Pamela walks into her office throwing down papers on her desk and shouting, "I want to take Ewing Oil from him and I want South Fork! That's the deal we made. You get CalcoHarwood, I get revenge."
Chris walking behind her says, "Well we're further from that goal then we were just a few days ago."
"And how the hell did he know about Jessica?"
"I have no clue. Someone in this office listening in on us."
Jared Wendell walks in next. "The question is, what's she still doing with him? It's pretty obvious she's the one that told John Ross what you two were up to."
"He's sitting on control of two thirds of this company!" Pamela stares down Christopher. "You get your mother's shares, he gets the votes. And Katherine's! So tell me, how do we put him in check?" She looks back and forth at the two of them, searching for an answer.
John Ross and Jack walk out of the back of a home in the tropics on a soft sandy beach. The young boy runs down to where the warm water gathers around his feet. Sue Ellen, Bo and Jessica follow next. Bo picks up Jack and heads into the ocean like he's carrying a football. Jack laughs as he takes a face full of salt water. Jessica runs behind them.
Sue Ellen says to John Ross, "Gary told he was really impressed by Bo."
"Good. Bo's going to be taking over Ewing Oil sooner than later. We're gonna be partners, but he's gonna run the company on his own. He needs to know how to seal deals. So that's good to hear. Uncle Gary's not your straight forward, sound the bottom line kinda guy."
"And is Rebecca staying, in Dallas I mean?"
"Yes. I believe so. I couldn't get her to take a break from the bank and her startup company to come with us, but I believe she's staying on at South Fork."
"I take it you've given up on Pamela moving back."
"Does it matter?"
"Well she's not gonna want to live with your brother and sister."
"I mean does it matter what I want?"
"Maybe if . . ."
"If what? Pamela hasn't ever given a damn about me. That little boy, that's all I've got. You always cared more about fighting my father than about me and my father cared about fighting the world. The only other two people that cared about me are gone. Grandma and grandpa. But that boy will know I love him and that's it. I'm done with Pamela. And I'm done being up set over the fact that no one gives a damn about me."
"That's not true John Ross."
"Really? Where's Dusty? Where's Peter? Where is my father?"
"I'm here."
"Yes you're here. Listen, I don't want to argue with you, certainly not for the whole week were in Florida. OK so you're here. But let's not talk about Pamela." John Ross walks into the water to join his brother and son.
The three boys race on jet skis while Sue Ellen sits with JR at a table watching. She asks, "What's so imperative that you can't stay here with your family?"
"I'm here now darlin', ain't that enough?"
"No it isn't. It's never been enough. You ran in and out when Miss Ellie died."
"And I took care of her when she needed me."
"But what about the rest of the time? You merged West Star into CalcoHarwood and lost control and you couldn't forgive her."
"She sided with Chris against me. Then she left those votes to a foundation controlled by you, Gary and Bobby. In other words she still sided against me."
"She tried to get you to join the board of the foundation instead of me."
"No thank you. You're better at givin' away money than I am. It wouldn't have mattered anyway. No matter what Chris does, Bobby won't vote against him. I was for sure after that toxic mess down in Ecuador, but they fought and Bobby stills backin' that kid. And Gary just goes along with Bobby. He's turned out to be nothing but misery for Bobby. Shame, wouldn't have thought it, but that boy's eaten up inside."
"By what? Sue Ellen asks.
"Pam abandoning him. A rotten mother sure can do a lot of damage."
"Well a rotten father isn't much better."
"No I suppose not. Tell me Sue Ellen, the truth, after all that's happened, why did you marry me, the first time?"
"If you promise to tell me the truth why you married me."
"Because you were and are still the most beautiful woman in Texas, and I wanted everyone to know you belong to me."
Sue Ellen takes in what he says and then contemplates before saying, "I married you because you were rich and powerful."
"And the second time?"
"Because I loved you and wanted so much for you to love and protect me. And you?"
"Because I loved you and wanted for you to love me and I wanted to protect you. And I have, finally."
"What do you mean?"
"I've made this family safe."
"How so?"
"Just believe me Sue Ellen. Please."
"OK. I believe you."
JR takes her hand, and I still love you."
"Don't start JR."
"I'm not starting. I just have one regret in this world. I never felt like you loved me, and I wish I'd felt that. Just once. But I'm sure you could say the same thing about me."
"No I . . . I felt it. Once. Before we got married the second time. For a short while. And I do miss that feeling."
"You don't ever have to darlin', I've always loved you. Never anyone but you. And I hated you for it. No one could hurt ole JR but you. Even when momma died. Nothing ever hurt more than not being able to hold you."
John Ross steps up from a dingy onto a platform off the back of a mega yacht.
Up on the desk of the yacht with a view of his island home he meets with a man about his age who says, "We've taken care of everything."
Walking in a massive private garden, stopping and smelling the flowers, the old man John Ross had spoken to in the barn sometime at South Fork, the one who casually mentioned killing Rebecca is shot.
Back on the yacht John Ross sits down for lunch with the man who continues, "The Barnes are safe and my associates are very supportive of the use of the Wentworth technology now, to push America even further ahead in oil production. We plan on making inroads into Venezuela."
In Venezuela a man walks into his house and from a drone a missile pierces the building. It explodes it into millions of tiny bits.
On the Yacht the man says, "And the man behind the murder of your grandfather has been taken care of as well."
John Ross says, "It's been a long time coming. He went to Venezuela for the US government and they did nothing. Then with Rebecca Wentworth, again nothing. These people minipulate and use and discard people like they're no big deal."
"It's been difficult raining in global interests bent on keeping the price of oil high. Many of those people have been right around you in Texas. Including your father. But it's not in America's best interests to see high oil prices. We're glad though that your father finally joined us and we look forward to handing him control of CalcoHarwood's board of directors."
"I don't care about that, but I suppose I should thank you for taking care of these issues for me."
"Of course. Thanks to your father you're part of the family now. We're all glad to see you join us. And your father has assured us we can count on you as well."
"As long as I can count on you."
"You can. You're all set for the Paralateral Delegation meeting? You'll be attending with your father?"
"Yes."
"Good. We've got a lot to discuss."
"That's what I'm told."
"Russia in particular. Your father has very reliable connections there."
The sun rises over the water and Sue Ellen and JR eat breakfast with their grandson out on the patio when Bo walks out to join them. "Hello son. Sleep well?"
"Like a baby, dad."
Sue Ellen asks, "Where's Jessica?"
"She's still sleeping."
"I've got to talk to you about takin' up with that granddaughter of Jordan Lee's," JR says.
"Don't start dad."
"I'm just sayin' son, the apple don't fall from the tree."
"Oh JR." Sue Ellen rolls her eyes.
John Ross walks out with Rebecca saying, "Look who's joined us."
"Well sweetheart," JR stands to greet his daughter, to hug and kiss her cheek. "I've miss you. You sit here, right next to daddy. So what's this I hear your broke off thinkgs with Henri Dupree to move to Dallas? I never did like that young man. About all he's got goin' for him is that title. How a smart girl like you could even hold a conversation with a boy like that was beyond me."
"He was pretty cute to look at though."
"Well if you go for that type. Now your brothers here, they'll find you a good Texas boy. What about Roger Templeton's boy? Roger use to go with your cousin Lucy way back when. Shame that didn't work out."
Bo leans over to his sister and says, "At least it's not just me."
"Sue Ellen honey, you got to help me fix these children up proper."
"JR let 'em find their own way."
"A little nudge never hurt."
Pamela sits looking out her office window at the skyline of Dallas when Chris walks in. "I'm getter tired of waiting on that Wentworth drilling technology. Now I hear Rebecca's got Wentworth Industries. I suppose that means she's got what I want."
Without turning to look at him Pamela says, "No. She's just got the name. From what I hear she's using it to set up a conglomerate along with running SSC's American operations. A bank you rely very heavily on."
"I can find other banks to work with. What I want from you is that technology and you'd better get it."
Turning around in her chair Pamela says, "Or what? You don't even control your own shares in this company anymore. So don't come in here demand a damn thing. Bobby might back you but JR Ewing doesn't. And if I don't either, you're of CalcoHarwood."
"You owe me. I helped you get control of this company while your father was quickly watching it disintegrate."
Standing up Pamela tells him, "I don't owe you or anyone anything. You helped turn this company over to me just as I helped turn CalcoHarwood over to you. We're even. What have you put into play to me Ewing Oil?"
"So now they Ewing's have us at each other's throat."
"No that's you coming in here making demands."
"We do share this company, cousin."
"Not any more. Rebecca sold me her shares. So I own a third, and my son owns a third." Pamela sits back down. "How about I buy you out?"
Chris sits down, "You sure you can handle all this debt?"
"Let's not start worrying about each other."
"I'm not worried about you, if you can't handle it and loose control of the company, that puts all those CalcoHarwood shares up for grabs. That's what I'm worried about. I'm happy to go our separate ways, cousin."
"Good. For a second I thought you were getting sentimental on me. Did you hear, SSC is slowly buying a chunk of CalcoHarwood."
"Of course. I'm not surprised. I got notice that they expect a board seat. I'm guessing they're talking about Rebecca."
"You think our grandmother would be proud, her three grandchildren on the board of one of the supermajors?"
"I don't know or really care. I'd like to get JR off the board and now he wants Bo in his place."
"You don't have much choice."
"Sue Ellen has put Arnold Leland up to represent the foundation."
"I thought he worked with John Ross."
"Does. But I guess he's on the foundations financial advisory board too, which I'm told now includes Rebecca."
"She's becoming a regular little Ewing, isn't she?"
At South Fork John Ross leans on the fence watching Jack and his teammates practicing polo under the watchful eye of their coach.
Pamela comes up and leans on the fence with John Ross. "He's pretty good, ha?"
"Seems to be." John Ross doesn't look at her.
"I wanted to ask you about the votes you have in Barnes Holdings."
"Oh so you didn't come to watch your son."
"Don't. Just because polo doesn't interest me doesn't mean I don't love my son."
"What is it you want?"
"I bought out both Rebecca and Chris. Barnes Holdings belongs to just me and Jack now. I want those votes."
"You've got Jack's votes."
"You know what I mean."
"And what do I get?"
"My undying gratitude."
He looks at her, stares her down. "Really. I can do without that."
That's when Jack rides up and says, "Did you see me mommy? Did you see me score?"
"Yes precious. Mommy's very proud of you. Score another one for me."
"They're all for you mommy," Jack says and rides back to the team.
"That boy adores you."
"I haven't been that awful of a mother."
"I'll give you the votes, but I want you to move back into South Fork."
"What?"
"I don't mean we have to share a room or anything. But I want you here more often, dinners and all, so if you move back in I'll give you the votes."
"Move in with your mother, brother and this new sister of yours?"
"Yes."
"No."
"Than the cottage out back. I doubt Uncle Bobby will be back anytime soon."
"What ever you heard about me and Jared Wendell isn't true."
"Isn't it?"
"No it isn't. You and Amy Anderson?"
"She's just a friend."
A truck pulls up behind South Fork and movers begin to empty it into the cottage. A contractor measures out an addition onto the structure and talks to his team.
John Ross walks up the stairs of a barn and into a large rec room, games, a bar, a massive fireplace. He watches Bo and Ruby playing pool and slaps down a quarter before sitting in a big chair, looking at a giant projection screen of a Cowboys replay game.
Pamela talks to the contractors, "A sun room but I need to control the sun so it doesn't get too hot. And a door there and there from the living room and the bedroom."
Sue Ellen watches from the pool with Rebecca and says, "I can't imagine this is going to turn out well."
"She's got to go. She's caused him nothing but misery."
"I'd like to disagree with you. You know no one even knew they were seeing each other. He'd moved in here because Miss Ellie asked him to after Clayton died. Next thing we knew he was married to Pamela and she moved in. And then we found out she was having a baby. Miss Ellie was happy. John Ross was going to name him after Clayton, but changed his mind for Miss Ellie. He promised he'd name the second one after Clayton. Of course JR and Cliff had a thousand fits. Except when Jack was born. JR thought that boy was everything and thanked Pamela to no end. Showed her with jewelry."
"That's odd."
"Your father's odd. All John Ross and Pamela ever did was fight."
"Over what?"
"She just never seemed happy. And he was jealous of her running Cliff's company and then conspiring with Chris against JR to take control of CalcoHarwood. As difficult as school was, business just came easy for John Ross. John Ross never made friends easy, always seemed mostly alone, but those he did, they were for life. Sal, Arnie, Ruby. And Pamela. She meant everything to him. He never really had any girlfriends either. Not like Chris. But Pamela assumed the worst of him. Assumed he was cheating."
"He seems to like Amy Anderson."
"Yes they've seemed to form some sort of an esperanza."
Chris walks in from the bathroom in just a towel and Jessica sits up in bed. "So if Bo had the money now, he could buy as much as half of Ewing Oil?"
"I guess so. He said John Ross wants them to be fifty fifty partners in the company."
"So maybe I need to meet with Bo. I can come up with the money."
"He's going in with Rebecca too."
"What do you mean?"
"Her company, Wentworth Industries. John Ross is going in with her fifty fifty. Some sort of refinery business they're buying. They've got some technology for improving the refinery process I heard them talking about."
"What the hell. How's he always stumble across this shit. I've never meet some one half as lucky as him."
"He's kinda got the Midas touch doesn't he?"
"Yeah well that's gonna end," Chris says walking back into the bathroom.
