But oh how things quickly change. I know it's only paper money but when billions of dollars has been wiped off the bottom line a company like Netflix might be revisiting some of their current catalogue. What's working, what isn't. Netflix are currently losing subscribers at a rate of knots so I don't see them wishing to purchase a series like Dynasty.

I know....I keep finding myself scanning the web to see if some kind of announcement has been made. It helps me cope when I see them cancelling comic-book/fantasy shows, though, because perhaps it means they want to re-position as a network with shows more "down to Earth" and Dynasty is (slightly) more realistic.

I wouldn't connect this to Dynasty. The Warner Brothers/Discovery merger is the cause for them eliminating the superhero shows. They need to save money and want to retool the DC Universe similar to Marvel.

Eh, I think it's worrying - normally all their shows get renewed in January/February, but this year they've left Dynasty, Charmed, Legends of Tomorrow (cancelled), Batwoman (cancelled), The 4400 (tba, is said to be "dead"), All American: Homecoming, Legacies and Naomi to be decided at a later date. Dynasty's unfortunately in real danger of being cancelled right now, especially considering it's reached 100+ episodes and is still filming, so theoretically they could just tell them not to do a cliffhanger.

I glanced at this thread and I have to say early on in this forum there were so many replies to CW’s Dynasty, in the 1st and 2nd seasons.
Now there seems to be only 2 maybe 3 people replying to the weekly show recaps.
I know it isn’t possible to have night time dramas like they had in the 80’s, or even the 90’s now, especially for the demographic of that network with tick tok attention spans.
This program wasn’t that bad in its first season
Because it was a ensemble cast with a story to tell, Grant, Nathalie and Nicolette had great chemistry together but the retool starting season 2 to make it the Elizabeth Gilles show who’s main claim to fame is being Ariana Grandes bestie wasn’t enough
To translate to viewers or decent storytelling. It just translated to bad ratings to even worse ratings.,Not to mention all the recasting which is telling of what a mess the show is behind the camera
Each episode from season 3 to now is the same formula neurotic Fallons weekly problem to solve ,then one character needs advice from another character then a third character gets involved to give the advice.
Where’s the continuing storytelling, building up tension and drama that goes until the seasons ending?
The acting in this show is abysmal
Elizabeth chews the scenery every scene with no real emotion
Blake might as well be a piece of furniture in the background.
Elaine isn’t horrible but she isn’t good either, she probably fit in with the budget they had to offer. Alexis should have been Elizabeth Hurley but I accepted NS in season 1 and she brought the evil drama.
Michael Michelle’s Dom is more pointless than the original with nothing to do. Naomi Campbell would have been a great dominique but probably would never done this show and they couldn’t have afforded her but just imagine, her, grant and Hurley or even Sheridan at each other’s throats.
All the others are just complete waste of screen time
Sam is a stereotype and an overnight billionaire instead of being scrappy like the character and og was. It may have been too much for the few viewers this show has (the 13 yo tweens) for Sammy to be a gay prostitute to rich men or overly sexual trying to get back into the lavish lifestyle Steven and Celia showed him once they were gone. Culhane is useless plus another overnight billionaire (why again I can’t recall) no drama , he should have died saving Celia season 1 and she survived!!! Kirby is useless, a one season character. She should have OD and Alexis was to blame Adam became a cartoon, Amanda is useless.making her a lesbian took away from anything that character was known for , sleeping with Dex, Moldavia ,at least they could have made her bisexual
Liam can’t act at all and is useless so is Dex.
Steven never existed, Amanda is pointless.
no interactions getting to know her new family no tension between sisters, no questions about her missing brother?
Why the concern about this dreck probably not being renewed is strange to me.
There hasn’t been any moment since mid season 2 that you would feel anything or any of these characters.
This cast doesn’t deserve to be working nor do the show runners and writers.
There’s so much content now in Atlanta that the crew will be fine.

You're right. I was just making clear that the specific shows canceled were for a different reason, which may bode well for Dynasty. I know many were shocked by Riverdale's renewal. Like Dynasty, they have the netflix deal, so maybe things will work out for them. Even if the show does get canceled, five seasons is a good run for a show many thought would get canceled after the first couple seasons.

All the other cancellations seem to have been publicized not by the network but by the individual producers of those shows (telling everyone via social media). The bad news then got picked up by regular media. I've been disappointed by the lack of social-media promotion of Dynasty by its producers, so I fear they may already know the fate of their show and just haven't shared it online. Michael Michele and Liz Gillies do most of the social-media stuff, but they should not be the ones to rely on for such important news.

To be fair it's difficult to participate in a "live" thread when some of us have access to new episodes as they screen in America while others waited for Dynasty to pop up on Netflix, like me. The original deal with Netflix was working really well until Netflix decided stuff that, we'll show the entire series when it completes its first run in America. I'm not sure who thought that was a good idea but it then broke the chain of being able to participate in this thread. TellyTalk has strict rules in regards to bumping old threads so the idea of then returning to an episode which screened months prior wasn't worth the hassle.

I do however understand your criticism of new Dynasty. I had major issues with the first season. Seeing the new Cristal spread out on a desk with her ankles pointing to the heavens was a far cry from original Dynasty...but these are different times. Original Dynasty had the luxury of telling a story in it's first season though for many they thought it was too slow and it was nearly cancelled. Funny now. As I look back on that first season it laid the groundwork before the major upheaval of the arrival of the first wife.

New Dynasty was a complete reversal of that story-telling. Characters were shoved in your face and for most of us it was too confrontational. I like to warm to characters, understand their nuances, good or bad. But again, different times. This series was not targeted to the likes of me, someone who can appreciated a rich soap with characters that have depth.

But just as new Dynasty was finding it's feet towards the final first season with a softening of Cristal those ugly focus groups or bean counters behind the scenes shoved their collective noses in and dispensed with Cristal. Unfortunately that was the beginning of the end. Constant recasts, stories that went nowhere and one actress/character - Fallon - allowed to turn this series into a one woman show.

If new Dynasty is cancelled I doubt - actually I know - this reboot well never be held in the same regard as the original...despite its faults.

He’s probably saving face knowing that this show is getting cancelled,
Melrose place started. 30 years ago and ended over 20.
Everyone needs to eat but it’s too bad he didn’t have the balls of NS and take off years ago when it was turning into the Gilles variety hour
Maybe with both their Alexis and Blake wanting out in season 2 it might have strong armed the producers to reverse the direction it had taken ( the pre teen crap) but probably not, we just would have gotten a new Blake Carrington,
Did Richard and Esther Shapiro really need the cash to green light this trash, they probably have never seen one episode, shame on them.
At least we’ll never hear from any of these “actors” ever again , maybe Michelle Michelle, she’s been around a while but the rest of the cast I seriously doubt they’ll easily find another low rent show to hire them, maybe if there’s another gay stereotype vapid, obnoxious but sexless to not offend anyone role then theres still hope for RAF.

Ah, I see it's already happened. I misinterpreted your "TBA" comment as something that was still in production and would never see the light of day.
I've watched the trailer on youtube and it looks very....remake-ish.
In a world with so much strong competition it really baffles me that the CW can continue to exist.

A Hot dog food fight and now a home shopping network and face cream fiasco , I keep writing that this show post season 1 was being aimed at pre teen girls, ie making it the Liz Gilles variety hour, all the inappropriate singing, comedy skits you can cram in 40 minutes. but this juvenile crap couldn’t even entertain a two year old for one minute.
Watch season 1 and even early season 2,
then come back and try to view 5 minutes of this mess and wonder why it hasn’t been renewed.
The guy who plays michael and Elaine Hendrix should do a master class in all you need to act in a cw show is perfect your constipation face for every scene and emotion you’re trying to relay. Calling either one of them an actor is comical and you can include the ones who play Liam and Kirby( we were graced without her presence this ep)
It wasn’t imaginable season 1 to have an episode without Crystal, she was the center of the show and the plots revolved around her.
You can actually see the embarrassment in grant show being involved in this garbage and now he wants to save face, it’s 3 seasons too late, I guess Nicolette Sheridan made money in the 2000’s with DH and isn’t as desperate
The only reason for anyone being excited to have the character Iris back is her being associated with S1.

In season 4, during the very rare occasions he was given some good material, I was surprised to be rather impressed by Adam Huber's acting. Because he is reduced to be a sparring-partner to Elizabeth Gillies he rarely has something to do but he is actually good, particular during emotional scenes.
