After taking a break that lasted much longer than I thought I finally finished the first season and what a brilliant season it was with an amazing season finale. Normally I prefer seasons to be around 8-12 episodes, but with The Orville, I would very much love a 24 episode season.

The humour is good in parts, but I'm not overly fond of all of it, sometimes it feels forced, but I can get over that. It has everything I love about Star Trek, apart from the teleportation.

Like The Flash, this has unexpectedly shown up on a free-to-air channel. I have a few episodes backed up on my DVR but I just watched the first one.

As I expected, it's reminiscent of Quark. In fact it's very much in the Buck Henry school - parody but played completely straight. MacFarlane clearly has a love of Star Trek and he's not so much making fun of it as fulfilling a dream to be in it.

Very enjoyable. :)

Just finished season one on my DVR in time for the new season which will be fast-tracked starting this Friday.

Toward the end they almost seemed to forget to be funny - which made me enjoy it even more. It's more Star Trek-ky than Star Trek is now.

The finale in particular had a strong (even controversial) message about religion that the original would have been proud of.

Very sad to see Alara leaving the crew. She was my favourite character.

Reminds me of the way TNG suddenly wrote out Tasha (also my favourite character) but at least she's still alive so may return at some point.

An alternate timeline version appeared in the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" and Denise Crosby also played her grown daughter Sela but the original Tasha never returned.

But she did, somehow... in the series finale, when Picard travelled through time.
Okay, storywise it was the past, but anyway.. Denise Crosby definitly returned to play Tasha once more. :D


On topic: the story between the Krill woman and Cpt. Mercer in episode 4 reminds me very much of Voyager's storyline around Seska and Cmdr. Chakotay! :D
I bet we'll hear from her again, maybe she's even pregnant as well, just like Seska was... :eck:

Well as you say, it was in the past. Crosby returned to the show but Tasha was not brought back from the dead.

Apparently the Orville season 3 will be on Hulu not on fox. I believe it will stream the end of this year.

i only became interested in it because Seth is a Star Trek fan TNG and later. I was expecting a farce and was surprised it was a serious show with comedic elements. You truly care about the characters.
