It does. I've been surprised by how much it has affected me as well. Strange how something that has been expected can still come as a shock. Every time I hear someone sing "God Save the King" it chokes me up.

The choir at Saint Anne's in Belfast (Northern Ireland) sung God Save the Queen today as part of the service today to welcome King Charles III.

I was driving & immediately burst into tears because this will be one of the last times we will hear or sing God Save the Queen. :(

My condolances to everyone from the UK and the commonwealth on the loss of your Queen. :(
Queen Elizabeth II was often referred to as just "The Queen" since she was more important than the other sovereigns in the world somehow. A lady who was the one constant thing in an everchanging world. She selflessly devoted her life to the crown and her duty. She was a remarkable woman who we will not see the likes of her again. Sadly she belongs to a generation that has almost left us completely now.

I feel terribly sad for her family too who has lost a mother, granny or great-granny. I'm sure this loss is most felt by them and I hope they find the strenght to make it through this difficult time.

It is gonna take some time getting used to King Charles III. Also I have mixed emotions about Camilla getting to use the Queen Consort title since I loved Princess Diana. It is also not really fair how if we have a King his wife becomes queen but if we have a queen her husband only becomes a prince. But I guess at the end of the day no matter how you look at it, Camilla is Charles wife and he needs her support at this time and Diana has been gone for a long time. In fact Charles has now been married to Camilla longer than he was to Diana so I guess I don't really care all that much if she will be known as queen consort. It is good that Charles is not alone.
I have always had some sympathy for Camilla. Don't get me wrong, her and Charles did Diana dirty, but they were all nothing more than pawns of the monarchy. If Charles had been allowed to marry her in the first place, all of Diana's pain could have been avoided.

Well, what can i say and I dont really know where to start...........................

Im shattered, hot, sticky and sweaty and heading for a very long soak in a bath and food - but I have had a remarkable day, a very emotional day and met some very wonderful people during that time

I got up at 4.30am to get a train to Edinburgh and was able to pay my respects to the late Queen Elizabeth in the early morning, then head to Holyrood to see Charles leave in a car to go to airport, look round the memorial garden which made me cry reading so many tributes and i took a wee bunch of flowers in her memory. And for my late mum who met the Queen at Holyrood

Then headed back up to St Giles and had a real prime spot to see the events of the afternoon, and see princess Anne arrive then leave with her mother

It was so moving and i will probably post more tomorrow but i had no idea how emotional i would find it especially walking past her coffin in the Catherdral and then seeing her depart for the final time to go to Edinburgh airport

IT was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO busy but the crowds were well behaved and respectful and a huge thanks to the G4 stewards and Police Scotland for their imput, the police were great interacting with the crowds and special thanks to one who gave me his bottle of water!

I was ill prepared for going, and had to give my bottle of water in when i passed security, I only had an apple and dairy milk all day so am very hungry and a Chicken Chow mein is awaiting!!

Im so glad i came, its part of history and its a tribute to this wonderful lady and just how much she was loved when you see the attendance

I dread to think what queues would be like in London to view her coffin

friends waited over 4 hours last night

I was in / and out 40 mins after geting off the train, no queue just a very long walk - over a mile - to get a wrist band to allow you in

God Save our Queen and RIP< thanks for everything and the sun really shone in Edinburgh, The Queen loved Scotland and it did her proud this week

PS

from Princess Anne

I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting.
We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who share our sense of loss. We may have been reminded how much of her presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted.
I am also so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch.
To my mother, The Queen, thank you.

I think China and Russia can do it very well, if not better than we can. What we do well is tradition and history.
I've seen state occasions and ceremony put on by China and Russia and many other states very impressive.

Watching yesterday's events in Edinburgh and today's procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Palace was, I believe, on a whole different level.

Befitting the moment, and just beautiful.

Yeah, very beautiful.

As befits the love and standing that we the British people have in the love & respect of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Rest In Peace Your Majesty. :rip:

Thanks for sharing @Barbara Fan
I am glad you were able to pay your respects to the Queen. It sounds like a very special moment that you'll remember for the rest of your life.

I wish the Queen's funeral would have been on Sunday instead of Monday though. I mean people in the UK and the commonwealth probably gets time off work to watch it. But everyone else in the world are working as usual on a monday. It's annoying that I can't watch her funeral live, as it's a way for the public to attend it. I will have to tape it and watch it later in the evening and it's not he same thing at all! :(

King Charles' fountain pen leaked!!

:eck:
Do you mean during his visit to Northern Ireland's Hillsborough Castle on Tuesday when he became really irritable and angry? Maybe it's how he expresses his grief; it can't be an easy time for him.

He's not had luck with ink and pens this week. He came across as arrogant, bad tempered and rude at his proclamation ceremony when signalling to an underling to move an ink well.

I'm quite happy to make fun of Charles III, as I need the giggles. But I'm kind of missing it.

Was it that bad??

I appreciate people have different views but can't we be human about them too?

Have you never been exhausted, tired or angry? I know I have and have thrown a pen across the room in a moment of frustration when it decided not to work.

I don't quite understand why we expect other humans to act differently.

I'm not a flag waving fan of the monarchy but the Queen's death has taken me by surprise in regards to how emotional it has made me feel.

We have a horrid Government and I feel we had a lovely Queen who represented the UK brilliantly.

Imagine Boris Johnson was president, which is how he acted. At least we had her.

There is a time to discuss what happens next or if the monarchy should continue but right now when people have strong feelings over her death I'm not sure it's the right time.

Imagine if Meghan fought with a fountain pen -- and then stabbed an aide with it.

Her fans would be claiming the pen was racist-misogynistically sabotaged and would justify her every action, support her demonstrably false versions of what happened.

So people's outrage tends to be selective.

I think these hit the nail on the head of giving these moments context.

All through the week as I've watched the Royals travelling between different parts of the UK and making numerous public appearances my overwhelming thought has been for their lack of privacy in grief.

Everywhere they've been there are numerous cameras on them (I've been horrified at the lack of decorum some members of the public have shown by thrusting phones in their faces while the Royal is conversing with them or someone alongside them during walkabouts).

Nobody in the world this week has been more visible than the King.

Like many of us, I've experienced bereavement of close relatives, and I can look back on how intense and pressurised the aftermath was without the eyes of the world being on me. There are two or three interactions in particular during those times where I cringe thinking of my overreaction to something perfectly trivial that I'd ordinarily have shrugged off. I feel very grateful those moments were allowed to pass by and not captured, analysed and magnified for the world to see.

I'm not disagreeing with your comments, in fact, in my post that you quoted, I acknowledged that this is a difficult time for Charles and that his behaviour was probably influenced by his grief over losing his mother.

Of course I recognise the emotional impact the death of the Queen has had on many people but I also see how having an unelected head of state foisted on us with no discussion has been particularly galling and upsetting at this time in particular for people who believe in our country being a true democracy.

I accept we live in a country in which views other than unfaltering praise for the monarchy are suppressed, even the police are arresting people for holding up blank sheets of paper for fear they may write an anti-monarchist slogan on it.

So I will resist the temptation to post anything further on this thread so I don't upset the one-sided narrative that is being encouraged.

It's not about it not being encouraged, but many people have their own personal views on it, many of which are emotional.

Those strong feelings can end up in arguments especially as it only happened 7 days ago.

There is no issue in discussing it but perhaps a separate thread would be best for those views and this one purely to for those who want to remember the Queen in a peaceful reflective way.

From listening to all the views over the past week some people are upset and don't even know why. It is a pretty complex bag of emotions.

You witnessed history, and were a part of it
QE2 is such a monumental part of history, and she is clearly loved and admired by many, many people

God Bless the Queen!

Sometimes people forget that regardless of wealth and privilege, all people mourn the loss of loved ones.
Sometimes the strong emotions associated with the grief cause people to act impulsively and even erratically.
At such a time, people put aside their differences and support each other.
I know that my family and friends unite when losing someone- we mourn their passing and celebrate their life.
The passing of QE2 is sad, but it has also provided an opportunity for people to
come together in expressing their love, respect and admiration for this
extraordinary woman.

May God Bless the Queen!

Some alternative news guy who was watching the fountain pen-gate video today remarked that in profile Charles "looks just like Joe Biden!"

Biden and Charles are both Sun in Scorpio/Moon in Taurus (for those keeping score).

its part of history
...and to think @Barbara Fan you are participating in an historical event. From the other side of the world us Aussies have no sense of the magnitude The Queen's passing has had on the United Kingdom. Television - on this occasion - does not do her passing justice. If there is one thing I'm taking from all this it's the applause most spectators are offering as the hearse slowly passes by.

25 years ago when the death of Princess Diana was announced there was shock, disbelief and hurt. Her death rippled around the world. With The Queen's passing it's different. While the majority of us are sad at her death there are thoughts of Elizabeth living an extraordinary long life...something that should be celebrated.
