I was hoping for a happy ending but they seem intent on killing off Jaq. Such a shame especially as it would rule her out of any future reunion episodes. It's sad enough that the series is ending so why add to the misery by killing on be of the most interesting characters?

I have a feeling the final episode will be past cast members gathering to say goodbye to Jac Naylor before she dies. I hope I'm wrong because a happy ending would be so much better.

Well, Rosie Marcel did say in interviews months ago that she would never get to play Jac again. Which was an interesting comment, as characters from the show, including hers, had turned up on Casualty, ever since Nick Jordan popped downstairs in 1998 to the Casualty ED, and in the same episode, Charlie Fairhead clashed with Julie Fitzjohn up in the Holby City wards. Nick and Julie appeared again weeks later at Christmas, prior to the Casualty episode that began a storyline that then continued in the first episode of Holby City.

And it was announced that there would be heartbreak in the final episode of Holby City, plus it was said that the past cameos were to be worked in in ways that you wouldn’t expect. Still, it was nice to see Ric Griffin for a few seconds. And Luke Roberts honouring his promise of returning as Joseph for Jac’s last episode.


Although I would have preferred a happier outcome too.

I'm still not happy they killed off Jac. Yes, it was the final show but it means she can't appear in Casualty nor in any reunion shows in future. Ending with a tribute to the NHS was a nice touch especially as I'm convinced the reason why the axed the show was because it was highlighting the underfunding in the NHS and the stressful conditions that staff are having to work in.

I can't believe that was the reason, although they did mention the Brexit lies in the speech at the end.

I didn't think they would kill her off and the actress was really unhappy about it from comments I read on Twitter from interviews she did.

I think over the next few years we will see more long running shows coming to an end.

It's a shame Connie didn't make an appearance, I remember when she handed over the baton to Jac. I don't think I watched it much after that.

Rosie Marcel has said that she would have played Jac Naylor for as long as she could.

Amanda Mealing did approach the production team about appearing towards the end of Holby City but then she stated it wasn’t happening. After Connie replaced Nick Jordan in the ED, she encountered Jac again a few times on both Holby City and in episodes of series 30 and 31 of Casualty.
Jac appeared in Casualty’s 30th anniversary special and performed surgery on Connie’s daughter, Grace, in a storyline that crossed from Casualty to Holby City and back to Casualty and featured more crossovers by Holby City characters.
And Connie and Jac clashed in the major crossover to mark 20 years of Holby City, prior to which on Holby City, Jac was seen throwing darts into a picture of Connie.

Still, Alex Walkinshaw’s character gets to mourn the death of Rosie Marcel’s character. Just like previously when they were both in The Bill and her character ended up dead.
