I also thought Lance's best season was the second and his worst was five.
I didn't think the writers could screw Lance any harder than the Apollonia storyline, but then came Pilar.Oh yeah the season of Apollonia Kotero. Would the Lance of previous seasons really have went on tour with her?Somehow I don't think so. Then again he traded 'The New Globe' for KRDC.
Fixx was ok his first season, but once his sister and all of that came on the scene.. Yeah, Lance did a fine job of kind of being Cole and his own character in those last few years. Her name was Dina, and—incidentally, this is a bit off-topic—she’s the Falcon Crest character I tend to forget the most, even though she was on the show longer than Lorraine or Apollonia. During my last rewatch, I realized I had completely forgotten how she left the show. It was essentially Falcon Crest’s version of Mickey Trotter’s death, though it didn't come across with quite the same emotional depth. Does anyone know if it’s true that Robin Greer was written out simply because her relationship with Lorenzo Lamas fell apart, making it difficult for the exes (or maybe just for him?) to play an on-screen couple? It's weird in my case because I didn't originally start turning in, or paying attention in real time until season 7. From that point forward, Lance didn't seem like that bad of a guy, outside of the cheating on Melissa with Nina(was it?). and that might have even been as far back as season 6.
Getting to know the Lance of the later seasons before the Lance of the early seasons must have been an interesting experience. For me, the older Lance was the perfect heir to Falcon Crest; he had put his wild years behind him and was ready to take on responsibility. I was glad the season 9 writing team didn't turn him into an evil Lance; the worst thing he did that season was probably getting a tattoo during his bizarre trip to Mexico. It was interesting then to years later watch the 1st season version of Lance. I don't know. I'm not sure which version of him I like best. We certainly didn't need two Cole like characters, and I am more of a Lance fan than a Cole fan. Just more interesting to watch. However, is someone like the early Lance someone I'd want to know in real life? Nah..
