The establishment's deliberate perversion of the gay rights movement

Whether or not the left has exploited or perverted the Gay rights movement, the fact remains that it is the RIGHT that is the biggest threat to those rights.

Kim Davis has asked SCOTUS to overturn the right to Gay marriage. Justice Thomas is chomping at the bit to overturn Obergfell and the majority will vote with him using the same flawed logic that the Court used to strike down Roe.

Same sex marriage has been codified, but with Trump in office and Republicans having the majority, that law can and most likely will be repealed.

But please, let's just ignore who and what the real threat to gay rights is.

But doesn't the left "exploiting and perverting" the gay rights movement have something to with what's happening now? They've handed gay rights' head on a platter to the conservatves. (Once gay marriage was made law in 2015, the activists either moved on with their lives, or they needed something else on which to activize: chopping up the babies).

They never moved on with their lives. The simply sat back and waited for an opportunity to pounce. Yes, maybe the left's overcorrection hurried the process along, but it was ALWAYS going to happen - just like they were ALWAYS determined to overturn Roe even though they seemed to be more resigned to it in the 90s and early 2000s.

At this point, I don't think it matters how we got here. Pointing fingers at the left may be legitimate, but it does nothing to put out the 5 alarm fire that the Republicans have started.

And the reason Roe v Wade was never codified, as Obama claimed he'd do and had the supermajority he needed in his first two years in office, was because the DNC needed the issue to campaign on. And then look what happened.

Yes, I think it matters how we got here. Because that affected whether we got here or not... The Republican politicians are craven indeed, but the woke quasi-lefties helped them at every possible turn.

And, as always, sowing chaos always benefits the elites.

I don't disagree. Having said that, I don't think it's productive to continue to beat dead horses of assigning blame here. The question for me is what can be done NOW that the chickens have come home to roost?

As far as codifying Roe, yeah, Obama should have done that. But honestly, do you think it wouldn't have been repealed in Trump's first term? Asking because I am fairly certain that when SCOTUS strikes down Obergfell, the law codifying the right of same sex couples to marry will be repealed by Trump and his ghouls in Congress.

By that standard, we might as well never enact any laws because they can always be overturned with the subsequent administration... Codification should make it harder to overturn, but it's not impossible.

My guess is that gay marriage won't be withdrawn, for various reasons. But the controversy in doing might be a useful distractin to the overlords... We'll see... What's interesting is how few gay folks have chosen to get married over the decade since it became legal --- I guess straight marriage didn't look like an ideal template on which to frame same-sex relationships.

Marriage is a religious thing in my opinion.

Well, to be fair, the marriage rate among heterosexuals is way down too.

Personally, I don't think the government ought to be involved in marriage at all. We shouldn't need to pay a fee to our government, get their permission to marry, and have them issue a piece of paper to prove it.

But - if our government is going to sanction a right for SOME of its people, that right should be available to ALL of its people.

Exactly. Instead of advocating for common sense policies, the Dems have crafted trans policies around children and allowing trans athletes to compete in sports alongside their biological counterparts. Meanwhile, Republicans were anxiously waiting in the wings for people to vote them in so they could repeal policies like Roe v. Wade and gay marriage.

The woke CIA and Pentagon is a prime example of the perversion of the gay rights movement. We shouldn't praise these corrupt institutions simply because they have a diverse group of spooks and war criminals, yet many on the left fell for this scam. Of course, their woke pandering stopped as soon as Trump was elected (surprise, surprise.)

The bottom line is it will take a common sense approach to lgbtq issues, as well as a return to pro-working class/anti-war policies in order to defeat the Republicans. Until then, nobody's rights are safe. If the goal is to not end up here again, then how we got here most certainly matters. The opposition must have integrity, moral clarity, and backbone.
