The iconic reality TV programme will be back for what could be their last series later this year, and they are making sure they go out with a bang.

Channel 5's contract for the show comes to an end this year and, while talks are still ongoing with production company Endemol, they are yet to re-sign the programme.

Sources tell Daily Star Online the civilian series of Big Brother 2018 has been confirmed to start either the last week of August, or the first week of September.

This means a Friday launch night would take place on August 31 or Septemeber 7.

"Big Brother bosses are open about the fact they don't want to take on Love Island in the ratings," a source explained.

"They have revamped the casting team behind the scenes in a bid to shake things up in terms of casting new housemates.

"The show won't start until the end of August at the very earliest."

But that's not all.

The controversy-loving show which once gave us stars like Jade Goody and Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, is set to be the longest ever.

Currently Big Brother 8 in 2007 was the longest lasting 94 days – just over thirteen weeks.

"Everyone is being told to leave at least twelve weeks free," a second insider added.

"They are saying it could be the longest ever and are making people aware a fourteen-week stretch in the house is highly possible."

Daily Star Online first revealed in December how BB was facing axing its traditional June launch date.

A source at the time said: "Last year was understandably disappointing in terms of ratings and they will want to avoid taking on Love Island."

When contacted by Daily Star Online at the time, a rep for Channel 5 failed to deny both the schedule change and Love Island's influence simply saying: "We will confirm a launch date nearer to transmission."

I think with falling ratings, two CBBs a year wasn't sustainable. I think they will drop the one immediately after the regular series and just have CBB at the start of the New Year.

Oh my goodness thats a long stretch. I'm not sure I would manage to see every episode.

Its a shame if a summer series of CBB is sacrificed. I've grown to prefer CBB over the civilian series.

Wow, this is very late.

I don't think I realised the timings earlier, if this is going to last as long as they are predicting, we could be going into December. Not really sure that would work.

Me too. Not only is it a better class of housemates (well, sorta anyway) but it's usually just a month in length and that suits me much more than something going on any longer, especially when there's no real stand out housemate.

I know absolutely nothing about the coming show. I've seen articles teasing who is going in, but I haven't opened any of them. I also read in one headline that Megan Markle's sister is going in. I don't know when it's due to start, but we do have a new eye...

For the first time in a long time as far as I remember, I'm not that excited about this year's show.

, Despite not having much excitement in the build-up to last night's launch night, I really enjoyed it and was pretty much back into the excitement as Emma walked around the house.

I'm loving that they've closed off the stairs, you can tell that it adds to the anxiety as the housemates were coming down them. I also love the idea that if anyone else comes into the house (Stormy Daniels perhaps) no one will see them until they're actually in the room.

Everyone seems pumped up for Kirstie Alley when all I was thinking was that she was quite a big star in the 80s and 90s, I didn't watch Cheers so that went right out of the window for me.

The one I'm completely thrilled with is Rodrigo Alves, I'm just stunned at anyone making all those changes to their body, what does he look like first thing in the morning and the bigger question is why would any doctor remove a person's rib, let alone three of them?

The big one to watch for me (besides Rodrigo) is Natalie Nun, as soon as she came out of the car I thought it was Latisha @Richard Channing, she really does give me the impression she will be a fine firecracker in the house.

I wasn't sure what to make of Hardeep, though the way he describes his name by using a Bee Gees song was amusing. I had to rewind a bit of his chat with Emma before he went into the house because he started licking his lips and I wasn't sure if it was a habit, or he was trying to be pervy with her.

Nick Leeson is quite a signing, though I'm not sure what he will bring to the house.

I couldn't work out what Ben was, he had this rather weird laugh and he came across as someone who isn't sure of what's going on around him.

All in all, I'm looking forward to seeing what this bunch get up to.

I think they have been clever this time round picking celebs who have all been in some kind of scandal. It makes sure that the press will be following events very closely and will be keen to print stories about them and it also means quite a few of them are potential troublemakers.

I think Kirstie is going to be great. I really enjoyed her in tonights show.

The one I'm completely thrilled with is Rodrigo Alves

OMG, every time he's on screen I suddenly feel like I'm watching a cartoon. He's definitely fascinating. I'm always dubious of people whove had that much work done and he is coming across as quite a bitchy queen. He may end up being quite an unsavoury character but he's definitely gonna make for good TV.

Trouble with a capital T. She is gonna be at the centre of a LOT of drama, that's for sure. A few things she has said made my ears prick up. Like when she asked if Chloe's kidnappers were cute (insensitive much??) and then later says, she says she's been kidnapped, who knows, maybe she has. lol

I wasn't sure what to make of Hardeep

I get a bit of a creepy vibe from him and I didn't like the way he was manhandling Ben. And he was being incredibly sarcastic about Dan when they were all in the bedroom

I can't either. He's either going to be highly annoying or highly entertaining but so far I'm finding him quite entertaining.
