Thoughts on the Lisa Alden storyline

Bobby's the Best

My wife and I have been enjoying watching the show on IMDBtv the past few months, and the Lisa Alden story line is just taking off now. I recall that there was some deep seeded hatred for this story among fellow Dallas fans. I get that the writers never should have attempted to get Bobby romantically involved after Pam left town, but was there something more to it? Jog my memory, if you would.

Lisa Alden could have been the most hated character of that season. But then came in Miss Bonsai and her gang of annoying characters... No wonder the actress seems to be retired upon her Facebook page...and has become a writer and producer...and a partygoer...!

Bobby has suffered enough from the loss of Pam that's why I still don't get who behind the scenes thought that the audience would appreciate it if he suffered even more at the hands of Lisa.

The idea of Jeff Faraday's sister showing up wasn't bad at all. I would have liked to have seen her earlier when Pam was still around, even later when Bobby was in a serious relationship with April Lisa showing up could have worked, but season 11 was just bad timing.

There was too much Jack Scalia that season, too, so the overall balance was off that year.

As many of you know, in order to get the jump on an impending writers' strike, Lorimar didn't have the usual spring hiatus in 1987 when the seasonal bible is prepared -- they had to go right into filming the next season, to write as they filmed, as soon as Pam careened under that propane/butane tanker truck.

That affected the structure and flow of the '87/88 year.

I thought it was a good storyline at the time when the show originally aired.

However because it's from one of the show's final seasons I haven't seen that particular season in a long time, and I've no desire to re-watch it again any way.

For me Dallas finished when Bobby's Mercedes driven by Pam hits the Oil Tanker at the end of season ten. :)
