And this is exactly why I like when they film on location. Texas history that I would not expect a writer or producer to realize. The pool is so far away! People never would have been falling into the pool had they stayed in this house. No one would have wanted to walk that far.
Why is the pool so far away? I'm glad you asked.
Imagine the Box Ranch. The main house (the mansion) is built and a family moves in. As the ranch prospers, a circle driveway is installed to make it easier to access the stalls.
Good things happen, and a large, detached garage is built.
The ranch grows, and a house is built for the ranch foreman. (Think Ray Krebbs).
Times are good, as evidenced by the tennis court being built.
And finally, there is enough money and enough desire that a swimming pool is constructed. Which is fine, but because of all the previous construction, the only place to build the pool is way off in the corner of the property.
By shooting on location, these very accurate details are (accidentally) observed.
Thank you for posting those pics-- they tell a story by themselves.
