The pool is so far away! People never would have been falling into the pool had they stayed in this house. No one would have wanted to walk that far.
And this is exactly why I like when they film on location. Texas history that I would not expect a writer or producer to realize.

Why is the pool so far away? I'm glad you asked.

Imagine the Box Ranch. The main house (the mansion) is built and a family moves in. As the ranch prospers, a circle driveway is installed to make it easier to access the stalls.

Good things happen, and a large, detached garage is built.

The ranch grows, and a house is built for the ranch foreman. (Think Ray Krebbs).

Times are good, as evidenced by the tennis court being built.

And finally, there is enough money and enough desire that a swimming pool is constructed. Which is fine, but because of all the previous construction, the only place to build the pool is way off in the corner of the property.

By shooting on location, these very accurate details are (accidentally) observed.

Thank you for posting those pics-- they tell a story by themselves.

Here's my eh...bonus review for the real episode 4.

I had already noticed that JR and Ray are getting along just fine, but that was before he became his half-brother, of course.
They spent the night out of town with some female "friends" - one of them is a married woman, which makes it a juicy double-adultery.
The husband and brother find out that it was JR Ewing who has been entertaining the woman named Wanda, and now they want revenge.

At the same time, the east of Texas is being plagued by a storm, and I must say it looks very convincing.

Frick and Allen pose as unlucky but friendly strangers and that's how they manage to get inside the house.
Lucy is very amused by the younger man, she's such a compulsive flirt.
The situation changes completely when they reveal their dastardly intentions and of course that's when the phone rings.
Not only is Pam the romantic lead, she's also the smartest cookie.

"JR and I are going to play backgammon" - which serves as a clue that there's something strange going on.

At the end of all this, Sue Ellen sashays out of the room with what's left of her dignity.

The score used for this scene is an interesting choice, it's a soapy variant on the Spaghetti Western.

(I accidentally rammed on the "enter" button, hence my edited post)

I’ve got an idea:

Change the series to Valene Ewing’s Capricorn Crude Series within the Dallas Universe (did she publish as Valene Ewing?):

1st Miniseries = Capricorn Crude

Early Years = Capricorn Crude: Beginnings

Dallas Season 9 on =
9 = Capricorn Crude: This Has to be A Nightmare

10 = Capricorn Crude: JR, Public Enemy Number One

11 = Capricorn Crude: Sue Ellen’s Revenge

12 = Capricorn Crude: The Last Ride of Sue Ellen Ewing and Her Immortals

13 = Capricorn Crude: JR’s Past Final Catches Up With Him

14 = Capricorn Crude: JR Gets His Comeuppance (no one is smiling more than Val at the end of this one).

Movies =
Capricorn Crude: JR Returns

Capricorn Crude: War of The Ewing’s

TNT Dallas = Capricorn Crude, Return to the Ranch

With new titles and box set arrangements we’ll be in good shape. What’s left of Dallas (seasons 2-8 become Dallas seasons 1-7 so no Donna Reed switch up and the series ends with Bobby in the hospital) and Knots Landing are canon while the rest are all in Val’s imagination as part of the Capricorn Crude Series within the Dallas Universe.

While they’re at it box up Valene Ewing’s Falcon Crest Series within the Dallas Universe.

Wow she’d be one hell of a writer

The they could do a much nicer continuation starting with the death of JR as season 8: Dallas, 24 years after Bobby’s car accident in 2010 (the year JR planned to die as there was no estate tax), JR’s funeral and will set up the new series and then they forward to the present . . .

Great ideas! And Lilimae Clemments´ pseudo-biography "Nashville Junction" might be the source for Apollonia´s plot in "Falcon Crest" going a little wild and gothic...

She'll pop up again really soon as another married woman in another adultery related scene.
Wanda Frick was a true unsung hero of the show's early years, along with this blond mustachioed guy, who seems to pop up left and right in early episodes if you watch carefully... (I think it's the same guy)

Wow! I never noticed that before. Must have been an extra that was reused over and over. Might actually have been someone from the production team that was just thrown in whenever they needed an extra.

Season 2
upload_2019-1-25_18-24-52.png

Bobby and Pam visit Las Vegas where they meet lots of people wearing seventies fashion.
upload_2019-1-25_18-27-19.png
I just don't know where to look first because I don't want to miss any of the details.

I remember Valene and Gary having fun discussing who was going to play them, but apparently Valene has decided to play herself.
Lucy visits her mother in the Hot Biscuit, together with an improved Jimmy Mohanan.
upload_2019-1-25_18-37-59.png

I had forgotten what a charming man Gary #1 was - but was he not good enough for Knots Landing or was there another reason?
upload_2019-1-25_18-41-7.png

The biggest change is Sue Ellen, she's become more vocal and likes to tease her poor excuse for a husband.
But she also tries to undermine Bobby, and now she and JR are facing another problem with the return of Miss Ellie's favourite, and his ex-wife.

Personally, I think the ranch has never looked more hostile.

Is Bobby trying to avoid bumping his head on the landing?
upload_2019-1-29_3-9-20.png

I wasn't 100% sure but another sequence confirmed my suspicion.
upload_2019-1-29_3-10-40.png

Digger shows up, drunk of course, and he wants to sell Pamela to Jock. It's all very humiliating.
upload_2019-1-29_3-13-25.png
I think he should come back in every episode, just to p*ss off Jock and trample over Miss Ellie's flowerbeds.

JR persuades Gary to work on a Ewing Oil subsidiary, and I expected it to be a set-up that would make Gary look totally incompetent.
upload_2019-1-29_3-23-18.png
But it only takes a glass of milk to scare Gary away. It's all falling apart right there and then.

I didn't know he and Valene had been away that long, all those years they haven't seen Lucy or the family at all.
And now he's leaving again, and he doesn't even care what happens to Valene.
upload_2019-1-29_3-39-22.png
Is he really that weak, or is he using his weakness as an excuse? Maybe he sensed that there's an Abby Fairgate waiting for him. Who knows?

Great review. Yes it seems like the landing was a bit of a problem for someone of Patrick's height. My guess is it's filmed at the actual location indoors as later on when they filmed at the studio the landing was mysteriously higher up and then it disappeared all together! :lmao:

I love how the character of Valene was already so easily recognized here. Also how the Val-Gary story is foreshadowed here even if it's the wrong Gary.

More trouble in paradise for Mr and Mrs Adorable.
This time it's Bobby's former, well, very former girlfriend ("we were just kids").
Ex-lovers, ex-spouses and ex-fiancées is an awkward subject, therefore the Ewings bite their tongues. A little too late since the subject "Jenna" had already been brought up.
Yes, Jenna's introduction is shrouded in mystery, but Pam doesn't seem to be very impressed. At least, not yet.

Andrew Laird's wife wants him to choose between his career and his lady friend.
He asks JR to keep her away from him, apparently it's not possible to simply end the relationship and avoid her.
But of course the only reason for this soap-y and convoluted solution is to give JR the opportunity to reunite Jenna with her ex-fiancé: his brother.

"Do you want some coffee Paaaaaaaaam?"

Yellow furniture with grass-of-home green cushions, how daring!

And then I dozed off for a few minutes because I watched it right after dinner. Just two slices of bread and a kiwi, but still.
That's why I only made 4 screen shots.

Bobby is behaving like one of those inconsiderate soap men who think they are doing nothing wrong, and dismisses Pam's reaction as irrational.
But there's also a child involved, so Pam has good reasons to be worried.
The episode ends with a showdown between the brunette and the blondette, and Jenna admits that Bobby isn't Charlie's father.
upload_2019-2-3_23-12-18.png
The fact that this all happens in front of the object of desire (Bobby) creates a shameless, almost raunchy tension.

But I like this unpredictable and slightly unethical Jenna Wade.

And she's just likeable enough. There's something about her that reminds me of Diana Fairgate.
