Considering how irritating I found Jeff Colby, I would not object to him acquiring a psycho stalker. She could set fire to all those aluminum-foil suits he wears and force him to dress like a normal person in order to blend into the crowd and avoid her.

Regarding the "Manuel" spoiler above, if babies/nannies are already in the mix, this would indicate they're having a time jump, since Melissa is not even showing in the season finale and no nanny would be needed otherwise.

I can recall several cases where shows have had their budgets cut so deeply that they have to limit the number of appearances of their actors. The show would intentionally "write around" certain characters in a way that allows the characters to remain on canvas, but not have them appear in (and thus get paid for) every single episode. This was pretty much how Knots Landing did their fourteenth season, by having everyone (except Michele Lee) agree to appear in fewer episodes. It's a reach (there is nothing out there saying that nuDynasty's second season budget got cut), but having Cristal sit out four or five episodes at the start of the season would free her up to stay onscreen the rest of the season. They could ration out the absences of the others just by having their story not feature that week (except maybe Fallon, since she's such a linch-pin character).

Bumping this, another example was CBS's Cold Case in their final season, which ended on a cliffhanger too.

CBS slashed the budget big time so the location shooting in Philadelphia stopped and all production was relocated to Los Angeles. Previously it was filmed in LA, with the location shoots in Philadelphia.

Also, the budget cuts forced actors like Jeremy Ratchford, Tracie Thoms and Thom Barry into taking turns to not appear in every episode. Only Kathryn Morris, Danny Pino and John Finn appeared in every episode of the final season.
