Searching for sports games. Everything is pretty much going to be on a streaming platform someday and sports on the basic cable networks is going to be a thing of the past. Okay, I get it. I guess I just long for the days of simply knowing exactly where I could find my favorite teams and not having to google them first followed by searching through my entire menu.

Pain

Not a fan of it. Not a fan of waking up with it or dealing with it as the day goes on. Of course I also hate when someone will say “well, it’s just part of getting old.”

It's not just pain for me, but certain kinds of pain-- rhinitis (nasal irritation), for me, being one of those I can't stand.

Yes, I know this can be very uncomfortable to live with as I knew someone that was always trying to deal with this.

Tonight I’m hating on storms. We’re under a tropical storm warning where I live. Luckily we’re not expected to get the brunt of Hurricane Helene but it’s still quite nerve wracking. I just hate seeing the damage these storms leave in their path. It’s very sad!

Well the random thing I'm hating on right now is the local media over-dramatizing the weather/Helene situation. Other than some medium-high winds there has been little to no newsworthy stories/footage where they're broadcasting from (where I'm watching)....but local reporters out in the field are doing their level-best to drum up "action" as best they can.

They have young, eager reporters out doing entire two-minute segments on a neighborhood power outage (they said 2000 residents) that had already been repaired. One young girl was selling "local flooding" of a street where you could see cars driving along with water not even half up the wheels. A reporter being driven in a car on I95 was going on about how it had been raining "really hard" ten minutes before, but now we see nothing outside the windows as he reports. We just have to trust him, doggone it, that it was really really scary....recently. I know their bosses probably ordered them to go out and get a story, but if there's nothing to report....just have them come back to the studio. It borders on gaslighting.

Yesterday we had a situation across the street from where I live where a guy and his girlfriend had a domestic dispute which had clearly escalated. Everyone on the block received a text from the sheriffs office to stay indoors while the police handle the situation because the suspect may be armed. Of course there were people coming out of their houses left and right to get a glimpse of the chap, ignoring the orders of the local authorities.

There’s the random thing I hate about these kinds of things. Just stay in your house and wait it out, especially if you’re being told he’s armed. If he’s thinking about shooting his own girlfriend chances are he’s not going to think twice about doing you in as well. I mean, here is this guy walking back and forth up and down the block and people are walking right towards him to get a closer look. One woman was walking her dog within 10 feet of him as he was literally standing right there in a standoff with the police. My neighbor next door to me was the biggest offender though. She was walking her dog as well while her husband pleaded with her to go back inside. He asked her what she was even walking the dog for at this moment and her answer was that the dog really had to go so what else could she do? Okay, I get it. So did it ever occur to you to take the dog into the backyard instead and not towards an armed suspect? Her husband looked at me and we both shook our heads.

Luckily nothing came out of it and it turns out he wasn’t armed at all, but of course no one knew that yet. They had just had a very loud argument and he hadn’t even laid a finger on her thankfully. The whole thing was kind of blown out of proportion and the cops told the rest of us it was fine to go back to our lives and come out of our houses and they would be keeping an eye on this guy for awhile just in case. So a lot of it was a big misunderstanding but it just really irks me when people do dumb things that put their lives in jeopardy and ignore basic orders.

Received this text today from my town. Right now I’m listening to massive machines on my road which are also making the house vibrate and shake. It’s going to be a long night. It’s 1220am right now.

Amber Alerts on my phone. Can’t think of anything I hate more than the idea of a child missing or being abducted. It’s the most helpless feeling when I get that alert. I want to just jump in the car and try to go find them myself.

That, and Emergency Alerts as well-- much as we need to hear the message, the vibration and sound from the alert practically drives me up a wall.

It can be a little scary, especially when it wakes you up in the middle of the night or early morning. I put it right up there with the “This is just a monthly test” alert that I’ll hear on my TV every now and then. Not my favorite noise.

I’ve actually turned them off except for government emergency alerts. This way I’ll know when the nukes are incoming lol
