Watching season 8 and near the end, the almost splitting up of Ewing Oil should have gone through... especially with Bobby's death, JR would have fought Jaime and Cliff for the whole thing—wasted opportunity.
Donna Reed had lots of good moments. She's a fine actor. I don't miss BBG, I really don't. I never understood why Season 7 aged John Ross up, but did not do the same with Christopher. The ugly little weepy troll stayed on way too long.
Omri Katz as John Ross is a fine little actor. One of the best kid actors on tv at the time, definitely from the soaps. Dynasty having the worst kid actors- ever.

It does seem like things could have been a lot more interesting for a couple of years if the Ewings had lost that court battle. Out of curiosity, did any of the creative heads ever mention whether that court outcome would have been different had PD chosen to stay on the show? I imagine they would have been more willing to go that route if they weren't gut-punching the viewers with Bobby's death, around the same time.

Also, with Bobby's death, they should have split Ewing Oil up to the cousins and Cliff. JR works his best shark skills to get it back. Jack comes in, just as smart as JR, but is more like cousin Gary, angry, unconventional and he battles JR- Jack is not an alcoholic like Gary but a guy who made his own money because he hated Jason so and resented Jamie for defending his shiftlessness. Do a kooky thing and fill out the cousins... make them their dynamics... And Jack will throw in with JR just to spite Jamie and Cliff. Bam...

One thing that did annoy me about S8 was Jamie tattling and telling on JR to tell Sue Ellen. Why destroy her marriage, which at that time was going into repair mode? THat was a shitty thing to do and should have at least shown another side of Jaime, she could be an Ewing shark too.... or just a very hurtful way to make Sue ellen rage again.
Imagine being inspired by his Daddy and Bobby's death..... JR the shark... but no. And when Lars wanted Patrick back, a big fat no should have been said.... if he wanted to end the series do it... There was a scene that could have been used in the dream season when Pam sells to JR and then other stuff with Wendell is settled....
It's unfortunate to see such a wonderful series take such a massive belly-flop in quality in just a short time. I think we all know why.
LEONARD KATZMAN. a hack of the highest order who did not care if his ego ruined the show. Phillip Capice was the brains... he kept the show on the rails.

Maybe my memory is wrong, but I don't think Jamie deliberately told on JR to SE. SE just happened to overhear the conversation. Jamie also didn't tell SE about the fight JR had with Cliff over Mandy. Marilee did that. Jamie tried to protect SE.

thats true, I guess... .still, it was none of Jaime's business on what JR did, but if this were real life, NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS would be said every other line.

Hey everybody! It's Front End Friday!
As a special treat, this week comes with a one minute mystery. What is wrong with these two pictures from War of the Ewings?

They load up J.R.'s limo with so many boxes that there's no room for J.R.! Sue Ellen graciously allows J.R. to ride in her limo with her.

These are the two limos --

View attachment 53192

Oh No! A bomb blows up the limo that J.R. was supposed to be riding in!
"That bomb was meant for me, Sue Ellen." J.R. exclaims.

What a fiery explosion! So here's your one minute mystery-- What's wrong with the video clip of J.R.'s limo exploding?

View attachment 53193
These are the continuity errors that always catches my eye as someone who has some interest in the automotive industry. The limos go from mid-1990's Cadillac Fleetwoods to mid-1980's Fleetwoods. Obviously they didn't want to destroy a new limo just for this scene.

I think the Jamie Ewing story may have changed during production.
Didn't Jenna remark that Jason and her Father were not exactly best friends?
Maybe Jamie was supposed to be an imposter, and the real Jason Ewing would have appeared.
An eventual alliance with Cliff and Pam (which happened anyway) was the goal
and the Ewings would lose control of Ewing Oil, at least for a time.I do think JR was not wrong to be suspicious, and granted
he was not nice to Jamie, but if her intentions were so noble,
why did she have the papers with her?

Yeah, I think we have discussed the Jamie character being changed from the original plan before. Jenna definitely suspected her of being up to no good, then that seemed to just get dropped.

That would have been great. Not an imposter, but someone out to fleece the Ewings for sure. They should have split Ewing in 3rds... That would have given JR something to do for another 5 years! The death of Bobby wouldn't have been so hurtful to the show to the point they hurt it worse with a return.

It’s definitely a big what if from that season. The Ewings losing the company a couple of years earlier could’ve given us some good drama going into that next season. I wonder if that would’ve affected Bobby and Pam’s reunion in any way. Perhaps he stays with Jenna til his “death” instead if the Ewings lose the company to Cliff of all people.

What always bothered me about that hearing though is once the boys get the documents from Amanda it’s just a formality. We know they’re winning the case and it kind of kills off the drama. Maybe having the documents show up in court with someone when it seemed all Hope was lost would’ve been a better way to go if the Ewings were going to win.

I don't know about that. Something saving their asses at the last second was kinda played out at that point. And as I've brought it up before, it's a bit unrealistic for evidence to just pop up and not be examined by both parties.

The best solution for that case would have been for Jamie and Cliff to win. Dallas was always at its best when the family had to rally together to save Ewing Oil.

Yeah, it was kind of overdone I guess. I just never liked how once they get those documents the hearing is kind of already a forgone conclusion that they were winning.

Just to make Cliff look like a fool. Miss Ellie even tells JR, "now that you have the document, you should tell Cliff about it and he'd drop the lawsuit." Of course that was never going to happen as Cliff was 100% sure that they'd win. Lol

Cliff always seemed more than a little divorced from reality when it came to fighting the Ewings - JR specifically. JR beat him down time and time again, but Cliff was always so sure he was going to win.

At the end of the series, one of the things I hated most was that Cliff ended up with Ewing Oil. It was a betrayal of what the series had always been.

What I didn't like is that they acted as Cliff was never a lawyer towards the end. No way would a lawyer make the mistakes and act the way Cliff did towards the end.

So, I just watched the episode where Ellie freezes Donna out over writing that book about Jock. Ray goes to talk to Miss Ellie, making an eloquent argument that Jock should be remembered for who he was and not put on a pedestal.

I have to say though, halfway into his speech, when he talks about how much he loved and respected Jock I had this thought pop into my head: You loved and respected him so much that you seduced his teenage daughter in the hay loft?

Rebecca Wentworth was a good character that should have been utilized more.
She appears to have had the resources and the power to destroy Ewing Oil.
I wish that had been explored more, she could have been a most formidable adversary,
and the Ewings could have had a real challenge to their empire.
The writing did her no favors.
Her husband's daughter only gets a 1/3 share above two half-siblings that she only acknowledged for two years?
Not to mention Katherine seemed to be capable of managing business.
Also, Cliff for all his flaws was an attorney, and at least capable of managing an organization on
some level.
What was Pam's expertise? A department store position that may have lasted a portion of one year?
I would think that a businesswoman as smart as Rebecca would have made better succession decisions.
