where Val and Ben's hotel during their honeymoon is located.

The establishing shot for Abby and Gary's vacation is from the Coronado Hotel in San Diego, CA:
KL-7.09-Coronado,SanDiego.JPG

Cathy leaving Pacific World Cable was filmed at MGM Studios in Culver City, CA. When Sony bought the studios after Lorimar's short ownership, they renovated everything and built many new structures. I can't remember the name or number of this building unfortunately.

The establishing shot for Linda Martin's apartment is from the apartment building at 11755 National Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA. It was also used on "Dallas" as the place where Jamie Ewing's friend lived (where Cliff wanted to get some information about Jamie's death).
KL-7.10-11755National Bl,LA.JPG

Where Gary and Abby offer their condolences was filmed in Hancock Park, L.A. I'm sure I've seen this house before, but can't remember the exact street in this elegant neighborhood:

Lilimae finds Joshua in downtown L.A.: 743 Santee Street, Los Angeles, CA 90041:

The sign with the promo for Cathy's show is mounted on the roof of 305 East 8th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90014. This is also where Joshua falls to his death.

Where Gary almost loses control over his pickup truck: Ranch Road, shortly before Youngworth Road in Culver City, CA:
KL-7.12-Ranch&Youngworth,CulverCity.JPG
Oddly enough (but though Hollywood's magic editing), he's later on Cranks Road (which is actually further up the hill), coming to the intersection Cranks Road and Ranch Road (yes, the exact same street he was on before, but further east):
KL-7.12-Cranks,CulverCity.JPG
To make the editing even crazier, he drives along the very same intersection again as before (Ranch @ Youngworth).
He finally comes to a stop where Ranch Road forks off — the intersection at Tellefson Road and Stubbs Lane.

While they previously used the neighboring building to establish Mack's office, it's now the former building at 1801 Avenue of the Stars in Century City, CA (which was demolished; its twin across the street is still standing though). The scene with Mack, Jill and Richard was also shot in front of this building, which was known as Gateway West.

Well, isn’t this also Colby Co HQ over at Dynasty? Didn’t know that Alexis and Mack were working so close by!

Going back to # 2.16 today since I heard back from my friend Bill Baker, who was an extra on "Knots" and played the college student in foreground in the second screen capture. He told me that they filmed the college scenes at Cal State Dominguez Hills (1000 East Victoria Street, Carson, CA 90747). A lot has been rebuilt on the campus since filming, so I'm not exactly sure which structures they used, but the first screen grab might be from outside the building that now houses the bookstore among other things.

# 7.13:

I forgot to mention in one of yesterday's posts that the restaurant with the Moorish tiles and décor (Mack, Karen, Val and Ben) was the former Moroccan restaurant Dar Maghreb at 1510 North Stanley Avenue in Los Angeles. Note that only the interiors were filmed there. The nightly establishing shot is from elsewhere (probably stock).

# 7.16:

The recap features this great (manipulated) road sign for a freeway exit. I first thought of the 405 (San Diego Freeway) or the 118 (Ronald Reagan Freeway), but it looks too generic to be identified. Or do we have any Los Angelenos here who recognize this specific exit? I think must be somewhere near the major locations or the studio since I they probably shot it on the way to or from location filming.

I addressed the Colbyco issue in my posts no. 124 (http://www.tellytalk.net/threads/filming-locations.5116/page-7#post-285654) and no. 118 (http://www.tellytalk.net/threads/filming-locations.5116/page-6#post-284920).
Yes, Colbyco was portrayed by 1801's sister building across the street at street number 1840 — this one is still standing!
Sorry, I had missed those! I guess this latest shot was even clearer in showing the particular mid-century design of the building. On Dynasty, they always used the same shot with the same person entering the building…lol.

The newspaper building is actually The Los Angeles Times (202 West 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90053). This establishing shot was reused from "Falcon Crest" where it was filmed for # 1.14 as the San Francisco Globe.

Has anyone ever noticed that Olivia's friend, Jennifer, lives at 16950 Seaview Circle?! We oftentimes wondered who lives in the "other" three houses... Now we know for sure that Jennifer lives two houses down from Val's — just at the corner of Seaview Circle and Ocean Vista Way in Knots Landing (a.k.a. Crystalaire Place and McLennan Avenue in Granada Hills)! What definitely gives it away is that, in the close-ups of Jennifer, the camera catches Laura's house in the background!
KL-7.17-16950CrystalairePlace,GranadaHills.JPG

The street near Olivia's school (from her POV when she leaves in her school uniform and starts hitchhiking) is quite near the studio. We see the distinct tower of the Veterans Memorial Building (4117 Overland Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230) in the background:KL-7.17-VeteransMemorialBldg,CulverCity.JPG

Filmed from across, the building behind the "bus stop" (just a prop sign) where Olivia decides she doesn't want to ride in the older guy's car is MGM's Overland Parking Structure (nowadays accessible through Sony's gate 5):

Thanks !! I'm quite sure it's the same location used in a scene of "The Colbys" (at 42 minutes for instance).
Of course, the establishing shot is Brand Library at Glendale.

In an early episode (I think It's the one where Richard took Laura and Jason hostage, but all I recall is that it was a police-involved situation), Karen wants to get Diana out of danger and tells her to "go to the Beckers'" (as in "the Becker house") which many of us speculated was where Jennifer (no last name mentioned) was from. There was also a random kid named Amy (Olivia's age) who was seen in the cul-de-sac a few times in early episodes, whom we also chalked up to being one of the members of the Becker family. It would make sense for Karen to send Diana to the cul-de-sac house the longest distance away from the situation that is still in the circle, and she obviously was friends with the Beckers if she felt confident in sending Diana to their house in that situation.

Eastbrook Academy, Olivia's school, was filmed at Notre Dame Academy Elementary School (2911 Overland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90064). The scene when Karen drops her off in the episode opener was shot on Selby Avenue, approximately across from street numbers 2851 and 2847:

# 7.20:

The road Gary is driving along in his sports car when the episode opens (first shot) is Griffith Park Drive in Griffith Park in L.A. It is a very long double curve located approximately between geographic coordinates 34°08’57.5”N 118°18’20.0”W and 34°08’58.3”N 118°18’ 08.4”W; the latter is just west of the turnoff to Mount Hollywood Drive. It is a heavily filmed section of that road that has been used in hundreds of TV productions and movies because it is very filmable.
KL-7.20-GriffithParkDrive.JPG

The segment of Gary's car ride under Steve and Pat's credits is a stretch of Griffith Park Drive that runs parallel to the Bypass Trail north of the turnoff to Mineral Wells Road. It's approximately between 34°08’58.4”N 118°17’53.3”W and 34°08’50.2”N 118°17’46.0”W. It is also one of Lorimar's favorites and was also used on "Falcon Crest" as Highway 29 in the Tuscany Valley, particularly in # 036 <2.18> when Julia, Melissa as well as Chase and Cole, all in their respective cars, drove to the Agretti toolshed (shortly before Julia had her faked car crash):
20210908-165946.JPG

Michael giving Olivia a ride to school: I think the street before they arrive at the usual school on Selby Avenue is from Glendon Avenue if I'm not mistaken. One of the first houses we see is street number 2810 (now a bit remodeled). The following streets (alternating close-ups of Michael and Olivia) might have been put together from different streets though. By the way, it's ridiculous how badly Michael's license front plate is mounted to his Ford Escort. It looks as if it almost falls off any second. That's especially weird considering that he comes from the family that previously owned Knots Landing Motors. :)
KL-7.20-2810GlendonAv,LA.JPG

I'm not sure if the restaurant scene (Abby and Peter) established by a shot of The Chronicle was actually filmed inside that restaurant. Exterior footage is from what used to be The Chronicle at 2640 Main Street in Santa Monica. The structure is still there. The entrance is not on Main, but on the northwestern side of the building. It's still there, but slightly updated and difficult to see due to the trees that have grown so much.
KL-7.20-2640MainSt,SantaMonica.JPG

Does anyone know where the parking lot scene was filmed when Val and Olivia see Gary in his new sports car? The Former Security Pacific National Bank is visible in the background, but it's not their former downtown headquarters (which was 333 South Hope, a.k.a. as the early Denver Carrington from "Dynasty"). It looks familiar, but I can't place it. Does anyone remember where the bank was located?

# 7.20 (continued):

Too many pictures... so I had to start another post for this episode.

At approximately 35 minutes into the episode, Gary's next ride in his sports car with Jill was filmed on Griffith Park Drive again. This time, he comes down from Mount Hollywood Drive and drives onto Griffith Park Drive. Mount Hollywood Drive is usually closed to public traffic. You can see the barrier they opened specifically for filming.
