Dallas Couples Bobby & Pam - Appreciation thread

Then at the end we have Jock who begs Pam not to alienate Bobby from his family
I guess I’m glad they stayed or we wouldn’t have a show but I will admit to yelling at the TV for them to get out of there every time I see this scene.

Oh yeah I've done my fair share of yelling at the TV too. I don't know why I've done that since it's not like the characters could hear me anyway. But oh well I guess I did it more often when I was a teen and in my early 20s.

Also topic for discussion, if Pam had stayed on the show for one more season, what storyline would you have given to Bobby and Pam for the 87/88 season?

Yeah I would also have wanted to see them have another child. I think I read in an interview once that VP had apparently suggested they'd do a storyline about a surrogate pregnancy where Bobby and Pam could have a baby through a surrogate mother. I think that is a rather interesting idea even though Dynasty of course did something similar with Adam & Dana in the 87/88 season.

I’ve never heard this before. I find it kind of intriguing as well. This could’ve definitely been a good storyline for them to do.

Another possible storyline (had Pam stayed for that 87-88 season) is I would’ve liked to have seen them move into their own house. Yes, I know that has the potential to really hurt the show had they moved away from Southfork but they could keep making frequent visits so the fighting could continue. The tension would always be there. I just would’ve liked to have seen them in their own home for once, something we never got the chance to see.

I would have liked to see anyone of them have their own house. It just seemed so unrealistic.

I think it would have made more sense if Bobby had moved into Pam's house when they got remarried. But then again a lot of the drama came from them all living at Southfork. I mean if you removed someone from the house their role was disminished. Just think of Lucy and Mitch. They were off in their own apartment in town and hardly ever interacted with the Ewings after they were married. So for the sake of the drama it was better to keep them living like that. Also in some cultures it is more common that several generations are living together. So I think that the Ewings lived like that made it easier for people in the middle East and southern Europe to identify with them. The show was really a family drama.

I love the idea of Bobby&Pam living in their own home with Christopher after getting remarried but I don’t think Miss Ellie would have approved of that at all. :):(Miss Ellie really did love having her whole family living at Southfork even though Bobby&Pam, and JR&Sue Ellen marriages eventually fell apart due to all of the stress of living at Southfork during the fight for control of Ewing Oil. :):(

That could've worked if they had actually kept Steve Forrest on the show as Jock. Bobby and Pam could've moved out along with JR and Sue Ellen. Ellie bickering with Clayton eventually choosing Jock. Jock moves into Southfork and Clayton moves out too. The family seems to be splitting up over Jock's return, then Jock goes to see both Bobby and Pam and JR and Sue Ellen separately. Over the course of the season both couples come to realise that Wes really is Jock all along and they grow closer culminating in both couples returning to Southfork. The season ends on Clayton having a nervous breakdown with Ellie feeling guilt ridden! :)

Yes! All of those rich people living under one roof was unrealistic to me too at times.

I think it would have made more sense if Bobby had moved into Pam's house when they got remarried.
This was what I wanted to see at the time. I thought it made perfect sense for them to do this so as to stay away from the meddling Ewings. And considering how Pam felt, I found it very unrealistic that she would live under the same roof as JR again. But as you say, it would’ve hurt the drama.

I have to agree! She really didn’t like her family moving out and moving on for the most part.

That could've worked if they had actually kept Steve Forrest on the show as Jock. Bobby and Pam could've moved out along with JR and Sue Ellen.
Had the Wes storyline ended up going that way I wonder if that could’ve happened? That might’ve been enough to finally break up the family and cause people to move out.

I recently watched the episode Legacy. :) It was so sad to see Pam walk out on Bobby and take Christopher with her during the fight for control of Ewing Oil. :( That was excellent storyline on Original Dallas but I hate that Bobby&Pam split up because of the fight for control of Ewing Oil. :):(

I don’t think they ever should’ve been split up. Divorcing them made for great drama but to me it went against the entire premise of their relationship. It was always the “us against the world” mentality with Bobby and Pam and sadly we lost that.

Granted, some of their best scenes together happened when they were divorced but I think it would’ve been better to just separate them for awhile and then put them back together after the fire. Just my opinion.
