Okay so next up I thought we'd list movies by this classic star:



Spencer Bonaventure Tracy was an American actor. He was born on 5th April, 1900 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. He grew up with a four year older brother and had some difficulty to concentrate at school. He was of Irish-English descent.

At the age of 18 he went into the Navy and went to training in Chicago. But the first world war ended before he had to go into battle. He attended Ripon college with the intention to study medicine but during his first year there he did a stage play and became bitten by the theatre bug. He won a scholarship to attend American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York City and transferred to that school in 1922. Tracy made his debut on Broadway during this year. He graduated a year later and joined a theater company. He worked with theatre until 1930 when he was discovered by director John Ford who offered him a role in a movie. His movie debut came with Up the River (1930).

Spencer Tracy was a contract player for FOX and MGM. He gained critical acclaim. He won two Best Actor Academy Awards for the movies Captain Courageous (1938) and Boy Town (1939). He also won a Golden Globes and a number of other prestigious awards.

Spencer Tracy worked within films for almost 4 decades before he died in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA on 10th June, 1967. He was 67 years old. All together he made 76 movies for the big screen. But which one is your favorite?

A great classic actor and one of my late dad´s favorites. Here are my choices:

No need to say that, even being an amazing actor himself, his performances opposite Katharine Hepburn became instantly memorable. The titles mentioned above did not only feature impressive acting work from him, but also tackled issues of the times (of any times) in a way still valid today: racism, domestic violence, feminism, historical genocide, political manipulation, hidden fascism, extreme ways of doing justice...and all that in only 10 films!

The movie shows an interracial couple and the reactions they get from her parents when they learn about their daughter's upcoming marriage. It stars Spencer Tracy in his final movie role, Katharine Hepburn and her niece Katharine Houghton and Sidney Poitier. The movie was directed by Stanley Kramer and was considered groundbreaking for it's time.

The movie was directed by Vincente Minnelli.

The Twenties was a decade when Jazz was really popular so it’s sometimes referred to as “the roaring twenties.” This decade saw economic prosperity, the rise of communism and a wave of female liberation. Women were allowed to cut their hair short and wear knee long skirts. The women who followed that fashion is often referred to as “flappers.” In many countries they were also allowed to vote for the first time. Women also started entering the work force. The decade ended on a bad note though with the Wall Street Crash in October 1929.

During the 1920s lifestyles and cultures changed rapidly and more households got electricity, radios, cars and telephones. Frozen food and records were introduced. Going to the movies also became a more common pastime and people were more interested in celebrity culture. Silent films started to give way to sound films. The Jazz Singer (1927) became the first movie where people were talking.
