OMG, what a way to celebrate your 24th anniversary. That cake should have said more than "Congratulations". I'd be embarrassed too. :embarrassed:
You know, that’s the part I don’t understand. You have one person retiring and one having an anniversary so can’t you put the stupid name on the cake? It wouldn’t hurt. I’ve explained this to my boss but to be honest I can’t understand her response cause she’s still laughing.

Has anyone mentioned this event since it happened?
Luckily all has died down. I’m off this week so it gives me time to recover and live it down. But every once in awhile I’ll get a text from someone saying they still can’t believe it and that it made their day.

BTW, do you go by DFF at work? If so that's dedication that I respect. :floor:
This made me laugh! I don’t go by DFF at work but I wish I could. I’d love to use it as an alter ego. Of course, 90% of the people I work with probably never heard of Dallas I’m assuming.

So, DFF :D have you not reached the goal of this thread yet? .. Lol!

I've been useless on here recently and have some making up to do. Did we set a goal of 5,000 by July 15?

This certainly sounds like a lot of work but I’m sure it will all turn out great. You’re making me feel guilty now cause I have a lot to do outside right now and I’ve been putting it all off due to so many different (and lame) excuses; it’s too hot, I’m tired from work, bla, bla, bla. I’ve used them all lately.
The garden is coming along, very slooooowly. I started off all enthusiastic and now I'm sort of plodding along. Mr L isn't much of a gardener it doesn't interest him much, but thankfully he will do all the heavy stuff for me.

I honestly don't know how you cope with outside gardens/plants in your part of the world DFF? when the temperatures go up here I down tools and find some shade.

I gotta say I don’t get much rudeness. And even when I do I can deal with that. That’s what humor and sarcasm are for. I do get injuries though
I think that's a great gift to be able cope with rude people in that way, I too can tend to be sarcastic in replies, but unlike you I'm not quick witted enough to make is humorous.

Someone showed me a text I sent them recently and she said that thanks to me she now plays a new game with her family called “Count the So’s in DFF’s texts.” I said it can’t be that bad, can it? I didn’t believe her so I counted them myself and I gotta say it was pretty bad!
 ... the funny thing I've found myself saying "so" recently, its infectious!

Good to catch up with you my friend :gotcha: .. I won't leave it so long in the future.

I did last Thursday, 19 May. All three, Streetie, Princess and Duchess were pruned. They needed it. I hate cutting my plants but I know it's for their own good.
How are they, have they had a new lease of life since being pruned?

Many people don't do the research needed to care for orchids. There are some basic knowledge needed to understand their care or else one can kill their plant. I've run into this when talking to others who have had orchids. Some think they bloom all the time. I have a few that have never rebloomed, mostly due to recovery from a trama.
You've a mind of knowledge about these plants Michelle :) I'm glad to hear you pass on tips to other people.

Speaking of that my Sunburst, orchid #4, has rebloomed after two years of recovery.

sunburst052422.jpg

She a mini as compared to the blooms of Tippie to the left.
Oh my goodness, she is a little goddess! :bowing:bowing:bowing shes the very definition of Sunburst, what gorgeous blooms she has, wow! it was well worth waiting two years for.

Tippie is also very unusual and beautiful, the centre of her blooms look like gems. And she did made me laugh, because she looks like shes photo-bombing

You must be hard at work getting you garden together for Summer. Is everything in place?
Its a long project  . The thing is, even when the garden is absolutely perfect their is always something that needs doing, I guess that's why I love it out there in the soil .... with the worms and snails.

BTW, have you revisited the Doggie Cafe from a few years ago?
Yes. I've been back a couple of times and I'm pleased to say the place is busier than ever. A friend of mine who is a wheelchair user had a birthday a couple of weeks ago and we ordered a ....'takeaway afternoon tea' ..... to celebrate, they don't deliver, but we don't live far so I easily picked it up. Anyway, they'd put each persons (their were 4 of us) afternoon tea in separate bags and in each bag was also a small bouquet of flowers, they looked wonderful, I thought this was a nice extra touch.

I have yet to name all that I have rescued in the past three months. There is Moxy and Roxy, Marbles and Muffin and Polara and Omni, plus three others. Moxy is having some issues due to the moss she was in so I'm trying to save her. All were given to be by the lady at the grocery store as no one would buy them for Easter or Mother's Day.
Oh my, these are lucky Orchids to have found you, I hope Moxy pulls through. I like all the names too, how do you think of them?

I wish you lived closer as I would have given you as many orchids as you could handle.
I'd love that :)

. I don't know if I flew to England if I could bring plants with me.
You'd have to charter your own plane and fill the seats with Orchids instead of people :D

I had a sad nature story today while I was taking a morning walk in my town. I came across a Catbird lying on the street sidewalk. At first I thought it was dead but it's eyes opened when I approached.

catbird052422.jpg

It may have been hit by a car as it moved when I got close but I didn't want to startle it, for it to jump into the road. I really couldn't do much as the local humane societies don't care for wild animals. I am hoping it just was stunned and could return to nature. I surely don't have the means to care for an injured bird. It was sad to see but with so much Spring activities with the birds I'm not surprised. If this Catbird was caring for it's young I would be ever more sad. Nature can be cruel.
Aww its such a cute little thing, I don't think you or anyone could've done anything for it Michelle, sometimes when us humans try to help we can make it worse for birds. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it regained its strength and flew away to safety. I agree with you that it is sad when we come across things like this, we've had birds fly into our conservatory window with a loud crash, I hate it when that happens, but usually (not always) the birds do flutter away again.

I can only recommend visiting Amsterdam. The flower market is something to behold, canal tours around the city I found enlightening and there are some really nice places to eat and chilled bars to quench your thirst and people watch
I really want to go , it sounds glorious. I like how you mentioned 'people watch' its fascinating to just sit and watch everyone coming and going.

*Clears throat, big breath, final look towards the heavens*..... Meet me under the Lightening Tree and I'll tell you about the red light district and the coffee shops and adventures a humble sinner (now reformed) found there.

Finally, the passage of time doesn't diminish the ghastly reality she faced at a tender age, she took it upon herself to document the daily ebb and flow of life whilst in their hiding place, Anne Frank wouldn't live to see her diary published and become more that she'd imagine. I made a point of visiting the museum that now sits where her hiding place was. Reason being that I thought it important to acknowledge Anne Frank, to let her know that I heard what she was saying.

Sobering but worth visiting The Anne Frank Museum.
That sounds really interesting and I would imagine it could also be emotional. She left us a diary which told the world of the atrocities which happened to ordinary everyday people like she was ... although it turns out she really was remarkable.

So DFF learned a valuable lesson today on his 24th anniversary at work. Usually when they announce my anniversary I will hide, refuse to say a few words to the gang, my shyness in large groups taking over. But this year, as I’m driving in to work this morning, I promised myself that I would handle things differently for once. Instead of shying away from the attention, I’m going to embrace it.

So DFF marched right into that station and I walked into the middle of the warehouse, surprised to see a cake with the word “Congratulations “ on it. I was touched, but a cake seemed odd to me cause it’s only a 24th anniversary, not 25. But who cares? And DFF noticed everyone standing around waiting so I walked right up to the front and stood next to my boss. I hugged her and thanked her and asked if I can say a few words but she looked at me very puzzled for some reason.

But that didn’t stop me from thanking the entire station. I told them what the cake meant to me and I talked about how I didn’t even want the job 24 years ago but I took it because my mother made me and now all these years later I was so glad I listened to her. But oddly, I didn’t hear any applause when I was done speaking. Actually, I didn’t hear anything. It was dead silence. I looked at my boss and she looked at me and goes “Oh DFF! You better come over here.” So I go over to her and she whispers in my ear that the cake is actually not for me. I said can you please say that again? She tells me that the cake is for someone else who’s retiring today after 37 years with the company and that’s why everyone is standing here. They’re all waiting for him to arrive. I whispered back that I understood but I feel a little awkward now and I don’t know what to do because this has just become the most embarrassing moment of DFF’s career. But she’s no help at all because I can tell she’s about to lose it and so I did the only thing I could. I put my head down and covered my face and walked to my truck. And I locked the doors and never came out. I scanned my packages, got in that seat and drove off well over the posted speed limit.
This is a fine example of why you're so flipping likable DFF :D ... I don't mean the above mix-up, its the fact that you're so open and honest and not afraid of laughing at yourself.

I felt so proud of you when you said you wasn't going to shy away from the attention. Oh flip, why-o-why did someone have to be retiring on your anniversary?

I do hope your colleagues still made a fuss of you on your remarkable achievement of 24 years?

Useless is something you could never be Lashes no matter how hard you tried my friend. Yes, I think we set a goal of 5,000 by July 15.

The garden is coming along, very slooooowly. I started off all enthusiastic and now I'm sort of plodding along. Mr L isn't much of a gardener it doesn't interest him much, but thankfully he will do all the heavy stuff for me.
I’m glad it’s coming along! I know it’s a lot of work. Maybe plodding along slowly is better sometimes. I don’t know how hot it is over there right now but with the way it’s boiling over here anything I do outside takes awhile now.

honestly don't know how you cope with outside gardens/plants in your part of the world DFF? when the temperatures go up here I down tools and find some shade
I know that most people down here with outside gardens are not exactly chippy this time of year. I go to one house where they’re always outside working and a fight always breaks out without fail. Last time they were arguing as I’m walking up the driveway and the wife asked me what’s in the box. I said I’m hoping divorce papers because I’m so tired of hearing the both of you. So I guess the heat makes everyone a little agitated sometimes, including me. Luckily they laughed.

I think that's a great gift to be able cope with rude people in that way, I too can tend to be sarcastic in replies, but unlike you I'm not quick witted enough to make is humorous
I do get a lot of practice with dealing with rudeness unfortunately. But sometimes I have to tell you that the humor backfires. You’ll know right away when that happens, trust me.

 ... the funny thing I've found myself saying "so" recently, its infectious!
Oh good! I finally started a trend I see. Who knew that overuse of the word “so” would be my contribution to society?

Good to catch up with you my friend :gotcha: .. I won't leave it so long in the future

Thank you for saying that Lashes! Well, I really had no choice but to laugh at myself that day.

I felt so proud of you when you said you wasn't going to shy away from the attention
Thank you but maybe that was where I went wrong this year LOL

Oh flip, why-o-why did someone have to be retiring on your anniversary?
I forgot all about him to be honest. I had heard he was retiring that day but I guess I didn’t connect the dots until it was too late. Next time I’ll just stand there and wait to be called. My boss suggested that actually and I think I have to agree with her.

I do hope your colleagues still made a fuss of you on your remarkable achievement of 24 years?
To tell you the truth, I don’t know cause I haven’t been back to work since. I was off this week and after that happened I kind of went into hiding. I think they’re announcing my anniversary when I get back Monday. This should be interesting!

I hadn't really considered the affect constant heat must have on moods. I can cope with high temps when we are away on holiday/vacation relaxing, but on the rare times I have to work in the heat it exhausts me, its so draining.

I bet you do. Unfortunately anyone who works with the public is open to abuse, I hate to think of people being rude to you, although I do know you have a lot of friendly customers too. Yes I do but for the most part everyone is very nice. The rudeness usually comes when their delivery is late or something like that but I understand where they’re coming from.

Is your rain really heavy? its just with your extreme heat I wondered if your rain was like the tropics?
The rain here is very peculiar. You can’t predict it. There won’t be a cloud in the sky for miles and then all of a sudden it will just start pouring out of nowhere. Sometimes it will rain for 5 minutes and stop and sometimes it’s all day long. Two weeks ago we had rain for the entire week and this week SO far not a drop.

We are suddenly having a mini heatwave. Everyone I've spoken to today has been complaining about the heat, I guess its true what people say about the Brits ... we are forever talking about the weather
How hot has it been? I sure hope it’s not as bad as it is here right now. We’re up in the low to mid 90s this week. But the problem here is the humidity. It’s pretty bad. See? The Brits aren’t the only ones forever talking about weather!

Its thoughtful of you to see it from their viewpoint, especially when you're not to blame if a parcel is late
We get a lot of practice with late parcels LOL!! I will often prepare my speech for the next house as I’m driving if I notice there’s a late one coming up next.

I was talking to one of my friends about something the other day and I found myself coming out with .."at the end of the day" .. Lol! that sentence drives me nuts when others say it. I picked it up from another friend of ours who uses it all the time.
Yes, I know you’re not a big fan of that one. I’m not crazy about it either to be honest. I can’t say I hear it being used much though. Maybe that’s for the best.

Nooooooo! How dare they not make a big fuss of you DFF
Well, I think I’m okay with it LOL!! I mean, I already gave my speech at the wrong meeting anyway so how can I ever top that? I do notice the story has become quite exaggerated now as these things always do. Let’s see, now I hear I actually cut the cake and took a piece. That didn’t happen. (Well, it almost did). Then I heard I ran away, which I didn’t. I would say I walked away rather briskly but I definitely didn’t run.

words have far more meaning than cake.
I agree in this case but there are times I may not always agree with that Lashes LOL

I must say, the LL garden is a very dangerous place for snails and some birds :giggle:
Yes, I have noticed this over the months. I guess my thing is killing iguanas. I feel so bad but they’re all over the place down here and they move very quickly so they can appear out of nowhere and unfortunately I can’t always avoid them. I’ve taken out several with my work vehicle and my personal car as well so you’re not alone in your never ending assault on the wildlife Lashes.

That is an adorable little girl you got to help you with the math Lashes but it looks like we might be here awhile the way she counts so I’ll help her out.

“At the end of the day” we are now 79 posts away from the magical 5000 halfway point.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Thursday evening as DFF gets ready to pass out early.

I like interesting words, syntax and idioms.

I find them everywhere, including right here!
I’ve learned a lot of new words on this site thanks to you Biggie. Quite often I’ve had to google a big word you’ve used but I like that! You keep me on my toes.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far!! Enjoy your Saturday!!
