Shame that Katzman preferred the Spelling-esque flat-lighting because he saw DALLAS as "a cartoon" (as did Larry, by his own admission).

Cinematography -- like music score, direction, writing, editing, and acting -- contribute to the texture of the thing, and its relative sense of "reality". Which is important, even for -- perhaps especially for a "soap."

Bradford May's camerawork in Season 7 (dvd) does so much to make life at Southfork feel so palpably three-dimensional, the Hollywood studio shot interior scenes far more convincing as occurring in Texas than any other period of the show. The sense of place is so much stronger. Even the silences are somehow "louder."

Emotional subtext is an actual thing, and it's not just an artistically pretentious concept.

Homefront was the best of all David Jacobs' creations, better than Dallas and Knots Landing in terms of script and plot development. Obviously we all here are more ... 'in love' with Dallas for many other reasons.
I've always found it interesting that of the main supersoaps, Knots was the least like Dallas. I don't like to compare the two but if I must I think my screen name makes it clear which way I fall.
BTW, Homefront was created by Knots writers Lynn Marie Latham and Bernard Lechowick, although David Jacobs did executive produce it with them.

Yes, it's just the normal thing, nothing HD there. In Sheree J. Wilsons credit you can even still see those video disturebance stripes on the right side.
This is no different than watching the old DVDs with a Blurayplayer, SD upscaled with all it's flaws.

The credit font they used for the last seasons is really VERY ugly, that looks horrible. They should have created those opening credits still on film back then, that at least those would still look fine. :(
