Elizabeth was good in season 1 when she was directed correctly.
The Fallon/ Liam nonsense ran its course years ago.
Yes there were the one liners ( that’s a carry over from the og Fallon) but she also conveyed real emotion, when her father was disappointed with her or being abandoned by her mother and trying to prove herself in big business also with the love for her brother. Unfortunately that was 4 years ago before the show centered around her and Became an episodic comedy.
Liam / Adam isn’t an actor, he fits in so well with this cast.
I feel for Michael Michelle, I’m sure her crap comedy material she’s been given starting with the house of deveraux to the home shopping network altercation isn’t what she signed on for accepting an iconic role hoping in 2019 that there actually could be a real black bitch on tv. She probably thought Cookie from Empire and got clowned instead.
If it’s true that Steven will be back for the season or series finale it’s too little too late to poorly tie that major loose end up quickly when we could have had him back and gotten rid of the dead weight, Kirby, Culhane, Sam and Liam and Jeff . I put Alexis in that group as well, what was the point of returning the character for the garbage they write. Blake should have sent her away quickly finding out she caused the miscarriage and murder, insinuating Mac was hanging around
when it happened and that was that, easy, get out or I’ll kill you scene between them. This could have been done within NS commitment before she bailed on this sh@t. Instead of that bs of Liz playing her then a bad actress taking the role with nothing to do.
The show runners really must hate the OG so it’s fitting this show is ending in a couple months for good, they get a season 6 it’ll be the same old but with a new Blake or no Blake, either way it’ll be more awfulness.
The writing and characters on this show act and talk like 13 year olds even though the youngest character now is late 20’s up to late 50’s
It makes all of them act and seem a bit “special” and is really insulting to the audience and OG.

Unless they reveal in the final minutes that Carrington Manor is in fact a large, elaborate spaceship that has been perched on a hillside in Buckhead for the past thirty years. As the theme swells, the spaceship detaches from its hillside and flies off into the night.

They should have the whole cast go up to outer space in the finale.It was the wrong network to do a reboot of Dynasty. It’s core was older characters.
If they couldn’t sell it to a network or a cable channel like HBO where it could have been done properly then it wasn’t meant to be and shouldn’t have been done at all.
But the continuation of Dallas was bad too,
It just had the OG players going for that one.
Sally did a great job season 1, a commendable remake with nods to the original, even in season 2 while se was blind sighted with the networks demands in marketing for a young audience and getting rid of her Crystal for someone they thought would bring them international viewers (right) she tried to keep it together up until the departure of James and NS. Then it went to hell completely.
Season 3 until now has been total garbage.
It’s painful to watch older characters especially Alexis act like they’re in Mean girls with pea brains. How can you introduce a character with such a sinister plan to take down CA and Blake taking advantage of your presumed dead son with an imposter who’s your boy toy to selling hot dogs then face cream on the home shopping network. Elaine Hendrix could never have pulled off season 1 material at all. NS started her career from one of the best written and best acted shows in this genre, can you imagine a culhane ,Liam Kirby or Sam in knots landing? I have no idea where EH came from , I think some basic cable crap show but she’s clueless. Even with Melrose place where Grant got his break they were 20 somethings and didn’t act like teenagers like this shows characters even Beverly Hills teens didn’t act so immature and dumb . Different times now I guess and EG cannot carry a show, even for the Disney Chanel

Great observations Lankershim. To turn this franchise into episodic bad, poorly acted comedy just absolutely killed it. I wasn’t even a fan of season 1 that much. The chick that played Krystle couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. (Well that’s everyone on the show too.) Sheridan acted if she was in some foggy haze, but she was miles better than EH. It’s totally geared towards what a teen feels and thinks. As bad as the first Dynasty got, especially after Moldavia, at least you got the feeling you were watching human beings. There’s no drama, rivalries, STAKES on this show. Everything is wrapped up too fast and everybody always wins, especially Fallon. Every character is so obnoxious and shallow you can’t root for anyone. No charismatic villains. No charismatic do gooders. NOTHING. Who wants to see this bs every week? CW has such garbage shows. I’ll continue to hate watch it til the end which will hopefully be in a few months. Will be kinda sad because when it leaves the air the Dynasty franchise, even in this crap form, will be gone forever. But we have the OG on dvd and stream so…

In season 4, during the very rare occasions he was given some good material, I was surprised to be rather impressed by Adam Huber's acting. Because he is reduced to be a sparring-partner to Elizabeth Gillies he rarely has something to do but he is actually good, particular during emotional scenes.

I noticed that too. But there are only rare occasions where has the opportunity. When the marriage was almost over his confrontations with Fallon were a thankful reminder that they're more than a comedy duo.

Eh, I actually disagree with you there - in a lot of emotional scenes he falls flat.

I think he acts "natural". I don't know how to describe it properly but he shows depth beneath the otherwise easy going attitude (early Redford, not taken too seriously even though he wasn't bad in his early films). The few times where he cried I thought he is one of the best male criers. I think he and Sam Adegoke have the most under-written supporting roles and they do their best with it.

Adam Huber's acting reminds me of John James, which is ironical considering the fact that Liam is actually the new Jeff. Both actors have a way of acting which is not particularly impressive, yet it is very effective according to me.

The difference was that John James in the OG had a sparring partner who had personality in spades PSM which made Jeff interesting. In the beginning anyway.
This new Jeff/Liam feels like every scene he’s in is forced on us for no reason, like culhane and EG delivers her lines a mile a minute and never even blinks like she’s on speed or meth or some narcotic and he just seems lost. OG OG Fallon was captivating and Fallon 3 is just obnoxious . Does anyone really care about the side plot of his movie, of course not. He’s just there to model without his shirt.
Stupid pointless plot even for this when there’s so much that we could have gotten in it’s place like fleshing out Dex and Amanda and now Culhane is a movie producer, ok, he was also the owner of a soccer team, ok , I think the plot was that Blake couldn’t put a good team together without him , ok sure, and the owner of a hotel from making billions in a couple months all from being a Chauffeur sure that’s all believable. Dominiques singing daughter was a more interesting character than him and he just keeps appearing every episode.
Like JJ well provable never hear from him again. But I do think James acting was far superior to Adam’s, maybe because original was written like a human being not a cardboard cut out.
The whole Liam story was dumb from his intro,
He just happened to be there when she needed to marry someone plus was a billionaire, sure that’s all believable.
The only actor who really had success in the og after the show ended was heather locklear.
Some others went to day time tv I think but only heather was able to really keep it going through the early 2000’s which was impressive. Starting in 1981.
I doubt we’re going to see any of these people ever again after the summer.

It's looking grim for Dynasmash unfortunately - CW just renewed AA: Homecoming, leaving Dynasty, Charmed, Legacies, Naomi and The 4400 fates unknown - by all accounts it sounds like things are looking bad for the remaining shows and most (if not all) might be cancelled. Damn them selling out to Nexstar!

2. If S5E17 isn't going to air until July 8, we must be getting a hiatus or pre-emption sometime between now and then.

Alexis' dress for her wedding with Dex is quite a replica of what Joan Collins wore in the original show for the same event.
The same can be said for Dex's tuxedo actually.
Of course, the original outfits were much better.

Forget the wardrobe,
The biggest difference is
This Dex is a complete bore with nothing to do.
This guy isn’t even on par with the original Alexis’ secretaries.

Elaine Hendrix’s suitcase isn’t big enough to pack her Joan Collins,
It’s not even large enough to pack her Nicolette Sheridan.
Her acting is too limited.
They couldn’t even rent a church for this scene?? They shot an episode in Paris now they can’t even leave the studio and shoot a scene in Georgia.
What a shame the direction this reboot went.

During a recent Instagram Live, Rafael De La Fuente gave a seemingly spontaneous 'tour of the studio', where he basically walked around Eagle Rock Studios showing several sets, the dressing-room trailers, and several crew people all milling about. As hard as he tried to keep "plot points" from being seen (such as showing only Liz G's hands because she was wearing a "spoiler-ish" outfit), it was pretty clear that the episode they were filming (episode 22, the last one) was set at Christmas, since several sets had lighted garlands and such in the background. It would make sense that they would jump ahead that far, since it would be roughly the timing of the birth of the Falliam baby. The others in the shots (Elaine, Maddison) were wearing holiday-type outfits and party-style makeup, and Rafael had a very nice, white outfit hanging in his trailer waiting to be worn in his scenes. Rafael spoke of how sad it was to see things already being wrapped up (Alexis's penthouse apparently was not part of S5E22, because it was being deconstructed). It starts off kind of slow but gives a pretty good idea of what the studio is like. Of course in two short weeks it will look totally different, since that's when he says they will be done filming.

I think comparing these images illustrates how new Dynasty miscast the role of Alexis. For some bizarre reason when I think of a conniving/vengeful role like Alexis I always see a dark/brunette haired actress. It offers the character an air of mystery behind her. This is why the original was so good - whether by design or accident - Linda being blonde gave her an angelic look while the arrival of a dark haired Alexis offered the audience the concept this bitch was dark and moody....and it worked.

There was that whole "we're subverting expectations!" thing with the development of this reboot, and the Alexis/Krystle-Cristal thing was just one of them. For generations TV shows (especially soaps) had always used the "blond=good, brunette=bad" visuals in the same way Westerns always had villains wear black hats and the heroes wear white hats. So the producers of the reboot likely thought that the ethnicity/gender switches were a sign of how they wanted to play with the source material and put their own stamp on it. If they had managed to keep hold of NS and NK in the roles of Alexis and Cristal, I think they would have been able to develop that rivalry into something more similar to the source material. The loss of both actresses (and subsequent issues with establishing recasts) made them lose their way and basically leave one of the original's most memorable aspects (the A/K rivalry) untouched after mid-S2 when NS left. After that, the two ladies did not have many opportunities to interact at all and even when they did it wasn't written as a strong hatred/rivalry.

The sets are definitively the strong point of the reboot. The mansion is beautiful, the penthouse is exquisite and their version of La Mirage is much better than the original hotel. If only the rest was half as good...
