Wait! What? Has one of those junior writers been reading this forum. I'm sure I had set up a similar scene in some post regarding Alexis ambushing a funeral service at the Church. I want my royalties.
It's so... Camp. But like it's trying to be camp. I don't have a problem with natural camp. Original Alexis' entrance was camp, but really it wasn't trying to be. It was just Joan's natural diva-ness and Nolan Miller that made it camp. The scene was totally played straight. In fact Joan's Alexis mostly played it straight, even when she was dressed up like a Christmas tree and bewigged to the heavens. I think when these shows set out to be camp then they become a total mess. Like when Raquel Welch came on CPW and nobody cared because she was sauntering about trying to be Joan Collins but just couldn't touch her.
It's what I've been arguing now for a long while. I wonder, given the mood that seems to be prevailing America right now and in other parts of the world, if Dynasty 2.0 should have taken a darker path to reflect that mood. This version is not what I call escapism television.
I agree Willie. Credit to the stylist for that minor detail as it adds to the feel of her arrival. The problem I have is when Alexis opens her mouth. The dialogue was woeful. Just sometimes the less is more approach can work wonders. I understand in the original series Joan Collins had yet to be cast in the role but what makes that courtroom scene work is how the character of Alexis sashays through the room and we don't hear a word from her. It just makes the anticipation for the following season so much greater.
And then when Alexis does speak Joan acts the shit out of what is basically a monologue. She's blazes through the script playing up every word and she looks stunning while she does it.
It's probably just letting off steam.
Alexis couldn't call Dominique a black bitch, maybe this time they should do it? "Who do you think you are, you cheap nacho tramp?"
