@Richard Channing, a couple of questions before posting my choices: Are taped wills considered as soliloquies (in theory they should: the person - eg, Laura Sumner - was alone when she taped it)? And, are monologues to Ugly Babies who can´t talk, acceptable too - eg, Pam and Christopher)?

I think @Willie Oleson should answer this as he is hosting this round so he decides what the rules should be. I did also wonder if talking to babies counted as it's practically a soliloquy, but maybe technically it's not. As for wills, I dunno, I guess a soliloquy is really where someone is talking to themselves or thinking out loud, and in a taped message they are talking to someone, even if they're not in the room. That's my take on it. Let's see what Willie thinks.

If the person talks about him/herself (e.g. what that baby means to him or her) then it expresses the thoughts of that person.
And it's also possible that the baby represents something or someone else.

But cutesy baby talk, hoping to trigger a smile or laugh, is communication. After all, it's the first step in learning the language.

Do you have a particular scene in mind, Tony?

Yes, these are statements and/or instructions, and they are meant to be heard.

Thanks to both of you, I think you clarified this for me. Scenes between Pammy and Ugly Baby? So many...Always expressing what she is thinking or feeling...not as if she says "this little monster is getting weight every day...My back hurts...!"

Voilà my Top 5:

1- J.R. says goodbye to Bobby in Pam´s dream ("Dallas": "The Family Ewing")

upload_2018-9-13_19-36-36.jpeg
"Get me out of hereeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
(Copyright: Patrick Duffy)

2- Pam sums up what a mess her life is to little sweet Christopher (aka Ugly Baby) ("Dallas": "End Game")

3- Karen lets dead Sid go and gets rid of that rusty old ring he gave her so many years ago ("Knots Landing": "Letting Go")

images

"Sorry Mrs. Fairgate but I can give you $10 only for this"
"I changed my mind. I´d better pull a Pollyanna..."

4- Fake nurse Katherine speaks to mummy Pammy about her (presumed) plans (too bad it was all a teaser) ("Dallas": "Digger Redux")

images

Were they ever sure that she wasn´t dead...
or that she was our Pam?
5- Angela´s final toast to her lands (and Wyman´s to her series) ("Falcon Crest": "Home Again")

Honorable mentions: I know that she doesn´t speak (with words), but I love that scene (from "Requiem") when Pam, in front of Rebeccabeech´s mansion, ends up crying for the latter´s death. She expresses a lot about what the character has had to endure up to that moment and the decision she is making about her future.

"I was painted in South America by Wes Parmalee
and sent by FedEx before the death of my model.
You know, the one who was Takapa!!"
Also: Greg´s "barbarian" speech to Titus Semple´s portrait, JR pretending that Jock was self-absorbed enough to have his own picture in his office ("The Phoenix"), Richard visiting on his own the gravesite of Jacqueline ("Cimmerean Dawn"), Cliff´s promise to Digger that he will kill JR ("A House Divided"), Pam telling Baby Chris that Mark isn´t "the same" as his daddy after sleeping with Mr. Moustache (I wonder if she was thinking about whether "size matters"...), and so many others (including that infamous "All liars" thingy from adorable Wacklaudia...)

upload_2018-9-13_19-39-40.jpeg
"Eggs and toast, and some sausages on the side!"

I agree with a lot of your choices and it´s a treat reading your comments! As usual, I can´t avoid thinking that a top 10 would´ve been even more fun!

I've got to admit all the talk of Ugly Baby is making me laugh myself silly. I thought I was the only one who dared call certain babies "ugly".

This isn't easy as there's so many great scenes to chose from. But here we go.

1. Lilimae to Chip's coffin. (Knots Landing)
2. JR's goodbye to Bobby at his funeral (Dallas)
3. Bobby talking to Pam (who is a mummy and says nothing back only writes a note). He cries at the end of the scene. I think it might be their last scene before she disappear. (Dallas)
4. Val's transformation in front of the mirror (Knots Landing)
5. Angela's goodbye at the end (Falcon Crest)

Oh no, he really looked like a Frankenstein's mini-monster.

But thanks to Cynthia Cidre's magic powers he turned into a prince charming.

Sort of the opposite of "throwing the baby out with the bath water," we'd be bringing the bath-water back just to have the babe....er, baby.

Pam was so over the moon when Bobby showed up with baby Christopher.

She should have said:
What took you so long? Now I have to reheat the chilli. And then - after a quick look at the baby - "that's the best thing Ewing money can buy? I should have asked my brother!"

1) Angela's final words: The wine based eighties show puts a cork in 9 seasons of goings on, with the final words from Jane Wyman as Angela Gioberti Channing Erickson Stavros Agretti. ...... "A toast to you, Falcon Crest and long may you live!" - FALCON CREST.
2) JR talks to Jock's portrait (after his father doesn't return from South America): JR pulls himself together and realises the man who started the oil wealthy company isn't coming back, to Texas. - DALLAS.
3) Alexis means business: With Adam on the radar Alexis ups the ante regarding her prominence. Blake isn't going to be in her bed but the rest of the Denver business circle just might. - DYNASTY.
4) Angela at Jason's burial: Harking back to the formative years of the business Angela provides a rather moving collection of words, before her brother is interred in the meadows burial plot, beyond the vineyards. - FALCON CREST.
5) Cliff's promise to Digger: Cliff goes to Digger's grave before JR is shot and he says something which furthers our understanding of the Barnes versus Ewing feud. - DALLAS.

JR goes into Jock's office, over to his desk and then stands looking at his father's portrait, (a scene from season 4; DVD - 5, 1981 - '82):

"I'm sorry daddy! I let you down.

I just flat give up. Back there at the swamp you were gone. It was all over. It didn't seem like there was anything left going on for me. I almost forgot. You left us something. You left us the company. You built Ewing Oil from the ground up and whatever it took you did it for Ewing Oil.

I'm going to do the same. I am going to pass it bigger and stronger to my son. I'm back Daddy! Nobody is going to take Ewing Oil away from me; or my son, or his son.

As JR finally glances at Jock's portrait he remarks:

I swear to you, by God, I'm going to make you proud of me."

3. She Ellen after the nurse leaves saying she can beat being an alcoholic (dream season)
4. Angelica’s speech after she killed Nicholas. Creepy (dream season)

Honourable mention to Jake sanders in return to Eden the first episode as a series talking to his dead brother Greg’s grave. Setting up his motive for the whole show.

Dallas and Falcon Crest are currenlty leading the scoreboard, so maybe it's time for Knots and Dynasty to up the ante.
How about a secret alliance?

But then, that also means that Alexis - our beloved Dynasty heroine - has to put up with two other blonde tramps.

What's she going to do? Stay tuned for the next battle!

You don't need an alliance, just some targetted themes such as "best alien abduction" or "best kidnapping of new born twins".

I'd like to see Flamingo Road win at least once so it can also be on the leader board.
