Besides, Jill's conversation with Gary about Val's "suicide attempt" on Knots Landing, and Miss Ellie's phone call about Jock's helicopter crash, I also liked Kristin's mysterious phone call to an unknown person leading up to the classic "body in the pool" Dallas cliffhanger. In that scene, the viewer sees an agitated Kristin and is led to believe there is going to be another confrontation between she and JR. I can hear her now:

"It didn't work. He even threatened me. The hell it's over. He's going to regret what he said to me. I'll see to it."

Gary calls Miss Ellie after messing up their bedroom while Val is in hospital for a botox injection tumor removal - "Knots Landing: The Loudest Word" (S2) aka "the crossover that never happened but should, guest-starring Barbara Bel Geddes as the one and only Miss Ellie"

On this subject, I'd like to throw in a little mention of Abby's phone conversation with an unseen/unheard party circa Season Four. When she calls the other party "Mrs Ewing", there's a pause while something is said at the other end and she amends her response to "Miss... Ellie" before giving a self-satisfied look.

It's a nice little character moment that effectively shows status seeker Abby ingratiating herself deeper into Gary's world and edging Valene out by winning over - or at least becoming visible to - her future mother-in-law. But it's also one of those scenes that highlights Ellie's physical absence and gets the fanfic fantasist in me really wishing BBG had been up for Ellie visiting California once or twice.

It would have thrown character integrity out the window, but what if Miss Ellie had a multi-episode visit shortly after Gary and Abby married....where Miss Ellie showed how she cuts loose while on vacation. She would toss all kinds of home-spun shade toward that blonde bimbo her son married, referring to her as "Amy" or "Allie" to her face, all while Gary remained totally oblivious. All the cracks about Abby's overdone make-up, her cold demeanor, the way Olivia and Brian seemed to avoid her, and of course Abby's all-encompassing lust for money would be when Gary and everyone else left the room, and of course nobody would believe mean old Abby when she accused sweet, little Miss Ellie of being such a bitch to her.

I'm not going to change my vote now but I just remembered another great phone call. In Knots Landing season 4 when Val is getting ready to go to Richard's restaurant/club for Ciji's album launch. Gary, who has now fallen off the wagon due to Abby's manipulations, calls Valene desperately asking for her help. Valene tells him not to hang up and to tell her where he is so she can come and get him. Lilimae overhears the call and just as Gary is about to tell Val, Lilimae cuts the call off so Val can't go to him.
