Things are a little bit upside down in NuDynasty, but not too much, I mean I can't imagine Alexis as a non-villain.
But since all the others are different from the original characters, I wonder if they'll do the same with Alexis.
For a show that promotes itself with a pretty cupcake promo, I honestly don't think this character will be unpleasant to look at.
But what if she's a different type of villain? For example, a very intelligent person, a doctor in "something" or a psychiatrist. A calm, but very manipulative person with a superior and icy attitude - and smile. Cristal and Fallon are already very emotional and physical, a third one would make it less varied?
I think it was a smart move to re-make both the story and characters - especially Steven is the complete opposite of original Steven (by Al Corley) - because it avoids the obvious comparison.
It would have been extremely difficult to satisfy the audience, especially the fans who never stopped being fans, if the characters were simply cloned.
"OMG, who does she think she is? Linda Evans? What a travesty!"
I think there are quite a few capable actors out there, so I'm not saying that it would be impossible to re-create that on-screen magic. But honestly, what are the odds?
Besides, since this first season looks like original season 3 (in terms of spectacle), it's obvious they didn't intend to re-create original S1's poignant and cinematic atmosphere.
And to be honest, I think it would have confused and alienated a lot of people who hardly remember those episodes.
And no viewers = no show.
Would it be better to alter Alexis' personality too? Like the example above, or maybe a no holds barred dragon like Judith Ryland or Margaret Chenowith (Six Feet Under)?
Or do we insist on seeing the glamorous, sultry, semi-sophisticated alphabitch from the original show (not-played-by-Joan-Collins)?
