It was all over the place. There were parts of it that were really beautifully done and wish hadn't been lost in the dream solution, but it's clear no one knew exactly what kind of show they wanted Dallas to be that season.

Yeah. JR is in, he's suspicous, he's ok with it. He's asking around.... this season is now in it's schtizo phase- nothing sticks or makes sense.

I think I give up on it totally when it’s revealed that Jack looks exactly like Dimitri. I know these lookalike storylines were very common in the 80s but it just didn’t feel like I was watching Dallas anymore.

That was more Dynasty crap.
The thing that made Dallas so special is that it focused on the characters. The beginning of the dream season was very Dallas like. JR's grief, Ellie's shock, SE's sobriety, Pam's moving on...
But then, we have long lost BFFs searching for Emeralds and Angelica's diabolical plots.
Somewhere along the line, producers and writers seemed to have made a conscious decision to shift directions to make the show more like Dynasty.
It's a shame.

The show could have survived without Bobby IF it had stuck to a real plan, not get caught up in backstage drama.
EWING OIL should have been split into thirds with Cliff/Jaime/Jack/JR.

Also, I've never seen Hagman act awkward before- Marinos party BS, he's so stiff and awkward. I can see why he hated this season. Ironically, this episode was directed by Linda Gray.
Just a dummy storyline.
The tragic thing of the dream season is how awful the Krebs were treated. Their adopt-a-kid storyline is good. The deaf kids made me smile and most were good actors. I didn't understand why Tony uses sign language when he can be clearly understood unless that is for his sake since he can't hear himself?
It boggles the mind how the season went into the shitter with ONE season. Bobby's final season was good and well-paced, but this is full of one crap story after another. A few exceptions, but the feeling did not feel like DALLAS, JR, and Miss Ellie didn't act like their characters, Pam was not well integrated no matter the contrivance. Most of the female characters except Sue Ellen and Donna were treated crappy. Jaime especially.
A few changes would have helped. Charlie being an Ewing, Bobby's daughter, the split of Ewing Oil into thirds gives JR several seasons' worth of shark activity.
Katzman is a hack and always will be.

Yes, it starts off still feeling much like Dallas. A Dallas without Bobby yet it seems to be fine without him, at least at first. Then come the storylines that seem like they’re right out of a dream, which I find very ironic.
Always felt she should’ve ended up being Bobby’s. Missed opportunity for me.

Well, I finished the NIGHTMARE season as that's what Pam calls it later.
Very strange. Bad strange. The pacing was off. Nothing storylines. And why was Ben Stivers introduced at the very last only to be supplanted by Wes Paramalee? The scene with JR, Mark, Pam, Cliff, and Jaime at the Grayson wedding felt like a SERIES finale. JR was reasonably only slightly shark-like, Cliff didn't make bold claims of conquering... very odd to have it.
They had Duffy back on board by spring 1986, which seems rather slapdash with the dumb shower scene.

I agree. The whole last part of that season felt like a series wrap up. We had watched JR scheme and hurt others for years to get Ewing Oil. Finally he had it - lock, stock,and barrel. He had a happy marriage and was able to finally treat Sue Ellen well. He and Ellie were affectionate towards each other. He was on good -ish terms with every other character.
If that had been the end of Dallas, JR would have went out on top.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here. If Dallas ends with the dream season I would’ve been fine with it. A lot of characters had come full circle by that point and had their stories nicely tied up. A couple of storylines would’ve been left up in the air unfortunately but for the most part everything is settled.

Honestly, after the dream season, season ten is the only one that's decent. Ending it then would have probably been less painful.

Yes, the kindler gentler JR did not feel right, did not play well. It felt contrived yet had the series ended there, I would have been fine with it. Sad the cast didn't wrap it and come back for a few more tv movies....

I wonder if Patrick had not left and come back, therefore having no dream season, how much differently would Victoria’s exit have been handled? Would they have killed Pam off instead then?
I like this much better than what they did. If it has to be a dream then I’d rather it be this. Makes more sense than being Pam’s dream.

Another random thought -
Why did Sue Ellen get the phone call that Jamie had died? Jack was off the gord - fine. But Cliff was still technically her husband and she hadn't even made a will that didn't include him, so so he would have been her emergency contact. I get Sue Ellen was her boss, but I always thought the next of kin got the notification.

Jamie and Cliff were separated and Jack was gone, I can see her naming Sue Ellen as her emergency contact.

Maybe Jamie chose Sue Ellen because they had both just simultaneously survived fatal bombings at the end of the previous season. There was a bond there.
