I read early in the year that the character of Walter Deveraux would be offscreen from later in the year. So that was all planned many months in advance. Beyond that, I don’t know. Dawn Hope (Pearl) has said in interview that Walter and Pearl could possibly get together one day perhaps.

The new family doesn't interest me at all (so far), and attempts to connect family members with established characters also seem desperate. Ethan is the only bright spot in the new clan.
Celeste is very unlikeable right now. I would be extremely surprised if Toby were jailed for Lisa's death. It is awkward that so many victims of Ali suddenly come forward. At least Mercedes is back.

David Tag doesn't age well, maybe that's why he was fired. He is only 36, but if someone told me he's 45 I would have believed it. Anyway I'm sad Sylver is gone, but he was no veteran or huge fan favorite, so it was obvious he had to go sooner or later, because Mercedes always needs a new man in her life.
We've seen Marnie a lot in recent episodes, even though she has no major storyline, so I wouldn't be surprised if she'd die, too.
