Dallas To Get Remastered In HD

They should have create those opening credits still on film back then, that at least those would look still fine. :(

With fresh shots of the city to match that drum beat.

It makes me want the new Blu-ray collection boxset so bad!
The opening credits for those last seasons won't look much different on the blurays, as it was stated here, that those are just upscaled with no AI involved.
These credits will sadly never really look much better than this. But at least the episodes will.

This title sequence is supposed to be 4K Blu-ray too.

Another con on YouTube, they shouldn't allow this sort of thing.

I've a good mind to complain. :(

That's really scam and should be reported. Just cause you render that crap in HD for an hour, sharpen it to hell and then filter it to death doesn't make it HD, let alone 4k!
And they really used a horrible filter setting there, all the faces look like oil paintings. Just another stupid channel to fool the people by generating clicks for crap.

With the three way split gone, the show lost it's whole identity. After Pams dream the second dumbest decision they made, followed very closely by Donna Reed.

I LOVED those beats. Loved them back then and still do.

The drumbeats would have been fine, even clever, had been used with all new shots of the city and its surrounding environs -- but by using old shots of the city, interspersed with the actors' head shots, it felt amateurish and desperate.

Because it was.

So blame producer Cliff Fenneman (who apparently designed them, but were AOK'd by Katzman).

The drumbeat thing could've worked, in order to make the theme of the latter seasons more dynamic and faster, but not the way they did it, which seemed designed incompetently to fool us absurdly.

I know they'd stopped filming on location in Texas for a month by 1989, but they couldn't hire somebody in a helicopter for half-a-day in Dallas to obtain new footage of the city to use in the opening theme (for Seasons 13 and 14 and beyond) instead of relying on the old footage simply re-arranged?

It felt pathetic. But even within the body of the show, Katzman had taken to repeating ad nauseum the same tired establishing shots of the city -- usually drabbest ones -- in the final seasons... Yes, yes, they always repeated establishing shots of the city and the ranch, but not in the this-show-is-now-dead way they did near the end.

What do you mean when you say they did it in that way ("this-show-is-now-dead")?

They focused more on the end credits for Seasons 10-13 by recreating them again from scratch for HD.

Thanks for the new photo's.

I can remember Larry's bloodshot right eye in this season.

I suppose this was unfortunately down to the bottles of champagne he would consume during the shooting of the show. Bless him.

The stuff dreams are made off...
Hello Garry, like many fans, I'm impatiently awaiting the release of the HD blu-ray box set that I hope to see released for the 45th anniversary, but I was wondering if you were going to offer us the possibility of seeing in photos and HD extracts what I consider to be the masterpiece of the saga namely Swan Song (with House divided of course)?? Also, do you know if anything is planned to celebrate this anniversary? Thank you for your feedback and have a nice weekend!!

The remastered version of these scenes doesn't look particularly different from the original from 1986. Maybe the colors are just more intense.

What do you think?

We won't really know until we get the new Blu-ray collection.

However there is more depth and resolution in the picture than from the original DVD image from what I can tell from watching this scene on YouTube.

It's just so exciting even though this scene on original transmission probably put a lot of people off from watching Dallas any more.

It certainly didn't put me off, I was only a teenager so didn't really care about the ramifications of annulling a whole season of the show, I was more delighted by Patrick Duffy's return. Even today it's still exciting even with knowing that ultimately this explanation for Bobby's return unfortunately ruined the show. :)

Just watch the original and remastered versions side by side and then you'll see how wrong you are. :hat:
Yes, actually by then Dallas looked worse than ever before, as that was the time they started editing on video, it was abysmal.
Old version:
