I had forgotten all about that scene but I do remember it now. Kind of telling, huh?
I wonder if they knew at this point how they were writing her out or was that tanker scene just thrown together at the last minute?
I always thought it was a last minute decision after their negotiations with VP fell through. But watching that scene made me think that it might have been planned longer than we think.
I guess it’s always been left to the imagination. I’d like to think Katherine kidnapped her, which means she didn’t run away. I mean why else would Katherine show up to the hospital?
Yeah they did leave it vague. I do find it very suspicious that Katherine showed up before Pam left the hospital so suddenly and only sent a note to Bobby asking him not to look for her if he loved her. It does resemble the last fake letter she read for Bobby that caused their first divorce. So I think there was definitely room to have had Katherine kidnap Pam and it's sort of a shame they didn't go down that route on the show. It would have been easy to bring Pam back if they'd used that explaination.
I´m re-watching Season 12 (13) at this moment, and the chemistry between James and Cally is clearly there, and as soon as she tells somebody how kind James is, they immediately suspect of them (JR, April, Lucy...). I think they intended to do something like that, but they changed it at the last minute (nothing new here). Maybe it was because Cathy Podewell got pregnant?
Good observation. Maybe that played a part since it's possible Cathy wanted out of the show like Sheree did after she got pregnant. Or maybe it had nothing to do with that and they simply decided to bring in a new love interest for James instead of pairing him up with Cally. I think bringing in Michelle for James makes sense because that way they gave April a sister and it also made James more likable than if he'd stolen his father's wife. If you see what I mean?
I can’t recall a scene of April being motherly with Christopher to be honest, whereas with Pam and Christopher there were so many. I think that might’ve been part of the problem with April and Bobby.
I can remember two. One scene April and Bobby took Christopher and a girl on a double date to the roller skating court.
Another scene where Bobby and April were announcing their engagment Christopher is sitting in April's lap and is all happy he is getting a new mommy.
Strange how the writers didn't even understand their own characters. Putting aside Victoria had given notice her intention of leaving Dallas you would think the writers would create some finality to the character of Pam simply because she would never have abandoned Christopher. We all took Pam, Bobby and Christopher's journey. With hindsight it would have been best if Pam had died in that fiery crash.
Or it would have made more sense for Pam to leave Southfork and take Christopher with her as she left. She has done that before.
But I agree that it made no sense for Pam to abandon her son.
I'm glad they didn't kill Pam off though, as it makes it possible to bring her back in fanfics.
But yes I would also prefer Bobby, Pam and Christopher to have left Southfork together. Even though a part of me is starting to wonder if Bobby and Pam were meant to be a tragic lovestory without a happy ending. After all they were modelled after Romeo and Juliet. So which one do you prefer a happy ending for Bobby and Pam or a tragic one?
I think I would have prefered the happy ending. But then again I am a sucker for those!
I was just watching the episode where Pam leaves Southfork with Christopher after her mother’s death. It’s such a sad thing to see them separate like that. Did any of you feel Pam was justified in blaming Bobby and the fight for Ewing Oil for her mother’s death or did you not see it that way and felt perhaps it was Rebecca’s own fault for getting involved in the fight?
Interesting question. I remember thinking Pam was stupid to leave Bobby and take Christopher with her. He understood she needed to get away from Southfork and he offered to come with her and support her. But she rejected him. She wanted to be alone. I get that Pam was in grief and she wasn't thinking to clearly at that point. But yes her moving out and not letting Bobby come with them was harsh. It was basically all Pam's decision of getting a divorce at first. She left Bobby and she filed for the divorce. He had no say in any of it and was just trying to win her back until Katherine's letter made him realize that it was better if he let her go...
It's ironic though since if he hadn't given up on them after the letter he would have had Pam and Christopher back at Southfork a lot sooner and the divorce would never have happened. Yes I know their divorced is set up in a way that is meant to make us root for that Bobby and Pam should get back together since they never wanted to get divorce and never would have if JR and Katherine hadn't meddled. But at the same time Pam choose to leave Bobby and that was before JR and Katherine started to meddle.
Pam was a massive hypocrite during the fight for Ewing Oil. She always stood up for Cliff when he was the one that started most of the trouble. Also after Rebecca passed away, she kept looking after Cliff cause Rebecca asked her to in the will if I remember correctly. What was wrong with Bobby doing the same thing? Bobby was also trying to make sure that Christopher got his fair share of the company as well. J.R. would have never stopped at just having 51 percent, he would have wanted 100 percent.
I agree with you. Pam was blind when it came to Cliff's faults. She thought her older brother could do no wrong. It took her until her final season to realize that Cliff and JR were both responsible for carrying on their father's feud and wanting no part of it. So she bowed out of the company. Maybe she wouldn't have if she wasn't leaving the show. Or what do you think?
I also think it's intersting how Cliff made peace with Miss Ellie and Bobby offered Cliff to work with him after Pam left. It was like the writers were telling us that without Pam and Bobby to be stuck in the middle of the fued, there was no point of carrying on the Ewing-Barnes feud so the only way they could keep Cliff tied to the Ewings was for him to make peace with them.
