It Has To Be Said, Pam Was Nothing More Than A Pretty Opportunist.

Ahh that old chestnut, Linda's friendship with Larry and Patrick. I actually admire that long friendship regardless of the reasons. Would you prefer all of them to be enigmatic like Victoria? I'm so glad they're not.

Linda suffered a lot of prevarication? Just her? Like what? Of course you know all the others always speak the truth and say exactly what they think.

VP and BBG couldn't stand them? Get real! I think they all got on well professionally which is admirable even if they weren't close off screen. From what I gather Linda was close to Barbara (yes I know VP claimed to be too) There's plenty of off set photos with Linda and Barbara together. Doesn't mean much I know but I see what I see.

Not everyone believes that Pam/Victoria is an eternal paragon of virtue.

@Jock Ewing Fan
I'm sure neither Susan or Steve would dish any gossip about their co stars, maybe there isn't anything much. Susan of course spoke about the dream season and how she knew that was the beginning of the end, also spoke not so fondly of Larry regarding Donna Reed.

@Snarky Oracle!
Not on this particular thread but on others Donna has indeed been "beaten upon" and her acting has been described with words I don't wish to repeat but I can appreciate that's their views.

Perhaps some do feel they're trying to be silenced, it's not victim claiming. It can take confidence to voice and challenge an opinion and we're all different in how we respond to those who don't agree.

Certainly many actors had dignity and perhaps a more open and social character than VP and BBG, but those others could compromise for different reasons.

Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy often for money, Linda Gray instead to live in harmony with others, although as we learned many years later, she suffered a lot of prevarications.

VP and BBG couldn't stand them.

Thats so not true, BBG was friendly with Victoria Principal who adored her and Linda Gray

There is a lovely interview with Linda Gray and she said her closest female friend on the show was Barbara

When they were filming in Dallas they would go out for cocktails and they would gossip and bitch about this and that (as females do)

I once wrote to Linda Gray asking her about BBG and her reply was I adored her - and that was reciprocated by Barbara

Maybe this was a false rumor, I don't know... but these statements were widespread in 1984-1985.

Its so NOT true, it musty have been in that gospel of truth....... the National Enquirer- Howard Keel was way too much of a gentleman to reveal anything like that and when I saw him in concert in ? May 1985 and he said his original wife was coming back the whole audience cheered

I get the impression that that's true. Victoria once mentioned something about chili tasting competitions between herself, BBG and Mary Crosby (and, yes, they seem like they'd get along).

And BBG said, somewhat believably, I thought, that she really did think of Linda as a daughter.

But then Victoria has admitted that the core cast got on "like any family" -- some bad moments mixed in with the good.

My instinct is that Howard Keel, although he liked Barbara and even called her a "cute" woman, probably took to Donna Reed's prissy femininity in the same way Katzman did. But Keel also has to rationalize Reed's exit and the reasons for it, navigating around the politics of it.

I wonder how much of a role Paulsen may have had in nudging Lenny into pushing Reed out and re-embracing Bel Geddes. But it's just a thought...

I never said Barbara Bel Geddes didn't love Linda Gray. However, she (BBG) had little contact with the rest of the cast off camera, like Victoria Principal.

VP defended herself by saying that the other actors already had spouses and children at the start of filming, while she was "almost" single.

From wikipedia:

"Her first marriage was to writer-producer Christopher Skinner, whom she met in 1978 when he played a bit acting part on Dallas. The couple wed soon after beginning their relationship; however, they filed for divorce two years later in 1980,[50] it was finalized in 1981.[51]"

Almost single?

People have lives outside their (acting) job, if only to maintain a healthy balance, and it doesn't matter if they're single or married.
I'm sure she wouldn't brusquely hang up the phone in case another Dallas actor called her, or tell them to "f**k off!"

The interview with Victoria exists and those were her words, as she was not the first years of Dallas constantly married and having no children. The "almost" means this.

Otherwise, I'm a fan of Victoria and Barbara... not a detractor of them. I don't care about anything else... Thanks.

Just clarification purposes.
Sometimes, VP misspoke, it seems
I remember that there was something with Joan Rivers.
Can't remember where I read this, but supposedly she told a cast member
"welcome to my show' when Dallas began filming.

I don't think anything will ever equal the first 3 years of the show.

People who are married with kids are indeed in a completely different place in their lives than their co-workers who are single without kids, they are busy raising their families. So of course the married castmates on Dallas were going to socialize with each other instead of Victoria because they had more in common. Barbara was a widow with grown kids at that point and would have more in common with Victoria, so that is likely why they were closer.
