It's not like WE ever asked ourselves: but then who is the real Cristal Floris?
Speak for yourself. I don't know any Floris.
I did wonder to myself who Celia's baby daddy was and if he might turn up in the US, trying to seek her out.

think a lot of us went from a first impression of "this isn't Krystle!" to thinking around mid-season "she may not be Krystle, but I like her anyway". When the show debuted most of the characters were painted with too broad a brush; add to that the fact that Cristal was the character probably the least like her original counterpart. This was enough to put a lot of us off Cristal/Celia/Nathalie. By mid-season the writing had improved and the writers and Nathalie Kelley both appeared to have a better grasp of the character. Unfortunately the producers, writers and network executives (especially the network executives) lacked the patience to allow the viewers the time to get to know and like Cristal.

"That's not Krystle, but I like her anyway" pretty much summed up my attitude. I was totally non-committal on NK's acting skills; I tend to "buy" into a performance as long as the performance isn't remarkably horrible. It was the writing choices that took longer for me to buy into. It's funny to hear people speak of "the chance to rewrite the character and take her in another direction," since that's what they already tried to do with the shift from "Krystle" to "Cristal". This would be their second attempt at it, if they are in fact planning to use Real Cristal Flores (RCF) in the same capacity they tried to use Celia Machado (which is actually very much up in the air). By mid-season, the writers did what writers tend to do, which is to write to the strengths of their actors (AKA using them as inspiration) rather than just writing stories without the actors' abilities in mind. It seems like there has to have been some unhappiness on NK's part that factored into the decision to write her out, because only the most callous writers would toss the baby out with the bath water this way. What I mean is that she also must not have wanted to continue in the role, which helped them come to the decision to write her out rather than re-tool the character.

As she obviously turned in the best performance.
Not necessarily. Different actors bring different things to the table. Depends on what the producers were looking for, how many boxes were ticked.

sex tape making, unfaithful wife of a woman.
She is not Matthew.

The fact is it's the writers who messed up Cristal, …. this on the run, identity thieving, cheating … woman.

When she stole, I thought her greedy. Then I realised she needed medical attention, but before that could happen, came that messy business with her violent brother-in-law, and things were a lot worse for her. I could empathize with the character. It didn't make her unlikeable. If the producers/showrunners wanted a Krystle type, what was stopping them going that route?

I never got the idea that they wanted to write her as an unlikeable person. She was more like a bad-ass good-girl. But that's not an excuse for behaving like a total slut.
And it started in episode 1 (!) when Blake was banging her on his desk in the study. It made her look like a cheap whore.

For me it wasn't really the writing (as it wasn't any better or worse for the other characters) or Nathalie's acting, which was perfectly fine. I just don't think she was the right choice for the role, and that's the fault of whoever was in charge of casting, not anyone else. I also don't think James McKay was a good choice for Steven. I did start to warm to Nathalie a bit near the end of the season but I still think she wasn't right for the role. Hopefully Ana Brenda will be an improvement.

Oh, and that's another thing: Cristal's boring hair. It should have been bigger, it's Dynasty for God's sake.

This looks OK-ish but that's not how I remember it from the episodes.

What a tacky show!

Right, it's kinda hard to take her seriously with that hair. If only she'd gone for something a bit more like this. Then I would have totally bought her in the role. And she'd probably still have a job today.

Yeah well. At least she has her life back, that poor gal. Going to work every day and getting well paid for it can be really tough, you know.

FINALLY! I've been waiting for what seems like forever for them to announce who's going to play Kirby. Ooh, and she's a regular this season? I'm hoping for a season's worth of tension before exploding in an all-out catfight! :D
