Dallas Couples Bobby & Pam - Appreciation thread

Well that was not all Bobby did. He also hired a call girl to seduce I think his name was Hicks, and then he blackmailed the man.

I think the Ewing-Barnes feud was pointless once Pam left since they didn't have anyone stuck in the middle of it anymore. I think that is why they had Cliff make peace with Miss Ellie and Bobby.
Thanks for the reminder, I skipped around on my latest re-watch cause I can't stand Pornstache.

That’s a good example of how much the fight for Ewing Oil had changed him in Pam’s eyes. Actually it’s only about a few minutes later after he tells her about Hicks that she finds out about her mother’s plane crash so that had to be the last straw for her in deciding to leave.

We know how his role in Ewing Oil had him doing some questionable things for the company pre-Pam but that was before they were married so she didn’t care about that so much. And then once they were married she got him to come off the road and work in the office anyway. So she knew he wasn’t always a terrific person but she figured that part of his life and doing those things was over.

Another interesting story to show how much the fight for Ewing Oil had consumed him though was Walt Driscoll. Granted Bobby was trying to stop J.R. from doing something illegal but setting up Driscoll the way he did by putting weapons in his briefcase so he couldn’t board the plane was not a Bobby thing to do. That was definitely more of a J.R. thing to do. And of course it led to so many other problems for everyone, including Mickey’s accident and Walt’s suicide. I’m not blaming Bobby for all of that cause that would be unfair and this was all after Pam had already left him but I think it illustrates how the fight over the company had changed him. I wonder if Pam knew about his role in setting up Driscoll? My bet is he never told her and it’s a good thing he didn’t cause it wouldn’t have helped him win her back. His defense would’ve been I did it to stop J.R. but her reply would’ve been you succeeded in stopping him but the irony is in doing so you’ve become just like him.

@DallasFanForever, there is a scene in the episode Crash of 83 between Bobby&Pam where Pam tells Bobby that he isn’t the man that she married right before they find out that Rebecca was injured in a plane crash. You can tell how much that they still love each other in this particular scene even though Pam hates what has happened to Bobby during the fight for control of Ewing Oil. Pam just wants man she married back and not the one who will do anything to get Ewing Oil away from JR.

That’s such a sad scene! I like how she chastised him and said he wasn’t going to get any sympathy out of her. I guess you can’t blame her for feeling the way she did. I do understand that Bobby was fighting for what he felt would rightfully belong to Christopher someday but the fight changed him to the point where I think Pam was right. He wasn’t the same man.

And yet having said all that she still went to Thanksgiving Square a few months later to tell him she was willing to try again! So it’s obvious she never stopped loving him but of course at that point J.R. and Katherine had meddled to the point where they couldn’t get back together.

I haven’t seen this scene in awhile so I’m going by memory here but I remember him confronting her about it and her saying she stood by what she did. And then he tells her he understood why she did it so I don’t think he was mad, was he?i could be wrong but I think he was just a little agitated at first and then once they talked about it he understood it more cause she did it out of love.

Again, I haven’t watched this season in awhile but I believe you are correct. She did make some reference to the baby being better off with her and Bobby because of all they could give it. I love Jenna’s facial expressions during this scene by the way.

You could be right on this one but I never got that impression until much later. I’m really not sure if the writers knew what they were doing with Bobby after Pam left to be honest. It just seemed like he was bouncing all around from Tammy to Kay to Tracy to April to Jeanne so I don’t know at one point it was decided to go with April. I wouldn’t say it was right after Pam left anyway. I think later.
Bobby wasn't angry with Pam over saying that she'd like to take Jenna's baby. I think he was more concerned about her.

I’m not sure if we’ve discussed this before on this thread and I’m too lazy right now to go back and check but I’ve been watching some episodes of season 7 (8 DVD) and I have to say that despite this season getting a bad wrap at times for a lot of things that were starting to go wrong with the show, I do enjoy Bobby and Pam the most this season. I actually think it’s their best season together with some of their greatest scenes. Their scenes in Deliverance, The Ewing Connection, Swan Song, etc, just to name a few. Does anyone agree or is there a season where you actually enjoy them more?

@DallasFanForever, I love Bobby&Pam during season 7 season 8 DVD as well. :)That is my favorite season for them even though I really love them during the mini series of Dallas as newlyweds. :);)
The miniseries would be my second choice, and a very close second. I love seeing them as newlyweds, especially the opening scenes in Diggers Daughter and the first Barbecue episode.

And I have to say that even though it’s their saddest season, I do love watching them in season 6 also. Their scenes together are great throughout the season, especially after they’re divorced and you can see how much they still love one another despite being with other people.

I agree that the end of Season 08 DVD are some of the best Bobby/Pam scenes. I also love their scenes in the mini-series and first full season. I prefer Pam when she was stronger like she was at first. I am also glad that Bobby got Southfork instead of J.R. because he would have tried to get the mineral rights in his name only so he can drill the oil unchallenged. Southfork itself wasn't the problem for Bobby and Pam, it was the fighting of Cliff and J.R. with help from Katherine.

I've always had a soft spot for season ten. Probably because they were finally reunited again and got remarried. We had been waiting to see that.
It's just too bad it only lasted a season. :(

I also love the mini-series. The show was very focused around Bobby & Pam at the very beginning and I liked how Pam was such a strong character to start with. It was nice to see her stand up to Lucy and try to discipline her. I think she saw a lot of herself in Lucy since she'd also grown up more or less without her parents. So she took her underneath her wings and she cared.

I enjoy them in season ten as well. I love their second wedding but I think them living at Southfork again stretched credibility. I don’t think Pam would’ve gone back to live there, not even for Bobby. I would’ve preferred them having their own place the second time around but of course that would’ve hurt the show.

It felt like it was over way too quickly. It’s so sad looking back now and realizing we were watching their last scenes together.

Totally agree! Pam looking after Lucy the way she did is what I think took her from an outsider to part of the family in the eyes of Miss Ellie, Jock and eventually even Lucy herself. She really had no reason to care about Lucy the way she did other than wanting to help her and I think it was appreciated by most of the family. It’s a shame they never shared a scene together again once Pam left Southfork.

I agree it would have made more sense for Bobby to move into Pam's house and live there with his family.
But Christopher was happy to move back to Southfork because "they have horses and everything!"
So I guess Pam figured it was better for Christopher to live at Southfork with his grandparents.

Wow! I never realized that Lucy and Pam didn't share any scenes together after Pam moved out of Southfork. That is odd.

I guess I can see why she decided to move back to Southfork when I look at it that way. Plus it reunited Christopher with John Ross and Pam with Sue Ellen.

It was just odd for me seeing Pam back there at first after everything that happened leading up to when she left. But it was a couple of years later at that point.

Last night I watched the scene where Bobby comforted Christopher in the middle of the night while Pam was in Hong Kong searching for Mark from the episode Trial and Error. :):(Bobby should have taken Christopher and gone to Hong Kong to see Pam since his son was asking for his mom. ;) :) JR could have handled Jenna and her murder case since he liked her so much.;)

I love that scene. Poor little Christopher was always getting moved around a lot though. Between staying in hotels, getting dropped off at Southfork or staying over Jenna’s house, the kid must’ve been very confused sometimes.

I watched the episode Fools Rush In earlier tonight. :) I felt so bad for Pam at the end of that episode when she found out from Dr Kenderson that Mark was dying from leukemia since she had decided not to marry him because she was still in love with Bobby. :(
I was always amazed at how easily Pam persuaded Jerry to tell her about Mark’s condition, considering breaking that confidentiality could cost him his license. I guess a determined Pam was not someome to be messed with.

That actually happens quite often when one of the Ewing, including Pam, wanted information. They didn’t take no for an answer. Lol
