Had I received it I'd be returning the set for a full refund and reporting the seller. Apart from the questionable legality, that seller will be making an obscene profit from less savvy buyers who won't realise they've bought a counterfeit (and probably wouldn't be happy if they did know).

Just my opinion, but I think as fans of older series it's good to support the industry when our favourite shows are made officially available.
I certainly understand your reasoning, but I'm content with what I've got.

Okay the set I ordered came in last Thursday, and I was finally able to get to it and open it on Saturday. The outer box looked good, but when I opened the individual cases within, I could instantly tell the set was a bootleg. Naturally I was worried and somewhat upset that I probably wasted my money, but I decided to check some of the discs before totaling flipping out. I skimmed some episodes on the discs and the quality looks good. It appears the set is a bootleg version of the real DVD set. The quality perhaps isn't as clear as in the official release, but it's quite good. As long as the discs play and I can watch the show, I haven't any complaints.
If you bought them through eBay they'll refund you the money but not ask for the set back. eBay seem to refund quicker than any website I've ever used. Mildly damaged packaging, questionable quality, slow shipping, no tracking etc. are all things I've had happen before and they've refunded me each time even without me asking, just querying sellers, they seem to step in to mediate before it even requires it.

I've been off the past two days, and would you believe I didn't take any pictures of the set? I'll have to make a reminder to take pictures of it so I can post it here for everyone to see. Honestly, it really may do be a bootleg set, just fuzzy pressed DVDs.

Here's some photos of THE COLBYS set I received. The photos look a little smudgy in spots, but the quality of the episodes are great.

What did you think of my DVDs? You think they're legit?
Let me put it this way: not every product is a counterfeit simply because it doesn't look perfect.
I don't have the R1 version, but forum member Mel O'Drama does. And here's what he had to say about his purchase:
My copy of The Colbys was pre-ordered from Amazon US before official release, but arrived with a damaged slipcase because the card used was so flimsy. I returned it and they sent a replacement but the same thing happened (again, because the quality was poor). I complained again and they ended up refunding the whole item without me having to return it.
The images on the disc do indeed look quite terrible... like it was done on a printer that was low on black ink.

So that appears to be what I have. The DVDs look quite awful, but the quality of the episodes is solid.
