Should I just skip the dream season?

Actually it's a mix of "Dynasty", "Knots Landing" and even a bit of "Falcon Crest". Anything but "Dallas".
Perhaps I'm super excited to be watching the Dream Season for the first time in many many years but I'm absolutely loving it. Several episodes in and I feel it's still very much Dallas. I've also noted some subtle nuisances in filming techniques. For example filming the characters from behind as they engage in conversation. In one episode there was a scene between Jenna and Jack arriving at his apartment dripping wet, from the rain. Jenna was sitting on the floor while Jack was getting the fire started. The dialogue, filming technique and the subtle way both actors delivered their lines gave the scene a rawness to it.

The Dream Season has surprised me.

Dallas was at the top of its game. And so far I'm not missing Bobby.
i I love the dream season, warts and all and nevr more than this season did i think Dallas the city and Southfork the place looked fab and beautifully filmed
I will take the dream seson over the final 4 seasons any day of the week

and as much as i loved Bobbby Ewing back in the day, Id far rather have Momma and BBG in the show and Im a Bobby and Pam fan who very much enjoyed her scenes with Mark Graison aka John Beck and was sorry when he had to be written out (again) as Mr Ds film career never got off the ground

The dream season was a breath of fresh air, such a shame it all got nullified because of Patrick Duffy's return.

It also effectively nixed Steve Forrest from playing a re-cast Jock Ewing. I've often wondered how the show would've grown if Duffy had not come back. I know they tried again in season ten but the storyline was very divisive with the viewers. Steve Forrest would've made a great Jock Ewing. :)

Here's a rare behind the scenes picture of Steve Forrest with Barbara Bel Geddes.

I never dream about the soaps (unless it's about the Falcon Crest foyer or the Carrington's posh butler's pantry we never saw) but I had a ridiculously elaborate dream last night that Pam's dream was retroactively turned into a dream within a dream , making it all make sense.

As I near the end of the "Dream Season" I have to admit I've loved watching it all these years later. I was a little apprehensive prior to my watch but thought just dive in and enjoy the ride...and what a ride its been. The stand out performances were Barbara Bel and Linda Gray with special mention to Steve and Susan. Dallas was brave in airing such sensitive topics as abortion, Down Syndrome and children with special needs.

Sure Dallas went all Dynasty but I didn't feel distracted by it. While the ladies kept up their high maintenance appearances this was balanced with Ray still working the ranch and the rodeo. JR was in the thick of it all season; wheeling and dealing. The character of Angelica Nero wasn't as confronting as I thought she would be. Barbara Carrera played her with just the right amount of coldness I expected from such a devious villain. I had hoped the writers would have pushed the envelope and hinted Angelica and Grace were in a relationship. I still get that vibe all these years later.

As I'm about to bid farewell to the Dream Season I still had hopes for what could have been a thrilling season without Bobby. There was no need for the introduction of Angelica Nero or Matt Cantrell. Upon reflection these stories were still a distraction. After the death of a major character like Bobby the story should have focused tightly on the Ewing and Barnes family and the ripple affect of what Bobby's death really meant to each and every one of them, especially for Pam when Bobby plonked her in the Ewing office.

Jenna appeared to be side-lined for much of the season until the end. This was disappointing as it felt too little too late. Her confrontations with Pam at Southfork lacked the chemistry I had hoped for when both characters came to the realization who Bobby was talking to: "...all that wasted time..."

Many had issues with the Dream Season however it wasn't as bad as I remembered it, in fact I've found myself binge watching 3-4 episodes in one sitting such was the joy in watching it. Perhaps the resolution coming soon in "Return To Camelot" is what frustrates many viewers. It's that realization we've been cheated after investing in 31 episodes...all for nothing.

Score: 8/10

I always liked PP in Dallas and she hgave the show huge amouns of publicity in 1983 when she was cast as jenna

However during the dream season I found her acting to be a little weak and a bit hammy.

The beauty of DVD is you can quickly skip thro Matts Emeralds and Marinos shipping, Beware of hatpins Angelica and A mannequin can act better than Grace and foucus on the real stars of Dream season

Miss Ellie
Donna
Sue Ellen
and Pam
They were fab!

I liked the addition of Priscilla as well. Looking back on the Dream Season I believe the writers missed an opportunity to create tension between Pam and Jenna. As the season drew to a close there was a sudden shift to focus on Jenna but it smelt like the writers had suddenly woken to the fact, "we've forgotten about Jenna." I think the return of Mark - as much as I liked the character/actor - shifted what could have been great viewing watching Pam and Jenna play off each other as they come to the realization who Bobby was speaking to in those dying moments. Of course most viewers had made up their mind Bobby was speaking to Pam but from Jenna's point of view she believed he was speaking to her.

Priscilla's acting - when placed in dramatic scenes - was her weakness. However, in the closing episodes of the Dream Season I found when Priscilla was called upon to play Jenna with a coldness it worked really well. She didn't have to overplay it. Offering Miss Ellie a frosty reception was good enough for me.

I’m rewatching this show for the first time in years and am almost at the end of the dream season right now. It has good elements and started off pretty promising. But it gets jarringly stupid the longer it goes on (and it goes on wayyyy too long). Angelica Nero and her band of misfits had at best a 5-7 episode expiration date and that mess went on far too long.

If youre just interested in the Dallas story and don’t want to waste time, skip it. But the season actually happened. The actors actually filmed these episodes and they aired. So I figure just watch it and roll your eyes as necessary.
