Rebecca Wentworth was a good character that should have been utilized more.
She appears to have had the resources and the power to destroy Ewing Oil.
I wish that had been explored more, she could have been a most formidable adversary,
and the Ewings could have had a real challenge to their empire.
The writing did her no favors.
Her husband's daughter only gets a 1/3 share above two half-siblings that she only acknowledged for two years?
Not to mention Katherine seemed to be capable of managing business.
Also, Cliff for all his flaws was an attorney, and at least capable of managing an organization on
some level.
What was Pam's expertise? A department store position that may have lasted a portion of one year?
I would think that a businesswoman as smart as Rebecca would have made better succession decisions.
I never understood why Rebecca would leave so much of her second husband's estate to children who had no connection to him. I would have loved to have seen Katherine fight to overturn that will. She certainly had a better case than Ellie did when she tried to overturn Jock's.

I think it was just her way of trying to get all three siblings to work together, maybe feeling that if they were all close in business they’d be close in life. That’s what I’ve always assumed Rebecca’s motive was.

Totally agree. There's a very good chance that old man Wentworth probably didn't even know that Rebecca had other kids. This was his company and it should have been willed to his only child.

Ellie had no chance of overturning the will
Jock would have had to have been completely separated from reality, or so diminished that he couldn't care for himself.
Neither was true, and any good lawyer would have told her as such.

Katherine had every right to her Father;'s company.
It is too bad that Katherine was written as so unhinged.

If I remember rightly he didn't know anything about Rebecca's other two children when he died so I guess he assumed that once Rebecca died Katherine would inherit the lot.
Ah, yes - you're right.

Katherine should have left Cliff and Pam some.of her wealth, but the company should have been Katherine's. It would have been nice to see Katherine and Pam fight over the will rather than over Bobby.

I think you mean Rebecca should have left Cliff and Pam...

Kind of makes you wonder why Mr. Wentworth left everything to his his wife in his will. Maybe he should have made sure Katherine was taken care of.
Best guess is that he never thought about Cliff and Pam,although Rebecca presumably would have told him at some point

Yeah, I understand why a lot of people feel that way in hindsight but I prefer Katherine as a lunatic.
Morgan Brittany was great in the role. I saw her interviewed - she seems like an intelligent, articulate, likeable lady.
She is also an author
I know that she was in the show "Glitter"
It only lasted 13 episodes - a shame. it had a good cast

I loved Katherine, as despicable as she was. I know that type of character was done to death in soap land back then but there was just something special about the way she did it. Despite the evilness and the cunningness, she never could quite get what she wanted. It always eluded her. She never could one up J.R. and she never could land Bobby no matter how hard she tried. The character still had a kind of vulnerability despite all her scheming and that was what I enjoyed about her.

I always felt a little sorry for Katherine. She had the perfect life, then suddenly two siblings came out of nowhere and Rebecca dotes on them while ignoring Katherine. Maybe the reason Katherine wanted Bobby so bad wasn't about love, but about wanting to take something from Pam since Pam basically "took" her mother.

Wondering if Dr. Ellby was ever intended to be a bed partner for Sue Ellen.
Have you noticed the only person Jeff Cooper had any scenes with was Linda Gray?
Interesting, because I always assumed she would end up having an affair with him - especially after JR made that comment about how she found the only psychiatrist in town that would try to get her into bed. I think that would have been a very dramatic storyline. Never understood why they didn't do that and utilize Dr. Elby more.

This is an excellent point. Figuring out what was in Katherine’s mind is probably a thread all in itself but I would assume part of her motivation had to be the resentment she felt for Pam and Rebecca becoming so close.

It would’ve made for more drama between J.R. and Sue Ellen had they gone this route but ultimately it would’ve made their doctor-patient relationship much more complicated in my opinion. Dr. Ellby actually ends up being the hero for helping her figure out she didn’t shoot J.R. Had they had an affair I’m thinking he wouldn’t be as well received in the end.

Completed Season 8- Bobby is now dead. What a terrific send off. I have to say the best cryer award goes to STEVE KANALY AND SUSAN HOWARD. What great acting from everyone.
Season 8 of course feels off for obvious reasons. No one is to check on JR, not too many schemes happening. Linda Gray of course, brings it. He Lost Weekend routine was amazing.
Episode 12 I think....
  1. the good things.... Sue Ellen's mother hasn't been seen in a while, good to see her.
  2. Omri Katz is a fantastic kid actor! Brings it. He's not cloying or gimmicky.
  3. Hagman has some good stuff, he really mourns Bobby. Although why he was ever paired with Mandy is lame. Did he not once say kissing DEBRA SHELTON was like, "Kissing Hitler!" LOL. She's a fine actor, although a tad one-note.
  4. Pricilla Presley is less annoying this season. She works well with Jack, who i never really liked as he was not fully formed. Is he a cowboy for Ray or a foil Oil man for JR? Yes? No? He was there as Bobby's replacement, but he had no cred.
  5. This season should have had the Ewing and the Barnes forced to share a company. JR would have been super shark like and had a purpose instead of mope about Bobby and Sue Ellen. But why does this even matter with it soon coming to an end thanks to the awful Hackery of Leonard Katzman, moron producer.

I loved Judith Light's old hag character. I wish we had seen more of her. More interactions with JR.

Jenna was at the peak of annoyance that year. The "Bobby loved emeralds" speech is one of the worst bits of acting we have ever seen on Dallas. The hysterical nervous breakdown was so bad it was comical instead of tragic.
