Bobby's resurrection must be tied to Angelica Nero...

Snarky Oracle!

Telly Talk Supreme
Can you envision how Bobby's resurrection would be tied into Angelica Nero's rambling and byzantine storyline --- ideally, in order to make both of them just make more sense.

Any ideas?

That always made sense to me.

OR

Mark and Jerry Kendersen at Grayson research. All that medical technology, they could have made Bobby appear dead (even fake a flat line) and have had his badly injured body locked up in a private hospital for a year.

Either way, it would have been better than the idiotic dream solution.

Yes, why not?
Major characters returning are a key ingredient in orime time siaps, can't get enough of it (if not done with a dream).

JR could have gotten a call that Bobby is in a hospital in the Caribbean waking up from a coma. It must be someone with lots of power and money behind it to get an adcantage on the Ewings- so basically every cast nember at that point.
I would have loved to keep the solution open till the season's end.
Possible suspects:
Mark Graison & Jerry Kenderson
Katherine (who faked her death the same way)
Lady Jessica
or someone else I basically don't mind.

or for a short term explanation:
Angelica Nero who kept Bobby as a back-up in case anything went wrong with her initial plans. She now uses that to force JR to keep her out of prison.

I don't mind the details/flaws, like Katznan & Co. at that point.

I tend to vote that Katherine hired Angelica to kill Ewings through an anonymous employ-an-assassin connection through Europe and the orient, and when Katherine (who just can't wait) kills Bobby herself (while she's trying to kill Pam) Nero's team of assassins move in to Texas anyway because they have no idea the woman who'd contracted their services, Katherine, was now dead.

The entire stupid Marinos-Martinique plot was an elaborate scheme to get JR and as many Ewings as possible out of the country to knock 'em off, thus making an easier exit for Angelica had things gone as planned.

Bobby was hidden away, comatose for a while and not expected to survive, eventually recuperating. Miss Ellie was made aware by somebody -- Interpol?, the FBI? -- that a conspiracy was afoot, and she had the burden of keeping Bobby's survival a secret until the Nero plot and its danger was over. Even Bobby's will was probated with IRS cooperation.

JR's private eye was found in a hotel room with a knitting needle through his neck. "Perhaps he learned somethin' somebody didn't want him to know," federal lawmen observe.

Jamie left the car to idle and wasn't in it when it blew up. The bomb in JR's office was on the other side of his desk from Sue Ellen, so she just has to wear a bandage on the right side of her face for a couple of installments.

Donna finds out she's pregnant again as the Krebbs learn they're losing custody of Tony after all because of ... reasons. Donna moves back into Southfork.

Bobby, now healthy and aware Pam married Mark the day before, shows up at Jenna's door unannounced. Jenna is apoplectic, pulls Bobby into her room and closes the door, raping Bobby off-camera. She's impregnated but we won't know for a few weeks.

Angry, JR has to re-buy up the parts of Ewing Oil he thought he'd acquired before Bobby turned out to be quite alive, negating those sales. JR asks Harve if he can sue, but Harve cites some precedent that won't work in JR's favor, assures JR that a lawsuit will be time-consuming, expensive and ultimately fruitless -- especially since the feds were in on the thing.

And if we need to change Stivers' name to Parmalee, Wes can approach Ray and Clayton for the foreman job but simultaneously concede that he'd lied about his name because of previous problems ("men err after me") and volunteers to quit and leave Southfork for misrepresenting himself. But Ray and Clayton, impressed by Wes' seeming eleventh-hour candor (in the way real men do) ask him to stay and give him the job. If anything, they now trust Parmalee even more than they did before!

All of which happens in the first episode.

And the shower? Well, the episode opens with a shot of the pink tile in Pam's bath, the camera pans down and Mark is dead on the floor by the drain.

At episode's end, Bobby leaves Jenna at Southfork once he hears on the TV that Mark Graison is dead. Pam goes to her bedroom door, opens it, sees Bobby, shakes her head in quiet disbelief and closes it again. Freeze frame on Bobby's darkened face.

Episode 2 opens up on a different kind of explanatory scene between Bobby & Pam in her bedroom: she realizes she saw Bobby in the crowd on the sidewalk across the street from her massive wedding the previous day, only registering on her subliminally. That and the shock of finding Mark dead in the shower caused her to momentarily hallucinate the image of Bobby, ever-so-briefly lathering up.

And now the '86/87 season is off and running.

In fact, later, when Wes Parmalee claims to be Jock publicly, Harve can warn the boys that Bobby's revival several months earlier can be used against them -- if not in court than in the court of public opinion -- because it's now established that the Ewings execute wills of family members they know to still be alive. (With a lot of, "... but Harve!!..."s from Bobby and JR).

Imperfect? Perhaps, but is all this so much worse than how they actually did it??

I've always liked that kind of manipulation.

I think tying Bobby’s resurrection to Angelica makes a lot of sense. That long, drawn out boring mess of a storyline needed a much bigger payoff. I’ve always said that Angelica was not the problem. The story was. It was all over the place from the start and never really made a whole lot of sense.

Angelica kidnapping a comatose Bobby and using him as her trump card in the end would’ve been much better than what they did. It validates the Marinos Shipping storyline, which isn’t easy. I would still keep the other cliffhangers Angelica was responsible for (Jamie and Sue Ellen) but instead of Pam finding Bobby in the shower we cut to Angelica now in custody. She gets to make her one phone call and she calls a faraway island somewhere and asks if he is still alive. She’s assured he is and then after she hangs up we see that the he is Bobby. That’s how I would freeze frame the season.

The best idea? Maybe not. It might not even be the best idea I’ve read so far on this thread but I like it over the Dream.

Although I'm not sure I'd have Nero personally kidnap Bobby as that might be one Machiavellian step too far.
It could be overkill (no pun intended). I like the suggestion of Katherine being involved in all of this somehow. Of course that would mean she didn’t die either. That might be overdoing it as well but Katherine being behind Angelica’s arrival does make a lot of sense.

t Katherine being behind Angelica’s arrival does make a lot of sense.
Katherine, already on the lam for shooting Bobby a year ago, could have hired Angelica anonymously through some shadowy hitman biz overseas, Katherine never realizes that she herself would wind up killing Bobby before Angelica and her team have time to go after the Ewings.

Angela has no idea her faceless sponsor is dead.

Meanwhile, the feds keep a comatose Bobby on lockdown, aware there's an international plot abrewin'.

Sorry but I don't understand the reason why keeping Bobby in the coma if Angelica had been hired to kill him ? She would have finished Katherine's job instead.

I also don't see how Bobby could have been kidnapped while in the coma since he quickly "died" after he got hospitalized.

The only version that could have worked if that Bobby had faked his death with the help of someone. J.R. would be the most obvious partner in crime.
But he would be a HUGE retcon to have J.R. actually aware of Angelica's actions and have Bobby abroad in order to find something about Angelica in order to frame her before she could destroy the Ewings.

It would be probably not have been as destructive as the dream's explanation but it would have harmed Dallas' reputation anyway.

Because Angelica had been hired to kill other Ewings, not just Bobby.

I'm not for the kidnapping scenario, either.

That's what I'm saying: Bobby flatlined, was revived, and then hidden away (with federal governmental intel assistance -- whatever that is) until he emerges from the coma, goes through rehab, and Nero and her team are captured.

It would be probably not have been as destructive as the dream's explanation but it would have harmed Dallas' reputation anyway.

Not my version. I don't think so... Of all the far-fetchedy explanations offered up (including the dream) it's the only one which would make any sense.

David Jacobs said that had he been in charge, he would have used a different explanation than the dream. We can only guess which scenario he would have chosen, but I'd wager it might have been something closer to mine than Uncle Lenny's.

Yes, Paulsen has defended The Dream, but he seems to be a company man and is careful about his comments regarding management. But had he been running DALLAS himself, he -- like Jacobs -- would never have used it.

I'm not sure to understand correctly : Bobby would have been hidden from Angelica (by the FBI of whatever) or by Angelica herself ?

The first version is surely more logical but still not plausible enough for me since Bobby's "death" was not orchestrated by the FBI like Gary's death in Knots Landing.
Since Bobby have been unexpectedly attacked by Katherine, I don't see how the FBI could have find the time to do something. It's not like if Bobby had been in the coma for a few hours/day. He died very quickly after he was brought to the hospital.

I also wish Barbara Carrera returned in the next season. She could be Andrea Barrett that Pam met off screen through Mark. She is approached by J.R. to get her tanker. Andrea lures Wendell into marriage. He dies suddenly, and she takes over Westar. There'd be no McKay. The Ewings would fight her. J Lo is her daughter Tracy. Lou Diamond Philips returns as her son Tommy.

In my scenario, Angelica would have nothing to do with Bobby directly.

The feds/Interpol/ColonelSanders would have already become aware of Katherine's hiring of a let's-kill-the-Ewings hit team prior to Bobby's death. With that in mind, the gov't moves to hide Bobby away as soon as he flatlines. Miss Ellie is informed and kept it silent for months.

We don't know how long he was dead, how quickly he was revived, or how long he was comatose. But TPTB were monitoring the situation.

You can explain it in one episode.

It still seems like choosing to be poked in the eye with a dull stick rather than a sharp stick. If we're going to engage in revisionism fantasy, then why not fix the actual issue? Patrick Duffy should never have left DALLAS, Bobby never should have died, and all of the other nonsense wouldn't be necessary.

I'll stick to it till I die: the problem with the Dream solution was execution more than concept. But I also admit to being biased: I loathe everything about the Dream season* and I'm happy to see it all tossed. They should have burned the film.

*Except some of the early Sue Ellen stuff.

Semi-logically, if they used the dream explanation, then it should have been Bobby's dream since he's the one who flatlined -- but, noooooooooo, Lenny had to hand blame off to the nearest ex-wife nobody at Lorimar really liked all that much.

I don't like Peter Dunne's smug dream season either, for all the obvious objective reasons. But I can accept that it happened, and that the family were just behaving loopily in the wake of Bobby's death. And, yes, end it and get the Dunne writers off the lot and bring back Paulsen, Katzman and Duffy.

But not the way they did it, dismissing a bad year through a two minute scene which is still reviled as The Jump the Shark moment in all of TV history.

And as crap as the dream season indeed was, was what Katzman did in the last three years of DALLAS really any better -- especially once Paulsen was gone??

That does have a nice WIZARD OF OZ vibe to it. But, it goes back to the lack of strategic planning at the time. If I'm not mistaken, they tossed Duffy in the shower as the cliffhanger and then decided to figure out how he got there.

I say it was Pam's hallucination, in response to subconsciously seeing Bobby in the crowd across the street at her wedding, and Mark Graison's dead body at her feet.

Perfect? Maybe not. But a girl can only take so much trauma before she starts audio-visually decompensating.
