We can only hope Trump tones down his policies and serves only one term. The damage he could do in four years is frightening. It is a wake up call for Europe and politicians in general to try and reach out to the ordinary person.

I think in the UK although we are leaving Europe we should still lean towards the likes of France and Germany, our future is there rather than with the US. I can see China overtaking the states as the biggest economic power.

Stick with us a little longer, the U.K. is a great ally. Unlike our useless current President, our President-elect will show appreciation to our allies.

Tomorrow does naturally start the "rubbing it in" phase that you see coming.. So I doubt things will change quickly.. In my mind's eye I can see a few, salavating.. They can't wait to taunt ..validating themselves..

Justice and sanity did prevail. Our country didn't bow down to Hillbilly's sense of entitlement to the presidency, and Clinton Inc..'s reign of government corruption is over.

This is an exciting day for our country. The government heard our disenfranchised voices, and the Liberty Bell is ringing for the first time in 8 long years. We're going to be just fine.

However, your assertion that Hillary is the most qualified candidate of all time is still debatable. Not because of her years in the political arena, but because of her policy record and judgement. I say this not as an advocate of Trump, but as someone who saw both candidates objectively. Trump is crude, petulant, and reckless, while Hillary often sold out her ideals for political expediency and was dismissive of millennials. You could look at that and say "Well Trump is clearly worse," but I still see a Democratic candidate that was once against gay marriage, in favor of the wars, in favor of TPP, is bought off by Wall Street, etc. Moving to the left was a result of both changing political opinions in the country, as well as trying to woo progressive Sanders supporters. However, that proves her positions could have changed again just as quickly given the right circumstances.

Let's bottom-line it: which of the two would you rather have seen in White House?

Even though Sanders was polling higher against Trump than Hillary was during the primaries? I'm not saying it's a certainty he would have won, but I do think his chances would have been better.

In any case, we'll never know. As of now, I've given up trying to understand why people do the things they do. It's obvious that logic and sanity no longer apply.

And no offense, but you calling me delusional is funny in the wake of Trump's victory.

Probably Hillary because she wouldn't try to overturn the progress we've made in health care and same sex marriage.

However, I think people were tired of career politicians plagued by scandal and failed policies. The Democratic Platform contained several policies that Hillary was previously against, and only because Sanders pushed her to the left. The DNC proved it wasn't above conspiring behind the scenes to help Hillary because they naturally wanted to keep the establishment in power. People who voted for Trump voted against the establishment.

It wasn't what I expected, but it wasn't a total blindside either. There were times when Trump was polling ahead of Clinton, so I figured it was going to be a close race.

A lot of progressive commentators were saying it as early as the primaries.

Also, Michael Moore recently predicted it as well. He said Trump knew how to appeal to people who were afraid of losing their jobs, and felt screwed over by Reaganomics and Democrats selling out to Wall Street. He also said the fact that Trump is hated by Wall Street and career politicians was another feather in his cap. Like me, Moore also cited Hillary's policy record and disconnect with millennials as reasons why Hillary was in trouble. He said many Bernie supporters would likely vote for Hillary in a reluctant way, but wouldn't be inspired enough to encourage other people to vote for her the way they did with Obama. He also said that some Bernie supporters would vote third party, as I did. Lastly, he predicted Hillary's pick of a bland moderate instead of a progressive VP wouldn't help her either. In the end, it turns out he was right.

I don't agree with the result, but I just wanted to say that as someone who loves America and has been to visit many times, I wish America and the people everything that she and her people wish for themselves. I hope that Trump will do a good job on behalf of America (and the world as it affects us too!) and that his presidency will mean good things for everyone.

Yes. The piggy is a ticking bomb and the universe has its ways of correcting course and bringing bizarre things to an early or abrupt ending. But one must hope that doesn't blast the country off to hell.

What kind of damage are you referring to?

Well I am sincerely hoping he will be reigned in and surrounded by many good advisers. But the sort of thing I am thinking of is not so much what he does in America itself ( i know it may sound selfish, but as long as it doesn't effect me in the UK I am too bothered) but economic policies that may trigger another recession, look what happened in 2008 with your banks, you know the saying America gets the flu and we get a cold also. I suppose we have just got to sit tight and wait. I am trying to look on the bright side, what I am grateful for is that I do not live in the states. I did read on other forum that the Canadian website for migrating to Canada crashed with the amount of traffic coming from the states. But on a serious note I genuinely hope things do work out and America does go from strength to strength and the divided nation can be brought back together. I wish you all well.​
