They didn't remaster the title sequence for seasons 11 onwards, even though many of the actors shots already exist in HD from previous seasons, and for the ones that didn't, they could have created new ones.True-- if the end titles were this shoddily treated, who knows how badly the title sequence has suffered, if any?
Concentrate only on the upper text lines of both pictures. Executive Producer and Associate Producer. Both these lines are not centered and positioned too far to the right side.We must be talking millimetres because I can't see the difference. The only issue I see is when Associate Producer: Cliff Fenneman is displayed the full width of Southfork isn't used in the restoration. For me however these are minor issues I can deal with. I'm interested in the real drama between the opening and closing credits. Gawd I wish Warner Bros would make an announcement about an upcoming Blu-Ray release.
So stupid, because the opening is the very first imprssion that you get
Hmm I looked at 1 or 2 episodes per season last night and the openings for 13 and 14 look remastered to me rather than just upscaled. The font used is entirely different so unless they upscaled the master version of the openings and then added the credits they definitely worked on these. Weirdly there is an episode still in SD on FreeVee among the season 13 and the difference is incredible. They didn't remaster the title sequence for seasons 11 onwards, even though many of the actors shots already exist in HD from previous seasons, and for the ones that didn't, they could have created new ones.
But instead they went the lazy way and just upscaled the old SD versions. And even those could have looked WAY better than they do, if they had put them through AI upscaling process, it would have taken them just 2 days longer for 4 title sequences on a mediocre PC. But even that was apparently too much for them. So stupid, because the opening is the very first imprssion that you get, if you look any of those last 4 season episodes - and that impression is just plain awful. And for a first impression there is no second chance. It just shows that they didn't care anymore, the further the restauration process went.
Why does remastering have to mean changing?remastered to me rather than just upscaled. The font used is entirely different
So true. I cannot think of anything present which has a great opening. Possibly the last great opening was The Big Bang Theory because the opening explains what exactly the show is about.True of any show, past or present
Well, naturally if you are remastering an opening sequence you put it together from scratch; or if you're lucky and the original one exists on film in good quality you might be able to use that. Credits are added after you've (re-)created the sequence and that's where you run into "problems" with fonts. The originally used fonts simply might not be available (a lot of fonts used in pre-computer times never made it into a digital format) or would need to be licensed at a prohibitive cost. Therefore you match the original font as close as possible. With seasons 1 - 12 there luckily is a near-identical font called Microgramma. Why does remastering have to mean changing?

What? Almost every HBO show has a great opening. Last example here:The only show with a great opening sequence these days is Doctor Who.
Well, I wouldn't call that remastering, I'd call it recreating at best, remaking at worst.Well, naturally if you are remastering an opening sequence you put it together from scratch; or if you're lucky and the original one exists on film in good quality you might be able to use that. Well you can't remaster a complete opening sequence. It is only available as seen on TV. If you want it to be in HD you need to remake it from scratch from the source material on film and that naturally means you are recreating it, including overlaying the credits. There is no other way I'm afraid unless you just upscale it but that wouldn't be true HD.Well, I wouldn't call that remastering, I'd call it recreating at best, remaking at worst.
This is correct if the original camera negative for the opening sequence exists. It's really just a matter of scanning that in a higher resolution (e.g.: 4K or 8K) and then adding the titles to the remastered footage. In the case of Seasons 10-14 the show was shot on film but edited on video tape. I believe the problem with those seasons is that once the filmed footage was edited on video tape it was either scrapped or not properly archived.Well you can't remaster a complete opening sequence. Season 14 was edited on the old syle film process so a physical 35mm print of that season already existed in the archive. However the opening credits were edited on a video master, just like Seasons 10-13.In the case of Seasons 10-14 the show was shot on film but edited on video tape.
Patrick’s shirtless shot remained during that same period (except of course, the season when he was gone). They even brought back his old shots when he returned. I guess the producers felt those two shots were iconic. For some reason Victoria's opening credit sequence never changed. That center shot of her walking towards the camera wearing jeans and a plaid shirt remained the same from seasons 3-10, only the left and right images changed, I wonder why? Hers was the only one.

Then why call it that? It's misleading.Well you can't remaster a complete opening sequence.
I can think of a couple of reasons. For some reason Victoria's opening credit sequence never changed. That center shot of her walking towards the camera wearing jeans and a plaid shirt remained the same from seasons 3-10, only the left and right images changed, I wonder why? Hers was the only one.
